To harness the power of Mumsnet to make a little girl's Christmas...

Posting here for traffic because I am clearly not BU Xmas Wink

My friend's DD has lost her beloved Floffel. Floffel is her seal cuddly toy from babyhood and will never be found again as Floffel was lost overseas.

Friend's DD has written to Father Christmas asking for Floffel back. Nothing else on the list - just Floffel.

They don't effing make Floffel anymore Xmas Shock Xmas Sad Xmas Confused

Friend's DD as been through the wringer lately - can't go into details as would be outing but suffice to say she could really really do with a boost.

Please please please wonderful people of Mumsnet - if you happen to have an Aurora Naturally seal like the one in the photo hanging around your house (it's flannel not plush apparently and has the word 'naturally' on its bum) that you'd be willing to sell/give away it would truly honestly make this little girl's Christmas.

TIA Flowers

Dh (many many moons ago aged about 4) was in town with mil. For some reason that mil has never quite been able to explain, dh was allowed to bring his most favourite teddy bear with him. They went down an escalator. Dh dropped teddy. MIL was holding dh tight and refused to let him rescue teddy. They both watched as teddy was chewed up by the escalator machinery.......

LovingLola Oh God That’s awful... I felt a lump in my throat as I read that last line, I somehow didn’t expect that.

OlennasWimple · 14/12/2017 22:07

Crikey, that's like Toy Story 3 but in a version where it all goes wrong! How awful!

passemoilevin · 14/12/2017 22:11

Also BrizzleDrizzle how fab are you?! StarStar

Does anyone else want a MN child to lose a toy that they own so they can save Christmas one year BlushWink

TheTroutofNoCraic · 14/12/2017 22:13

My icy heart is melting.

HelenaJustina · 14/12/2017 22:17

You amazing bunch! Flowers all round for everyone who helped in anyway.

TheFormidableMrsC · 14/12/2017 22:24

Did the charity shop poster not come back? I really hoped she'd find it as a Floffle twin!

This has been such a lovely thread, people are truly wonderful on here! Smile

Probably but someone else on this thread also said they thought they had one ...

Oh lovely!

DD has "tiger" who is a discontinued Jelly Cat plushie. I was so relieved when I saw one for sale in a motorway service station I snatched it off the shelf (it was the only one). We now have tiger 1 and tiger 2. Tiger 1 is her favourite if course, but tiger 2 is also dearly loved. She took them both out at the same time last week and I was terrified she'd lose them both!

confusednorthner · 14/12/2017 23:19

What a great thread, going to bed feeling good about life now!

Oysterbabe · 14/12/2017 23:45

Lovely thread :)

My 2 year old has a Doggy and she runs in from nursery, grabs him and spends a good 5 minutes cuddling and kissing him and whispering "Doggy, Doggy, Doggy" We've bought a spare and stashed it but it's so clean and soft when original Doggy is frankly disgusting. I'm not sure she'd be convinced if the worst happened and he got lost.

Talkingfrog · 15/12/2017 00:44

Oysterbabe - we had a lost dog and the nearest I could find on eBay was a bit bigger. (still fitted into the original lead a collar though).

At first she declared it wasn't him. We followed a friend's suggestion and said he had been to the groomers and like nanny's dog his fur looked different. She thought about it for a minute and declared it was him. :)

We also had multiples of her favourite doll. Used to alternate two around. Managed to lose one in town. Told her she was playing hide and seek until we got home and I could switch around while dd was asleep. I was upset that we never managed to find her. :(

Glad the seal is on his return journey and hopefully soon to be followed by a friend.

Hooray! Xmas Grin
Well done again Mumsnet. What a lovely story....
PLEASE come back and tell us what happens on Christmas Day when Floffel is reunited with her little girl!

Anyone wanting a good cry can read Shirley Hughes's 'Dogger' - written before that was a rude word.

Bicnod · 15/12/2017 07:47

@Footle that is still and always will be my favourite children's book...

When I was little I had a seal called Sammy. I lost track of the number of times my mum had to sew him up. She even had to make him some new eyes. When I moved out I left him at my mum and dad's thinking he'd be safe there. Unfortunately, after my mum passed away, my dad decided to have a massive clear out. I didn't realise he'd thrown Sammy away until I had my daughter and thought I'd go and get Sammy for her. My relationship with my dad was bad enough before he got rid of Sammy, but I couldn't believe he'd thrown out a beloved toy from my childhood without even asking if I wanted to collect him.

FineSally · 15/12/2017 10:26

Its amazing how attached we get to certain toys. I still have a doggie made for me - he must be nearly 60 by now. He's made of a camel-coloured material that was left over from a coat. He is rather threadbare now and his ears have been chewed by several generations of cats but he is sitting by my sofa, not carefully wrapped up in a cupboard.
I will always treasure him because I only found out after she died that the lady who made him was my gran.

FinallyHere · 15/12/2017 10:49

I have a dear Teddy, a gift for my first Christmas. Fortunately, a photo has survived, of Teddy in all his glorious plushness. Today, he lives on the bookcase in the bedroom: DH claims to have been terrified, the first time he saw Teddy and realised what damage could be inflicted by the simple act of being love by me. Reader, I love 'em both but if I had to choose.....

Nervousrex · 15/12/2017 12:08

My DD has had Floppy, one of the original Pound Puppies, since she was very small. He was mine originally.
Floppy is, frankly, a health hazard, but is not allowed anywhere near soap, water or (God forbid) a washing machine. He lives by her bed.
DD is 27. What her DP must think...!
I am really enjoying this thread. Well done Mumsnet!
