Think we need a bigger cat..... recommendations for a large family one?

Just that, really.

When it was just DD1, we had a 5 seater Toyota for me, and 5 seat Skoda for DH ( yes, we do love our flash autos!).

But with the DTs coming along, I think we need to raid savings for a bigger cat.... sigh! Recommendations?

Don't get a tiger whatever you do. You'll never have any food left in the cupboard for your own meals and your water bills will be astronomical. On the upside though, you'll have a good excuse for going out for fish & chips regularly. Grin

I'd really like a panther. Might be able to carry twins if you could persuade it not to eat them first.

Pros : not many people have one so you'd be unique.

Cons: have quite big paws and claw maintenance might be tricky.

Tucson/Santa Fe. Also handy for towing once they get ponies. There’s the VW Tuareg (sp?) which looks fab, probably my next car now all the ‘proper! SUVs have been squashed weirdly.

Loving this thread!

Hey OP, can’t help with a bigger cat but can answer questions on Sharan. It’s the quality you would expect of Volkswagen in terms of comfort, not plasticky etc, lovely to drive and reasonable mpg and running costs. Three full size seats in middle row and two good size seats in back row which leave you with a reasonable sized boot when they’re up. Sliding rear doors are absolutely invaluable, especially with little ones. No door to blow shut on a windy day but also means you can park in tighter spaces and a child won’t take a chunk out of the next car when they push the door open!

We are actually looking to change and would love an SUV type vehicle. Have looked at many and, without exception, the rear row is worse than useless. The seats are only maybe 4-6” off the ground and not suitbable for taller children - ok for short journeys or occasional use but they simple don’t compare to the Sharan. That said, we haven’t looked at Audi or Volvo as they are outside our budget so no point.

The Ford Galaxy is comparable to the Sharan but no sliding rear doors and the dash feels more plasticky. That said, we will consider it as have had one before Sharan and it was good to drive. Other option is the Seat Alhambra which is the Sharan with a Seat badge.

Phew .. I sound like a VW saleperson or What Car reviewer!!

Theworldisfullofgs · 10/08/2018 15:29

(Seriously I like Hondas for their very big boot space And economical to drive).

IamaBluebird · 10/08/2018 15:30

Don't just turf the currant little one out on the street though. It'll be really sad when you come marching home with the jaguar.

Singlenotsingle · 10/08/2018 15:30

Couldn't believe what I was reading! A bigger cat!?Shock

Oldraver · 10/08/2018 15:31

No Ford stopped making the Puma over 12 years ago, mores the pity, as it was a lovely car.

I have a yellow one on my garden looking pretty. The only had two seats in the back though Grin

Sunnybeachbabe · 10/08/2018 15:31

Just keep feeding the one you already have?

Can't help you with the car business but this thread has made my day Grin

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 10/08/2018 15:34

Lily that was super helpful (thanks a bunch, everyone else Grin Grin )

Didn't know Seat and VW were the same! Volvo etc probably outside our budget too - we will likely be looking at nearly new options as when the twins start nursery we will have nooooo money.

A big furry orange tabby is just what you need.
ignores previous correction

Or maybe a black one.
I remember reading in a book about cats that said the following:
Warning - male black cats can grow to a very large size.
Grin

LilyandRose · 10/08/2018 15:44

Johnny ... Seat is owned by VW and apparently they are the same car. Certainly gojng by photos, the inside is identical. The Alhambra is supposedly a bit cheaper than the VW. I’ve been amazed at how few nearly new 7 seaters are available now compared to when we last changed four years ago.

The VWTiguan Allspace is also a 7 seater but SUV so back seats with much less roomand the boot wouldn’t fit more than a couple of bags of shopping let alone a double buggy!! Apparently VW say they are for occasional use by those under 5’3” ... pity as it is absolutely beautiful!

Mia184 · 10/08/2018 15:44

How about a Leopard? Much better than the average SUV and fits families of all sizes. Might come in handy when you have an argument with the neighbours Grin
Incidentally, German tank manufacturers name their tanks after big cats.

I’ve got this model in a different colour but we find it economical. Minimal cat biscuits required to run and low output.

MNHQ - I say anyone who comes on and gives real car advice should have their MN account suspended for 48 hours. Who's with me?

goforkyourself · 10/08/2018 15:52

OP ignore the silly answers on here and get a VW Sharan.

Just make sure it's spayed, chipped and has a flea collar.

SuzanneVaguer · 10/08/2018 15:58

Oh, if you got the cat bus, your children would be the most popular in school ever... until they reach secondary school! Grin

And SMax is probably worth looking at

there's also a big new Skoda SUV, but can't think of the name, Kodiak maybe, but they're bears not cats, sorry!

fluffypudcats · 10/08/2018 16:00

😂 OMG! Sorry OP, but if you need a fat cat you can have mine. He's bloody lazy though, so not sure if he'd accommodate the kids!
