To ask what you dreamed would be fabulous but is actually maybe a bit shit

I think this about lots of things to do with celebrity lives, when I was younger I thought it all would amazing now not so sure.

A particular one I have is that I always longed for a villa on the Italian lakes. We went to a hotel there one year for 5 days ( in the same village as George Clooney ) It pissed down for 3 days. Everything was dark and damp and that combined with the endless queuing for flights and the thought of maintaining a property in another country sort of did for the dream. Not achievable without a lottery win anyway but now I don't even want it.

Anyone else got stuff like this or that they actually got and then thought 'meh'. I seem to have it about more and more things as I get on - I just don't want stuff anymore. Is it just to do with age?

@the80sweregreat

We went to Rick Steins ( not the very expensive one there, but the other one) I'm not a fish lover at all but dh and children are. The food was just normal , nice but not worth the hype or the price tags. Had better in a normal pub , although the service was very good and the people really friendly and Padstow is worth a visit. Marriage and having children is hard work. I think I was so naive about both for years. It's a slog. I've got a cordless dyson, not the expensive one but mine is ok! It works well if you maintain it and wash out the filter and remember to charge it up. I like my one. Lots of people complain about Dyson products though!
We wanted to go in Rick Steins restaurant in Padstow but was put off by the queues and the prices. Instead we bought a fresh dressed crab and a French stick from one of tbe littke fish shops on the wharf and had a picnic in the car. It's the tastiest lunch I've ever eaten and was a fraction of the cost of going into one of his restaurants.

Being over 60 I thought id be retired, child free no money worries or ties. Turns out I’m still working as we can’t live on husbands state pension and small private pension, I’m caring for my very elderly mum, and looking after grandchildren, which is my choice as I enjoy them so much, but they are very tiring 🙄 I’m continually stressed and feel under par. Maybe my 70s might be better 🤞

Glass bottomed boats. Was expecting a beautiful glimpse into life under the sea. All we could see was seaweed and a bit of churned up sand. And it made me horrendously seasick.

Ilovemycat13 · 11/04/2021 07:16

@Shannith

Harry Potter World. It was just a bit...shit.

I just kept thinking this is so British. In a crap British way. It's stuck in Watford (I appreciate why).

You get the Knight Bus from the station. This could have been so exiting with a few actors or sound effects. Reality was a bog standard London bus with some Harry Potter ads on the outside.

It was an experience or massive missed opportunities all the way through. I was gutted as was DD.

That’s because it’s not Harry Potter ‘land’ like a theme park. It’s a studio tour, the props, behind the scenes. It’s never going to be full of exciting theme park style rides

I'm a good sailor, but I agree about feeling sick when looking down through the bottom of a boat.

I think I would find that scary, as if there was no bottom to the boat and I'd fall through!

Someone I know went on one in Bermuda and had a different experience to you, thought it was absolutely beautiful. Yours was obviously a bad day :-). Still at least you have done it, I wouldn't have the nerve.

@Confusedandshaken

Dyson Airwrap. It does exactly what it says on the tin and effortlessly styles my hair into bouncy curls and waves. Which drop out in about 20 minutes. Biggest waste of £450 ever.
Join the Facebook group.

Mine did the same, but after a few pointers my curls are staying. In fact I did my hair yesterday and it's still curly this morning

Actually boats generally. I am eternally optimistic about boat trips then remember as we leave harbour how horribly sea sick I get and I end up having to lie down and repeatedly throw up. So pretty much every boat related experience is shit for me!

Hawaii is certainly over rated . So many homeless people. Certain parts were lovely but Australia is far better.
Bali is a dirty . Hated being hassled everywhere we went.

I think that hell is London.

London is worse than Paris to me.

As a London dweller with a love/hate relationship with Paris (too easy to visit by train) I'd say it is a dead heat. Both mayors are complete idiots, both have terrible food and bad traffic, both have rude inhabitants and both have a dog shit problem. I go to Paris to see the art, but coming from London, I know it's going to be a bit shit.

I have to disagree with the posts about NZ and glastonbury!

I have been to 5 Glastos and loved each one, even in the rain and mud. The collective joy of live music and partying. My top tip though is to stay off site at a place with showers & proper toilets and that’s quiet so that you get a break from people!

Been to NZ twice and loved it- insane beauty and peace especially in the South Island! It’s like 70’s Uk and reminded me of the joy of simpler things!

This is my top tip for pretty much any festival these days, but I'm getting on a bit now and can't handle too much Grin

thecrowroad · 11/04/2021 07:34

Similar experience in Iceland for me. No whales, everyone sick except me (which was through sheer determination more than anything) and they had the audacity to point out some sort of gull on the way back. We were offered another trip the next day to make up for the disappointment of no sightings. No thank you.

mrschocolatte · 11/04/2021 07:34

Massive Attack gig a few years ago at Brixton Academy. I was so excited beforehand but it was just shite. I stood behind a group of women who just talked the whole way through and the place stunk of weed. At the end when we went to pick up our jackets from the cloakroom they had lost them....I was raging all the way home!

cheeseychovolate · 11/04/2021 07:37

Holidaying in The Lake District, wet, wet,wet, very stressful holiday with children when it rains almost every day.

Disney World Florida, so over rated, was surprised how tired it was. Universal much better.

Guinness museum, Dublin. Absolutely no content.

San Francisco was boring

I'll echo a Dyson overpriced and over hyped, mine died after 2 years.

Silverfly · 11/04/2021 07:46

@Darkbrownistheriver I'm jealous!

grenadines · 11/04/2021 07:53

Corsica- it has got beautiful beaches but I didn’t like the windy mountain roads to get anywhere.

Côte d’Azur - too built up.

Agree with Wicked being disappointing although teenage dd loved it and went again

Agree that Paris has gone downhill in last 30 years whereas London has improved eg South bank walk.

I loved New Zealand for a holiday but would not want to live there.

Blankscreen · 11/04/2021 07:54

Lapland UK
Went Christmas just gone as a special treat after such a shit year. Other people I know have been and raved about it

It was basically one long queue through the grounds with some shit acting thrown in for £500!!

Never again
