DH has come to tell me the DW didn't run properly last night so we're going to have to manage without cups today.

The man has a busy important job Confused

Re those asking about dishwasher schedules, mine always goes on overnight because of Economy 7 electricity. Same with the laundry. Bloody villages with no gas....

Alfr · 12/12/2020 14:53

@CallmeAngelina

"n our house, whoever puts in the last plate/cup etc that fills it to capacity switches it on." You clearly haven't met my children. They fill it to capacity and then don't switch it on. Angry
Your children fill the dishwasher? They are angels, and I'd like to swap
draughtycatflap · 12/12/2020 14:57

Did your husband inform you of this calamity while sipping coffee from his penis beaker?

LadyHedgehog · 12/12/2020 14:59

Dishwasher is an attended appliance and should not be run overnight, according to manufacturers and the fire brigade.

whinetime89 · 12/12/2020 15:04

You could do what my ex FIL did when staying with us and we ran out... he just used our ramekins as a coffee cup instead 🤦‍♀️

SquirrelFan · 12/12/2020 15:10

@whinetime89 was it espresso?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 12/12/2020 15:21

filling the dishwasher and not starting it is my party trick...the one we have at has a dial to set the programme and an on off button AND a fecking start button. Guess who repeatedly forgets to press the start button ....it sits there all night poised with its lights on, waiting....for my disappointment in the morning.
I probably do this a few times a month!

I have a mortal fear of not having enough cups or crockery in general....I did have 16 of everything*, but breakages occurred and I am getting twitchy only have 8 dinner plates. But since there's only three of here full time now I am just about coping.

*random cups and mugs not included.

Get A cleaner. That will solve most of life's problems.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/12/2020 15:24

What's worse is when someone has already put it on and you make dinner to find that every fork you own is in the dishwasher and it has another hour until it's finished - picnic plastics to the rescue.

Mine too - I think it is a brain issue in children under the age of 25!
BerthaBlythe · 12/12/2020 15:46

Why only cups?

Do you have extra plates, bowls and cutlery ready for potential DW crises?

Tanith · 12/12/2020 15:56

I don't think I'll ever forget my mum's explosive reaction on coming home after a week in the maternity hospital and finding out that my dad had got our elderly neighbour to do the washing up while she was away.

She simmered down eventually but, for a while, even the sight of a teaspoon was enough to set her off again 😂

Europilgrim · 12/12/2020 15:59

I think we probably have more cups than we could actually fit in the dishwasher...

Peanutbutterblood · 12/12/2020 15:59

Wait people have dishwasher schedules? And only put it on once a day? This is all mind blowing. Ours is on twice (sometimes thrice 🙈) a day

How are people dishwashers taking so long to? I put ours on after dinner and its done before bedtime

Oh and one more question, surely if it was ready to go on it cant wait until tonight because you wouldnt fit another days load in?

Europilgrim · 12/12/2020 16:01

We put ours on once a day usually (after dinner). I guess it depends on how many people are in the household? There are five of us and it isn't usually full until the evening.

After dinner last thing might not be overnight though, more 8-10pm.

I feel your pain. Sad

I really, really miss cooking on gas.

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 16:29

Who knew this could be so controversial?

The dishwasher usually goes on after dinner and is emptied, by DH, in the morning.

Only the cups were dirty because only the top rack didn't clean. (Afaik, I didn't actually look)

How are you doing OP? When you think 2020 can't get any worse and then you have to survive a day without cups! Argh!

Did he put it back on or just left it until this evening?

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 12/12/2020 16:57

Has anyone said LTB yet

cardswapping · 12/12/2020 16:58

@borntobequiet

Has he thought of going into politics?

He certainly seems to have the right sort of forward planning skills required for high office.

@SonjaMorgan

I don't take milk and use the same cup for weeks. The only reason I get a new one is if the current one is left upstairs in my office as I am too lazy to fetch it.
I don't take milk either. I use the same cup until the inside of it is a horrible brown colour then I put it in the dishwasher and choose a fresh one. Minger I am.

@Barmyfarmy no no bistro in the gravy boat. Dh looked really confused though. It was totally worth it.

And yes - he uses a clean spoon every time too. It’s infuriating.

This morning he made tea. And porridge.

If I made it I’d use one bowl one spoon one cup.

Dh used two bowls (one to make porridge in microwave and one to serve it) four spoons (one for stirring one for serving and one for eating and then a further one for his tea) and one cup.

He also put the empty milk carton back in the fridge.

Wake him up in the morning by clanging the spoons around in the bowls and pouring milk on him!

DH has a delightful habit of using every form of serving spoon and utensil we have to make food and then ends up serving with a tea spoon because the others are in the washing up bowl.

I'll divorce mine if you divorce yours Grin

When we were TTC the first time round, we had an old cup that I took upstairs and used as my piss pot (for OPKs and prego tests). I kept it in my wardrobe. I was specific about it's purpose.

My DH has two (amongst others) bad habits; not listening to me, and rummaging in places which have nothing to do with him.

Long story short, he made his coffee in my piss mug. I didn't realise till he'd finished. I told him.
