My child has a badge that sees ghosts?

Lighthearted!

DS 4, has a badge he calls “birdie friend.” I may post a photo later! It’s a badge with a bird on.

Birdie Friend seems to have the gift of the “sight!” “Birdie Friend says Bob and Rose are here mummy, they like to have tea with us. Bob and Rose are DH’s grandparents who died many years ago.

“Birdie Friend says the men who lived upstairs looked like you mummy when their faces burned off.” We used to live in a former military hospital and I had a sheet mash on my face! The ward upstairs had indeed been a burns/plastics ward!

“Mummy, Birdie Friend says the end is coming soon.”

😂😱😨

Given that the story’s chief character has from the beginning of the thread been a pre-school- aged child relaying prophecies of doom and death gleaned from a talking, evil youth hostel badge, I’m less fascinated by those who think it has only jumped the shark now than the people who nodded sagely along with the premise of Evil Birdie Friend and the End of the World from the start

So you were fine with the burnt soldiers and the end of the world, but don’t like Birdie Friend telling small children they’re going to die? Hmm Grin

Know your audience, PP.

Scatterlit · 20/01/2020 23:30

OP, not PP.

Howmanysleepsnow · 20/01/2020 23:38

Aw, I was enjoying this thread!

TLBftm · 20/01/2020 23:45

So was I. Still am. I believe OP 100%. And I’m hoping for an update tomorrow 😁

messolini9 · 20/01/2020 23:49

@Hoik, is it very Bad & Wrong to fervently hope that DS corrected his JailDad rep by informing his teacher that
Daddy is in fucking Cornwall on business ?

Scatterlit · 20/01/2020 23:50

I fully expect a friend to post saying the OP’s family has mysteriously vanished, and there are no clues apart from a giant bird footprint on the front door step.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/01/2020 00:16

Actually, Scatterlit, that is not even remotely what I said I believed. I have twice on this thread suggested ways for OP to test her son's claim that he is being told things by a souvenir badge, as opposed to making them up out of his own head. One would be to swap in a ringer badge; the other would be to establish whether he says things of this kind when the badge is not available.

I would certainly want to try both before calling for an exorcist. We charge, if not accredited by one of the denominations of church (I would recommend the Voodun, myself, as providing the best show.)

overnightangel · 21/01/2020 02:30

I’d wager the OP won’t be back but I doubt it’ll be for birdie friend related reasons !

The most wonderful thing about this thread (which I’ve greatly enjoyed!) is that of OP doesn’t come back, we will never ever know whether it was a malign hoax, or a malign entity that has silenced her.

Please don’t anybody ask for it to be deleted- put it in Classics- it’s very well done.

FainaSnowChild · 21/01/2020 07:18

OP did say it was "light-hearted...."

MyOtherProfile · 21/01/2020 07:20

And if OP doesn't come back we will never know if she took a pregnancy test.

Booboostwo · 21/01/2020 07:39

It’s very difficult to believe this entire thread is anything other than an ill conceived joke. The woo piss take was funny at the beginning but if this is a real thread this is a little boy experiencing some relatively serious psychological difficulties. Your child needs some help and support and not from a chaplain (I don’t for a moment believe you are serious about that).

NemophilistRebel · 21/01/2020 07:41

@FainaSnowChild that’s true and if this was a serious thread it doesn’t seem at all light hearted

Hoik · 21/01/2020 07:52

@messolini9 sadly he didn't but just before Christmas we almost had a crash on the way to school when someone pulled out in front of me with no warning and no indicators, had to do an emergency stop and shouted as I did it. When we got to school DS practically broke his neck running up to the door to tell his teacher about it "and then mummy said FOR FUCKS SAKE!" Blush

messolini9 · 21/01/2020 07:57

Excellent, Hoik! Well done that lad Grin

diddl · 21/01/2020 08:25

"OP did say it was "light-hearted...."

Is that a euphemism for "made up" then?

PlushPlush · 21/01/2020 08:25

I love how the skepticism snowballed at the end there. At first I was reading all the comments in disbelief about how gullible people are!

AhoyMrBeaver · 21/01/2020 08:29

To be fair to a few of us, there was a quietly rumbling sceptical corner from the start (whose logical questions and suggestions were quite rightly ignored).

anjii · 21/01/2020 08:31

TheSheep, I agree... real or not, (and I'm still on the fence), it is worthy of Classic

Cheeserton · 21/01/2020 08:33

Is that a euphemism for "made up" then?

Anything with 'light-hearted' specified by the OP usually means twat, in some respect.

FizzyIce · 21/01/2020 08:34

@PlushPlush I don’t think anyone really believed that there really is a possessed badge but I think people were believing that the ds was really saying all this stuff Which doesn’t mean it’s supernatural obviously ,just strange and creepy .
The op just took it too far at the end as she probably got bored of the ruse

PlushPlush · 21/01/2020 08:57

@FizzyIce They're still gullible either way! It was obvious to me (& a minority of others apparently) that OP was pranking from the start

incognitomum · 21/01/2020 09:04

@Howmanysleepsnow do you know if a large dog lived there? Long haired.

StarburstSurprise · 21/01/2020 09:08

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime - When we first moved to current house, both my son and I were scratched whilst in the shower, both down the middle of our backs, leaving 4 raised welts. We both felt it when it happened but no idea how.
