AIBU to ask what is the thing you've done in 2016 that's made you proudest?

For me - despite being diagnosed with Cronh's disease, I carried on doing yoga classes all year. Now I'm looser, more relaxed, and a nagging shoulder pain from a 20 year car accident has gone.

What are you proudest of? It can be big, small or miniscule.

Managed to fund myself in the nice position of earning 50K, working from home, part time. No previous skills or experience.

HellonHeels · 01/12/2016 22:37

Great achievements on this thread!

I tackled my poor mental health with drugs and counselling. I'm not good with doctors or asking for help so it's a big achievement. Generally feeling better though more "stuff" is coming up.

Trained as a reiki practitioner and completed a yoga teacher training course. This possibly was the toughest thing I've ever done as I had to be open, find my voice and speak my truth in teaching. All my childhood I was trained not to have a voice or speak up; it was transformational.

Gave birth to second DD in a pool in our kitchen. She's such a happy wee soul and it's a joy to see the relationship develop with her sister.

Doublemint · 01/12/2016 22:39

I gave birth to my 9lb 3oz dd2 in 2.5 hours at home- with no meds and no stitches!

Amandahugandkisses · 01/12/2016 22:40

Survived depression. I'm still here and I'm getting better.

Jacquinta · 01/12/2016 22:46

Retired from a horrible hateful job and spent the summer with my beautiful horse

Milkand2sugarsplease · 01/12/2016 22:46

Well done everyone - what great achievements we've all made!! x

I graduated with a first class honours degree.

I promised my mum years when I dropped out of uni that I would go back one day and never did. she passed away suddenly in 2013 while I was on mat leave. I bit the bullet and went to uni instead of returning to work and promised myself I'd do my best to make her proud!!!

yolofish · 01/12/2016 22:47

This is such a wonderful thread, congratulations to everyone!

I am proudest of the fact that I supported my best friend through her 19 year old daughter dying of glioblastoma in February, have supported her every single day since (and she me through some minor shit), and now we have launched an official charity to beat this awful disease. It's hard work, it's all a learning curve, but we are going to do it. And we have a proper Charity Commission certificate and everything!

Paid £1400 for a sheep.

Only joking, gave up alcohol for 84 days and I am still off it

OhBlissOhJoy · 01/12/2016 22:57

Found out STBXH was having an affair 3 months ago. I'm proud of how I've coped - I threw him out, rejected his advances, filed for divorce. But the thing I am most proud of is today I moved into my own flat. I bought a new bed. The instructions said it needed 2 people to assemble it but I did it myself in just under an hour. This small thing has shown me how far I have come in a short time and how much I can achieve going forward. Go me.

NickMarlow · 01/12/2016 22:58

This year is 5 years since I was at my lowest with depression. I've been stable off my medication for 3 years. This year I celebrated my tenth wedding anniversary and dds first birthday, and I am really enjoying my job. None of those things seemed possible 5 years ago.

WetNovemberDay · 01/12/2016 23:08

Beat cancer.
Gone back to education. A fresh start.

queenofthebucket · 01/12/2016 23:10

Graduated with a First after 5years whilst working full time and studying in the evenings. Not bad considering I left school 34 years ago with one 'O'level.

SaintsFever · 01/12/2016 23:16

I got over my own inhibitions and said yes when my wonderful DP asked me to marry him and bought house despite him paying the whole deposit

Aroundtheworldandback · 01/12/2016 23:24

Wow. Some of these are inspirational. Can't go anywhere near them, but sent a fair bit of money to a total stranger, a young girl with no money who's husband recently died. She had a small baby, no money and struggling to eat. She wasn't asking for money. Not a big thing but from my heart.

KittensWithWeapons · 01/12/2016 23:27

What a wonderful, inspiring thread. Fair play and FlowersFlowers to all of you.

For me it was:
Finally summoning up the courage to speak to my GP about the anxiety that's plagued me since I was about 4 years old.

Supporting one of my best friends through the first difficult months of motherhood and breastfeeding. We had lots of 3am facetime sessions. Months later, she told me that she'd never have survived those early days without my support. Which was one of the nicest things that anyone has ever said to me.

Deciding to walk away from a career that really wasn't making me happy. I'm doing an access course with the intention of studying Midwifery at university. I'm doing really well and feel like I've finally found my place in life.

BumDNC · 01/12/2016 23:30

It is mad but I started 2 new jobs in 2016 and don't regret changing that fast.

Ellypoo · 01/12/2016 23:33

My husband left me, I've bought a lovely new home for me & my daughter, I've lost over 2 stone and despite an awful lot of pain & change, I am happier than I have been for a long time - STBXH is shagging my now ex friend, having split up the marriage of one of his oldest friends, but I have somehow managed to keep my dignity & try to keep a stable life for my precious DD.

DullUserName · 01/12/2016 23:35

Resigned from the job that was making me physically ill... and landed my perfect role in its place. Went from vomiting daily with stress to genuinely loving my job.

BumDNC · 01/12/2016 23:40

DullUserName

Similar. I can't believe how unhappy I was before!

Robotsindeskies · 02/12/2016 05:27

Losing almost 5.5st so far this year. I never thought I could do it but I have.

WindyFlowers · 02/12/2016 05:46

Passed my driving test. Five years ago I would have (and was) put off by the prospect of failure. Don't stop now Windy!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 02/12/2016 06:21

Recovered from a nervous breakdown caused by work.
Got another role that makes me happy and valued for one of the best brands around.
Lost two stone.
Started running after never doing any exercise.
A very bad year in some ways , a very good one in others.

heron98 · 02/12/2016 06:25

Cycled round the Alps on a fixed gear bike including col de la bonnette (the highest road in Europe) and raised a thousand pounds for charity.

FirstTimeMummy25 · 02/12/2016 06:41

Bringing my now 9months DS into the world! Best thing that has ever happened to us!!
