My child has a badge that sees ghosts?

Lighthearted!

DS 4, has a badge he calls “birdie friend.” I may post a photo later! It’s a badge with a bird on.

Birdie Friend seems to have the gift of the “sight!” “Birdie Friend says Bob and Rose are here mummy, they like to have tea with us. Bob and Rose are DH’s grandparents who died many years ago.

“Birdie Friend says the men who lived upstairs looked like you mummy when their faces burned off.” We used to live in a former military hospital and I had a sheet mash on my face! The ward upstairs had indeed been a burns/plastics ward!

“Mummy, Birdie Friend says the end is coming soon.”

😂😱😨

BF has had a wash this evening, apparently he told DS he needs one. DS will only be bathed in unicorn flavoured shower gel so of votes BF was bathed in that too!

We had a curry for dinner (mmmm prawn korma) and DS piped up that BF wanted tonic water like he had when he lived in India “in the olden days” so he wouldn’t get “laria” which I guess is malaria?

🤷🏻‍♀️

One of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers involved with the Indian Mutiny has been resurrected as a badge. This is getting back on track...

bitheby · 29/01/2020 20:33

I totally read that post from BengalGal literally and imagined the medium getting a spirit to spook into the light bulb Grin

Bit Hmmat the latest update. Think the 'laria is stretching even my credibility too far.

TheSheepofWallSt · 29/01/2020 20:33

I am living for Birdie Friend

ShoesandmoreShoes · 29/01/2020 21:00

I forsee a trip to Caernarfon Castle this weekend OP. Take DS and BF and ask if he 'recognises' anything (or anyone).

Would your son have any way of knowing that Indian curry was often had with tonic water by expats in India because it helped not get malaria? That’s just too flippy!

TooManyPaws · 30/01/2020 00:47

Tonic water used to have a lot of quinine in it which guarded against malaria in the days without proper anti-malarial. From Wiki:

Tonic water (or Indian tonic water) is a carbonated soft drink in which quinine is dissolved. Originally used as a prophylactic against malaria, tonic water usually now has a significantly lower quinine content and is consumed for its distinctive bitter flavor, though it is nowadays also often sweetened.

A standard mixer in the Middle and Far East for European expatriates' drinks - an excellent excuse for a G&T! 😁

FizzyIce · 30/01/2020 08:20

@TooManyPaws no but the Op obviously did...

PlomBear · 30/01/2020 08:53

ShoesandmoreShoes - sadly that’s too far for a weekend visit.

We did go to the submarine museum last week with BF. DS loved it, nothing weird happened apart from BF loving it too.

Maybe DS heard me talking about quinine and malaria. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How often do you talk about quinine and malaria? Grin

PlomBear · 31/01/2020 11:09

Apparently, BirdieFriend says that “the end” is soon “cos the plague is coming mummy.”

I think perhaps BF is listening to too much TV news, OP.

PlomBear · 31/01/2020 13:04

But then there are loads of posts on MN and other news mediums panicking that it’s the end.

OP posts:
Jiggles101 · 31/01/2020 13:13

Ah people always panic about shit, doesn't mean anything.

PlomBear · 31/01/2020 13:21

I’m personally not worried, the mass hysteria is baffling to me.

I think the end is more fire and brimstone than a flu like virus personally.

I look at this thread everyday. "What will Birdie Friend say next," I wonder? Will it make me shiver with fear or delight? Birdie Friend needs to write a book.

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 31/01/2020 21:37

There needs to be a Hollywood film made about Birdie Friend. But we’ll all be dead by then. It will be made by the cockroaches.

FlamingoAndJohn · 31/01/2020 22:05

I was watching the film Us the other day and one of the characters was wearing a badge very like Birdie Friend.

BengalGal · 01/02/2020 18:46

Birdie Friend is everywhere.

bitheby · 02/02/2020 12:52

I think the End Times are more likely to be precipitated by a computer virus.

Indie139 · 02/02/2020 19:07

I second that

EllaEllaE · 02/02/2020 22:12

So how was the chaplain visit?? Has Birdie Friend said anything since?

I thought of this thread this morning, when my 4.5 year old turned to me, completely randomly, and said "The world is going to end soon." I asked how he knew and replied "Because it is." Apparently we will all get sick. Then he started talking about something else (lunch I think).

Gah!

TimeToGetMeBack · 03/02/2020 23:01

Dowser I can't tag you but I've posted a new thread in the unexplained. Can you take a look please 🙏

wtftodo · 03/02/2020 23:08

Just joining this thread (haven’t read all) to breezily share my 3.5 year old’s assertion that the world is indeed set to end, in June of this year. DC has been very insisted about this for several months. The trees have been telling DC, apparently. Everyone dies. In June. We all get sick.

I wasn’t worried until DC accurately predicted the early arrival of a friends baby. The friend, v much Not in Labour, laughed it off then texted a mum and newborn photo just a few hours later...

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 04/02/2020 00:04

wtftodo

This is fascinating! I wonder why it only seems to be little ones who know this?
