My kids' dad fed them badger

I'm not joking. We are separated and he sees them for the day once every few weeks. Last week he took them for the day in London and when I picked them up they told me, very casually, that Daddy had given them badger with rice for lunch. He had sent me a picture a few days earlier of a dead badger so it is totally plausible, and given that he has been homeless for the last couple of years and often 'lives off the land' I am certain he would not think twice about eating a badger. He told the kids that he steamed the meat for 4hrs but now i'm really worried about the whole TB thing. They seem fine but not sure if I should get them checked out. Any words of wisdom?

Badger Badger Badger Badger: goes well with mushroom.

Lizzie48 · 16/11/2018 08:41

True, I have that particular badger of honour, Dalek.

Love this one, as well as the poster that spoke of the 'sett menu'. I don't normally troll hunt, but I couldn't resist this time. Smile

unlimiteddilutingjuice
how do you get 'contract TV' laid on to a Bender tho?? Grin
(sorry, your post was very informative, but that bit made me laugh)

KingLooieCatz · 16/11/2018 08:44

You have to be very careful with rice that's been kept at room temperature after cooking though.

Bit surprised no one else has pointed that out but I haven't RTFT.

Signing in in the hope that this doesn’t get deleted before I have a chance to finish reading

Now I know why I’m feeling rough as a badgers arse this morning

I’ll cancel my stay at the sanatorium immediately

Cagliostro · 16/11/2018 08:53

Brocks eat, yes or no 😂

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 16/11/2018 08:54

Badgers are big, did he steam it in a laundry basket over a hot bath?

Piglet208 · 16/11/2018 08:54

But was it 'naice' badger?

GinIsIn · 16/11/2018 08:56

Badger and rice? Sounds re-vole-ting...... I mean, for fox sake!

straightjeans · 16/11/2018 08:57

If they eat animals anyway, I don't see the problem. Always makes me laugh when people draw the line about what animals can and can't be eaten. An animal is an animal.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 16/11/2018 08:57

I’ve known people who’ve done the “road-kill menu” thing. They said that badger was the nastiest tasting of everything they tried. It was part of an ethical thing they were trying - only eating things that had died anyway (only roadkill reduced the risk that they died of infection).

It’s not unheard of. I would suspect that it wasn’t badger if it tasted like beef. Hopefully it was just a joke. I’d be more concerned about the food hygiene levels - warm food is far more dangerous than eating well cooked badger.

I don’t think there’s a TB risk here though.

Schuyler · 16/11/2018 08:58

Oh gerda now that I have that stuck in my head!

GerdaLovesLiIi · 16/11/2018 08:58

It's traditional to marinate roadkill in coca cola before cooking to tenderise it. You'd need the bath for that.

AdaColeman · 16/11/2018 08:58

How many meals can you make out of a badger? More than the four from a MN Chicken I'd say. Maybe you'd get ten meals from a MN Badger!
Badger tacos and badger chilli for a start!

PinsPegs · 16/11/2018 08:59

.
OP why don't you post the picture of a badger that he sent you.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 16/11/2018 09:00

And since my post is much too serious; I hope I haven’t boared you all. It was just hard to see sow many disbelieve what people will do.

GerdaLovesLiIi · 16/11/2018 09:01

Oh gerda now that I have that stuck in my head!

My work here is done :-D

Uniquack · 16/11/2018 09:02

TB or not TB?
That is the question.

😂😂😂😂

Singlenotsingle · 16/11/2018 09:06

How do you know it was really badger? I bet he was teasing the DC.

MRex · 16/11/2018 09:09

4 hours seems like ever such a long time to steam the badger for, unless it started out thinking it was relaxing in a sauna.

Google tells me that slices of beef need only about 10 minutes to steam. Genuine question - I don't know what happens if you drastically over-steam meat; does it keep getting more and more tender until it's falling apart? I never usually steam meat at all, I suppose I could try for the baby's lunch but it would be good to get some pointers.

EdisonLightBulb · 16/11/2018 09:12

Knowing he is homeless and lives in the woods I think I would have sent them with a tenner for a couple of happy meals.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 16/11/2018 09:14

I can't be the only one who hopes social services keep a watching brief on this thread.

If it's true of course...

ShannonRockallMalin · 16/11/2018 09:15

People quite often ask to charge their phones in the library where I work. And quite often they don’t even ask, just find a socket and plug them in.

NastyCats · 16/11/2018 09:16

I saw yesterday Papa John's are doing a purportedly 'ostrich' pizza. Maybe MacDonald 's could retaliate with a Badger Burger. It could be like a fast food version of Country Companions. Squirrel Subway, that kind of thing.
