To ask what you dreamed would be fabulous but is actually maybe a bit shit

I think this about lots of things to do with celebrity lives, when I was younger I thought it all would amazing now not so sure.

A particular one I have is that I always longed for a villa on the Italian lakes. We went to a hotel there one year for 5 days ( in the same village as George Clooney ) It pissed down for 3 days. Everything was dark and damp and that combined with the endless queuing for flights and the thought of maintaining a property in another country sort of did for the dream. Not achievable without a lottery win anyway but now I don't even want it.

Anyone else got stuff like this or that they actually got and then thought 'meh'. I seem to have it about more and more things as I get on - I just don't want stuff anymore. Is it just to do with age?

The Edinburgh festival. I really enjoyed some of the shows, but I thought I'd enjoy the atmosphere of a city running one giant event. It's mostly trying to dodge people with flyers, not be knocked off pavements, and so much noise it makes your ears ring!

I actually loved Venice, but we went for a last minute long weekend, and it was lovely weather so we just wandered around and found nice little places to eat. I think it helped that we stayed on the opposite side to St Mark's Square, so it was quieter, and also a lot of locals ate there at night which is usually a good sign. The lido was a bit disappointing though, it was a bit grey and run down.

Popeye Land in Malta. The biggest load of shite in 1 square km I've ever seen. DH still laughs about the tirade I wrote in the visitors book.

Nasty pool area in need of revamp or a deep clean. The al fresco eating area outside the cafe was swarming with flies, I've never seen anything like it. Utterly swarming. You couldn't eat there it was impossible to keep the flies off your food. Soon found out why it was so easy to bag a table!!

Boat trip which was part of the entry fee was run by the most miserable man I've ever clapped eyes on.

Disgusting and disappointing.

A local told me thats where the sewage used to run to, it absolutely stunk!

Those Twinkie bars you get in the American section.
They smell and taste of something they really shouldn't! I don't want to say what it was...it's rude. How and why do people like them?!

This will be controversial on here but London. I hated it the first time I went when I was 18 and I've hated it each time I've been since. Overcrowded, dirty, unfriendly, stupidly expensive.

Dublin. The nightlife was brilliant but the food was very expensive.80 euros for 4 bowls of fish chowder and 4 drinks.

I've got to say New Zealand after living there for a fair few years.

I would quite honestly take locked down Britain over NZ any day of the week. I think they have done a wonderful marketing job - but in reality, you can find a lot of similar scenery in areas of the UK without being somewhere where the cost of living/food is so absolutely appalling, and you have to worry about melanoma every time you step out of the door (among other annoyances!)

San Francisco. Bloody freezing, full of dirty/dodgy areas, every alleyway smelled of wee. Golden Gate Bridge was terrifying to walk across and much further away from Fisherman’s Wharf than I thought.
Fisherman’s Wharf was like a tatty seaside resort. Pier 39 seals absolutely stunk and the shops were overpriced rubbish with generic restaurants.

Alcatraz was the jewel in the crown though, loved that. Wouldn’t go back to SF. Absolutely loved the rest of California.

Rick Steins restaurant. No specials board or catch of the day up (at the time) but did have a Lobster event on. I ended up something that was sold as lobster mousse Wellington but was more like a scampi flavoured pasty 🙁 x

I cannot stop laughing at scampi flavoured pastie.

Mine is fruit. Frequently disappointed despite selecting carefully.

Wicked the Musical. Uninspiring, unremarkable. Thought the songs just weren’t catchy.
Afternoon tea at Claridges. Rubbish and so, so expensive. Beautiful setting but such disappointing food.

A five star resort on The Palm in Dubai. Not the peaceful idyllic luxury we had been sold. Noisy , stressful and full of rude holidaymakers who ignored the local etiquette and dress codes and ignored the hotel staff who tried to enforce the rules.

Agree about Mr Frosty!

Disagree about Corfu - that's my heaven on earth ( Kalami is our favourite place to stay)

Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. I absolutely love visiting and soaking up the atmosphere of the Christmas markets in Germany but the Hyde Park set up was just depressing and overpriced.

I genuinely liked my Mr Frosty as a kid. And I could grind enough ice to make a frosty.
My Mum used deliver coal as a child, she hauled the sacks up tenement stairs. Maybe her rock hard biceps were somehow genetically passed on to me and I was a freak of nature.

Camping - pack up your entire life, spend half a day putting tent up and faffing with your 'set up', have a somewhat pleasant 2 mins eating and drinking before a child cries about a minor injury, children finally fall asleep way too late through sheer exhaustion (but will still be up way too early) you drink a box of wine because it's fecking freezing, you then wake at 2am with a screaming bladder, you're seemingly trapped by your sleeping bag and rolling off a half deflated air bed that was supposed to be luxury. You tramp across a field to wee in a shed. You will trip on several guy lines. You are cold and sad and sober. You pack up, row with your husband and spend a week washing clothes, utensils and brushing grass out of your hair. You will forget all of this and go again next year.

The Sistine Chapel. For some reason I had imagined the scene of God and Adam took up the whole ceiling but the ceiling is in fact made up of lots of smaller pictures so it is pretty difficult to see it. It takes an age to actually get to the chapel but you are ushered through so fast and all the while guards are shouting at you to be silent. What I had imagined would be breathtaking was actually quite stressful and disappointing in reality.

Rick Stein's cafe in Padstow, was really chuffed i could get a booking and it was really over priced food, had better in a pub.

Jamie Oliver's 15 restaurant, was taken there years ago for my birthday and the wait staff were on us every 2 minutes, the menu was like tapas so you chose bits and it turned up when ready. I waited 45 minutes for the last plate to arrive so was keeping some of the other bits back and the wait staff repeatedly tried to clear the table, so disappointed.

Winter wonderland was far too crowded to be enjoyed.

Cleaning products.... turns out I still have to make an effort Grin

I always thought it would be great to be right in the crowd at a big arena concert instead of in the seats sat around . I always thought it looked like they were having a great time standing . One year booked standing for Ed sheeran and I hated it . All that standing around for hours , my feet were killing me . Concert was great but never again get me a seat.

Someone's going to say heaven next!

Shock and Grin at some of these. Sorrento and the Sistine Chapel - i feel i must stick up for both of these! And the pyramids. Yes, the city is encroaching on the desert but they are still breathtaking.

So mine is - big house. It's knackering and expensive.

Watching a family wedding on Zoom last week. The cameras were about the same quality as fuzzy security cameras, so unless you knew who people were it would have been impossible to guess. Her dress might have been lovely!

Having a garden. I always wanted a garden and part of me still does, but it hasn’t lived up to expectations.

The neighbourhood is full of cats and so my garden is full of cat shit. My lawn never grew properly and looks awful. The other day, I did some weeding and in the process I accidentally killed and mangled worms, slugs and wood lice. It didn’t make me feel good.
