Most of the time I have detol hand soap in my bathrooms but if I know someone is visiting my home I get out the posh L'Occitane matching soap and moisturiser stuff I recieved for Christmas a few years back. Surely people notice it's always the same amount of fullness each time they visit? Plus who has enough time to moisturise their hands every time they wash them with a toddler in the house. Jesus if Im more than 15 seconds having a wee he'll be banging the door down wanting to come in or he will have jammed quavers in the xbox. There's no time for the luxury of hand moistorusing. Plus it's a bugger keeping a grip on his squirmy hands St the best of times let alone adding lubrication into the mix.

When my guests leave, back it goes under the sink so as not to waste it.

I also like the fruit bowl to be bursting with beautiful fruit. We always have bananas and satsumas but for some reason a pineapple just makes my mundane life feel that little bit more exotic. "Ooh look at wiggles84 she must peel her pineapple fresh each morning for her delightful childs breakfast". No a quick bit of toast and a banana and we're off to start our days. No one's got time for that surely?

None of us even like pineapple Shock

I know, I know I shouldn't care what people think but what little things do you project to the world so as to not to appear the frazzled dog tired slutten you are?

MaQueen DP is not going to be happy with you! Look at this - want! I'm hoping if I show it to DP, he will say he can knock that up for free to save me spending £75 on an old crate Wink

GourdExpert · 11/10/2016 07:30

Gin, I love it "we’ve turned it upside down and added a shelf in our workshop. wheels sent separately but they’re easy to attach, you just need a screwdriver"

So, they want £75 for adding a shelf to something they found in a skip and putting some wheels from b&q in the box for you. They need a new copywriter. If you're going to charge £75, you need to wax lyrical and throw in a repurposed or reclaimed or rescued somewhere in there. And talk about sealants. Lots of clear coats of smelly sealants to preserve the ahem, authentic knocks and scratches of the wood.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 11/10/2016 07:34

I'm going to have to start a spreadsheet for 'stuff I saw on MN and now want' because I can never remember all the different websites.
not the crate on wheels website but the pretty pretty metal trunks one

StuntPineapple, you have to have this

You can say it's from a little artisan stall you found in the back lanes of well, anywhere!

IKnowIKNOW · 11/10/2016 15:06

Have an unexpected guest tonight (we'll not unexpected, just OH didn't bother to tell me) but thankfully we had cleaned up the place and made it look less like we just moved in yesterday.

Lovely, Gowgirl! That was £4 well spent. Now you just need some visitors. Smile

Katietwinmum · 11/10/2016 22:49

My mum does fancy towels that are displayed at the bottom of the bath. My Dad is well used to this and panicked a bit when OH used one to lift one of the kids out the bath!Grin 'Not the ceremonial towels' haha

HairsprayBabe · 12/10/2016 08:45

Katie
'Not the ceremonial towels'

I love that! Stunt pineapples and ceremonial towels! It's the little things in life Grin

APlaceOnTheCouch · 12/10/2016 11:31

katie you have just made me realise we have ceremonial towels too Grin One of DP's friends bought them for us as a present. They were horrendously expensive and are incredibly beautiful. DP arranged them in the open shelving in the bathroom. I went to use one and he shouted, 'Noooo! They're only to look nice!'
Our real towels are kept in the en-suite Grin

FishinthePerculator · 12/10/2016 11:46

I'm definitely a Monica character with various gradings of towels; guest, fancy guest etc. Our best stunt towels are gloriously fluffy and luxurious. Around the time we moved into our house, they were being wheeled out for visitors (parents, nosy old aunts etc) almost every weekend.

Then we were visited by friends and their three year old DS. We had tidied and scrubbed the house for the visit and removed the existing towels from the bathroom but forgot to replace them. All fine until the DS ended up with face, hands and pretty much every available patch of skin covered in chocolate. His mother took him to the bathroom to get cleaned up and DH jumped up after them, remembering there were no towels. I realised too late what he was about to do but had a split second to react and decided that I couldn't very well shout out "Don't use the good towels" in full earshot of our guests. Yes, the three year old did grab the towel with chocolatey hands and then wiped his face refusing to let soap and water come anywhere near him first. It's a good job he's adorable!

In hindsight a shout of, "use the green towels", or similar would have worked in the circumstances.

BouleBaker · 12/10/2016 21:31

I can't look at those books ordered by colour! I don't have a visual memory so to me it is just so, so wrong. Books are beautiful because of their content and must be ordered as such!

AbBanana · 14/10/2016 09:37

Boule, you may be horrified to realise a lot of design decision go into the book cover and certain genres will stay away from using certain colours in their design. For example, on DH's side the books have black, white, red, and some beige spines. He reads a lot of suspense / mystery / thriller type books. You don't see many primary colours used with those. :-)

kateandme · 15/10/2016 05:10

I'm a little ashamed to admit that I spent £32 a few weeks ago on fake fruit to make it look like we have an amazing array of fresh, unlimp, battered fruit to visitors. I now own a lemon, two limes, a pomegranate, a fig, an orange, two large tomatoes, a vine of small tomatoes, a plum, two carrots, a red pepper and garlic. In fact only the small manky tangerines are real and a few apples. In fact I've not really got the space for any real stuff anymore. 😁
