To clap my hands and skip about in a elephantine manner?

I'm going to be a grandfather! Woo hoo! They haven't tuppence to rub together, so there'll be 3 generations under one roof. Still, DD is doing well after the throwing stopped, he's working all the hours God sends, and with luck I shall see New Person into their teens, as opposed to my DF who got less than 7 years of DGF hood. Wish us luck.

This is the most adorable, magical, heartwarming thread I have ever read!! It really makes you feel like all is right with the world 😊

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 04/08/2018 14:44

Thanks proudbrows. I started it because I didn't have grandfathers, and I thought it might be good to describe how DGS made me feel. It's archived weekly, in case of the No. 11 bus, so that Little Prince knows how big his fan club is. DW went up earlier in the week, and he wouldn't let her out of his sight. He misses us both as much as we miss him. Obviously it's not for everyone, but hands-on GPs make a massive difference to the early months.
Next update at the Bank Holiday.

I love this thread! And I loved my hands-on grandparents.

You are the opposite of a disgrace to the Y chromosome. As is that little bundle of phone-licking loveliness.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 13/08/2018 09:30

Oh Lord. He has discovered how to reach the living room door handle. He pushed a box over, stood on it, opened the door and was halfway up the stairs. DD rang in a panic, asking how to assemble the stairgate. Unfortunately, she let him see her put it together, so that's not going to last.

I'm going to have to lose a shitload of weight and get a knee replacement, aren't I?

Grin. Yep. You'll need to get fit for the rambles and poking things with sticks!

teawamutu · 14/08/2018 06:02

This thread is an utter joy, thank you disgrace and gorgeous miniDisgrace.

We didn't live with my parents but they've been very hands on and equally adoring if less descriptive, so this has been a lovely insight into how it feels.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/08/2018 17:12

I'm so pleased you are archiving this thread Disgrace. In years to come, the Little Prince will treasure it and, in still more yeras to come, so will his grandchildren.

You will become an heirloom!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 23/08/2018 22:13

Gosh it's almost his birthday already! This year has gone quick Shock

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 24/08/2018 21:46

This is the loveliest thread ever! I've got happy tears in my eyes. Wishing you well with the move and looking forward to more updates x

Cupcakecafe · 27/08/2018 10:25

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/08/2018 10:32

Oh yes, Happy Birthday to the Little Prince!

I can't quite walk, but I can stand still and make a mess for hours.

HE IS SO CUTE!!!!!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 27/08/2018 20:35

It's been a lovely weekend. DGS has been cuddled half to death, at least two of his presents have no off switch ("WHAT ELSE IS 4 A.M. FOR?"), and I've had the enormous privilege of watching someone else dealing with a massive sugar high. Ooh yeah.

DW and I can't wait to move up. House sale is taking longer than we like, but there's places coming up all the time. Fingers crossed for Halloween beside a wood stove and a little boy staring raptly at the flames.

A wonderful read! Best wishes for the move Disgrace and birthday wishes for Mini. Hopefully the sugar rush has abated!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 29/08/2018 11:01

DSIL: "have you been giving him sugar?"

DD: "you came home from work, threw him into the air twice, and you wonder why he's hyper?". This with an expression I remember very well from my DM.

@DisgraceToTheYChromosome Can you adopt me please? You sound amazing. My father has seen my daughter all of 4 times in 16 months! My mother the same. My child has no idea who any of her grandparents are. How lovely it would be to have a parent like you. I hope your daughter knows just how lucky she is Smile

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 01/09/2018 07:02

MamaMilkMachine: have a hug. Silly people, to ignore a baby you can cuddle and have gurning contests with. As for DD, she thinks I'm pretty cool for an old git, despite (or more likely because of) the way we fought when she was a teenager.

Got a buyer for ours, offer accepted on the one with the woodburner. Meanwhile, Little Prince is getting verbal, and shouting "TERRIBLE!" when thwarted. He's started walking, ish, although he prefers crawling still, at which he's very very fast.

OP posts:
BoreOfWhabylon · 04/09/2018 10:32

Great news! I predict it will be difficult to keep the Little Prince away from the woodburner though.
