My kids' dad fed them badger

I'm not joking. We are separated and he sees them for the day once every few weeks. Last week he took them for the day in London and when I picked them up they told me, very casually, that Daddy had given them badger with rice for lunch. He had sent me a picture a few days earlier of a dead badger so it is totally plausible, and given that he has been homeless for the last couple of years and often 'lives off the land' I am certain he would not think twice about eating a badger. He told the kids that he steamed the meat for 4hrs but now i'm really worried about the whole TB thing. They seem fine but not sure if I should get them checked out. Any words of wisdom?

What?

Loulamummy · 16/11/2018 00:03

They don't go to the woods, he had them at the Natural History Museum. Just realised that is pretty ironic.

I thought I was drunk but man feeds badger to kids?

TheOriginalLadyFT · 16/11/2018 00:03

Given that badgers are a protected species, it would be illegal for him to have killed it. So if he really has fed them badger it would have been either roadkill or have died of other causes.
Frankly I doubt it - they smell rank & I’d imagine they taste as bad as they smell

ProudThrilledHappy · 16/11/2018 00:03

You’re right cheesy I’m rural and our badgers are sly fuckers.

Had one try to sell me a knock off Mulberry last week Grin

HarrietKettleWasHere · 16/11/2018 00:03

So he had bits of badger in a Tupperware box?

Loulamummy · 16/11/2018 00:04

The woods are somewhere in Hertfordshire, no idea where.

LagunaBubbles · 16/11/2018 00:04

So you're letting your kids go off into the woods "somewhere" for a contact visit? Hmm

HarrietKettleWasHere · 16/11/2018 00:04

I love badgers, they’re cute. I’d be horrified if my Dad tried to feed me one.

UnRavellingFast · 16/11/2018 00:04

Nice one Grin

CoachBombay · 16/11/2018 00:04

So he packed them a packed lunch of badger and rice to eat at the museum?

Well at least he was prepared with budget saving ideas 😂

UpstartCrow · 16/11/2018 00:05

He might have told them it was badger as a wind up but I doubt they are edible.

UnRavellingFast · 16/11/2018 00:06

Foxes more nutritious though. Typical deadbeat dad not to realise that Wink

Loulamummy · 16/11/2018 00:06

People, keep up. They don't go to the woods, he had them at the Natural History Museum. Just realised that is pretty ironic.

OK, so he steamed a badger for four hours in the National History Museum?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 16/11/2018 00:06

It’s weird as OP has a very banal posting history, then went rogue with badger and rice
I think it comes to us all. Winter draw(ers?) on, and all that.

cheesybakedbean · 16/11/2018 00:07

proud Grin

"Badger and rice" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can't stop laughing! PLEASE let this get into the great lexicon of Mumsnet.

Also the pp who have said "Why do you let your children go for contact 'in the woods somewhere'?" Just the mental image that conjures up 🤣

Mossyhill · 16/11/2018 00:08

Some of these comments. It’s not very often I literally have tears running down my face. So funny!!

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 16/11/2018 00:08

Rice eh? Well, I suppose badger makes a nice change from roast dinner...

Loulamummy · 16/11/2018 00:09

Ok, you don't know me I realise that, but this happened last week and I am just trying to get my head round whether I should be totally shocked or if I should chill out.

I barely eat anything other than chicken (I am working on trying to include other meat regularly, - I try to mix it up but the dog only likes chicken too - for dp's benefit) unless it's McDonald's so I feel your pain op. Eating badger, if true, is disgusting.

I only eat chicken, lamb, pork & beef in that order. None of this fucking rabbit or pigeon nonsense in my house, tho DP will and has eaten anything (crickets, crocodile etc).

Thegreat - 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Steaming a badger in the Natural History museum 🤣

thegreatbeyond · 16/11/2018 00:09

Maybe he paid for the 'Sett' menu? See what I did, there?

ArcheryAnnie · 16/11/2018 00:09

Who the hell steams meat of any kind? You'd roast it, or - as I would if I expected to have to eat roadkill - boil it to buggery for hours and hours on the highest heat I could.
