It’s a parking one!

Get on fine with house next door. Kids play etc.

About a year ago, her sister started coming to visit every single day. Weekends too. Fine. None of my business.

So we both have double drives and both have two cars. DH also has a motorbike but there’s space to keep it on our drive.

I work from home so I’m out to drop the dc to school then pretty much back for the whole morning. DH is gone in his car from maybe 7am. Motorbike stays on drive until weekends really.

So next door’s sister has a big 7-seater. But she’s taken to partially blocking our drive with it so next door’s car can get in and out.

So she parks up in the morning, partially blocks my drive. And then sometimes they’ll head out in next door’s car and my drive will be blocked.

I can (with ball-achey manoeuvring) get my car on. But if anyone was to visit, or DH was to come home, they couldn’t park on the drive. And they can’t park in front of my house without then blocking other next door’s.

It gives me the fucking rage! It’s so inconsiderate! I’ve said it to next door’s and her answer has been to knock in if I ever need her to move.

DH is so laid back he’s horizontal so he doesn’t see it as a big deal. But it’s just so selfish and irritating.

I’ve come back and parked up right behind her, as in touching the bumper, so I haven’t blocked other next door’s.

WIBU to roll the motorbike out and block her car?? If I put it sideways it won’t block the drive I don’t think.

I hope I’m explaining properly. I need to try to figure out how to post a diagram!

YANBU and they ABVU.

They know it so make sure they stick to their word.

It's your driveway, you've been accommodating for long enough. It's your driveway so you don't need to be any more reasonable than you've already been.

Stick to your guns.

FWIW this inconsiderate behaviour would drive me mad and it's what's wrong with society. It's all me, me, me.

@OhCaptain!
Do you realise what you have done to stimulate the World's economy after the Corona virus stock market crash 5 days ago?! Disney's olaf stock has reached a record high, as has Mars, Inc with the worldwide run on Twix , and same with HI-vis vests. Stock prices are through the roof.
It amazes me how one little MNetter can have such a ripple effect on the economy with one little parking thread! I saw the same thing happen a few weeks ago with Maltesers and another parking thread--- Alphabet Streets.
Marketing companies have never been able to harness the power of MN!
(Well, I guess they kinda have since it's been around so long and there's a billion ads on here)Grin

Maybe speak to your neighbour one time after they have gone out in her car? And when she says to knock just say you did but nobody was in? Then maybe when they go out they can use the sisters car or move it into the driveway so it wont be blocking you when there is no one in to move it?

Or, they could just not park over the OP's drive.

Can you leave your car sticking right out so she can't park in front?

This thread has lifted my spirits these past two days. I hate people parking on my drive and you have inspired me to deal with it with imagination instead of fury

Oh and to the people saying that the OP should just say this or that to her neighbour. She did but to no effect so she used her amazing imagination instead. Smile

Burnt the kids tea reading this but so worth their disappointed faces

Not burnt - caramelised.

Say it after me -CARAMELISED.

Well done, Emmagrub

NB - "Caramelised" only applies to kids burnt food.

If you burn an adults' meal it's "Cajun".

The sale of double-decker bread bins has shot through the roof due to another thread, too, Sissy

The effect on MN on the economy should never be underestimated.

@OhCaptain you are by far one of the most entertaining OP's I have came across thank you for this joy!

The world is firmly divided into people (who are 100% correct and normal) who think that blocking someone's drive is unacceptable and those who can't see the problem (grade-A weirdos).

I know which camp I'm in!

I have recommended this thread for classics.

Just in case those of you who have mentioned Classics don't know how to do it - you just click on "report" in the same way you would report an inappropriate thread, but then you just say in the comments that you'd like to nominate it for Classics. I don't know whether it has more chance of being accepted into Classics if lots of us do it.

Maybe a smaller one for cucumber penis.

I think they’ve earned them.

I have not read all 30! Pages of comments but I would say in a calm and unflustered way that you are unhappy about your drive being blocked, that it has knock on legal implications for access and ownership if it continues ( it doesn’t - or not for a very long time but you can hide behind that) so your afraid that it has to stop or you will need to add a physical barrier to ensure property rights are clear and maintained - and then do that if nothing changes. It’s what I did when Teddy Ruxpin and his over emotional wife tried it with us. They ended up moving before we did - trading down as we traded up.Grin

Gransnet, which is where I rightly belong, can be quite entertaining (but also a bit depressing at times) but you, OHCaptain, have entertained me far more. I'm having to stuff fist in mouth to avoid laughing out loud and having to explain to DH who simply wouldn't understand.
