Old yet glorious and obscure movies

I've always loved The Amazing Mr Blunden but am amazed so few people have heard of it.
Anyone else have old yet glorious and obscure movies they love?

I Know Where I'm Going. I love all the Powell/Pressburger films, but perhaps this one especially.

Sunday Bloody Sunday. I saw this one for the first time when I was about 17. It has the most glorious piece of music on the soundtrack which I didn't recognise at the time. Years later I heard it on Radio 3 and learned it was the trio from Act 1 of Cosi Fan Tutte. Now my favourite piece of music of all time. The film has a lot going for it besides that, though.

My Grandma used to record films for us and The Amazing Mr Blunden was one of them. There were a few others she recorded but I'm sure I've forgotten most of them, though some would fit this list. I must go off and have a think.
I also liked Clue but I've always thought Tim Curry was rather marvellous.

Flight of the navigator...... omg that brings back memories. My brother would watch it every night after school. He also watched the original Tron.

The Wicked Lady (perhaps not that obscure, depending who you're talking to).

A Carnival of Souls - haunting b/w film. I got hooked on films watching Alex Cox's Moviedrome, and this was one of his films one week.

Flight of the Navigator - quirky sci-fi film suitable for children.

The Amazing Mr Blunden is one of my all time favourites. Diana Dors was fabulous in it. The oldest girl actually married Peter Sellers I think (I could be wrong).

I have The Amazing Mr Blunden on dvd, wonderful film. I absolutely love it.

I'm also a big fan of Powell & Pressburger films Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g and IKWIG is one of their best. My favourite is A Matter of Life and Death.

I love old movies and the flavour they give of the time they were made.

Obscure wouldn't apply to my other favourite film maker, Alfred Hitchcock, nor to Ealing Films - eg Passport to Pimlico and The Ladykillers, but for today's audience perhaps the Margaret Rutherford Miss Marples might be regarded as such. Great fun and a great theme, though Agatha herself hated them.

Speaking of Diana Dors, she was a surprisingly good actress, particularly in Yield to the Night.

I've just remembered another great oldie that pops up sometimes on telly, The Seven Faces of Dr Lao. Look out for it.

Yes! Though I've gone off IKWIG slightly since reading an article the other week about how good it was by Michael Gove, of all people.
