Most of the time I have detol hand soap in my bathrooms but if I know someone is visiting my home I get out the posh L'Occitane matching soap and moisturiser stuff I recieved for Christmas a few years back. Surely people notice it's always the same amount of fullness each time they visit? Plus who has enough time to moisturise their hands every time they wash them with a toddler in the house. Jesus if Im more than 15 seconds having a wee he'll be banging the door down wanting to come in or he will have jammed quavers in the xbox. There's no time for the luxury of hand moistorusing. Plus it's a bugger keeping a grip on his squirmy hands St the best of times let alone adding lubrication into the mix.

When my guests leave, back it goes under the sink so as not to waste it.

I also like the fruit bowl to be bursting with beautiful fruit. We always have bananas and satsumas but for some reason a pineapple just makes my mundane life feel that little bit more exotic. "Ooh look at wiggles84 she must peel her pineapple fresh each morning for her delightful childs breakfast". No a quick bit of toast and a banana and we're off to start our days. No one's got time for that surely?

None of us even like pineapple Shock

I know, I know I shouldn't care what people think but what little things do you project to the world so as to not to appear the frazzled dog tired slutten you are?

Love the coordinating set texts.
My house would more likely give people a superiority complex than an inferiority one, but I'll be off to buy my Christmas editions of home magazines to swoon over in a couple of months as i do each year. Some of the houses mentioned sound like they'd be good in a home magazine.

Ha, sunnysky! One thing I don't stage is towels and I almost always buy them in white. Once in a whim, I decided the family bathroom needed a burst of colour and bought some nice turquoise ones from Homesense. About 3 weeks later, I thought something was amiss when the coloured towels remained pristine on the rail. Turns out DH had been instructing the children to not use the "show" towels. No need to guess if my MIL staged them then.

I love Method sprays hubcap. I had one of each scent at one point.

When I first put these books next to my bed, DP asked if I was enjoying Professor Hornblower. I looked at him like this Confused and asked him what the bloody hell he was talking about. He said 'the book? Next to the bed?'

'Oh' I said. 'I'm not reading it, it's just to match the wall Confused'

MaQueen you're my hero too! Colour coordinated books - I love it. Grin
And you've reminded my I have some 20+ years old ancient unfinished cross stitch in the loft to dig out, so I can do as you suggest with the casual draping.

Eolian · 08/10/2016 11:24

Evil. Pure evil.

AbyssinianBanana · 08/10/2016 11:33

Anyone else does this with their books?

I just outwardly 'ooooo'-ed at that picture Abyss - how lovely

GinAndOnIt · 08/10/2016 11:40

But please stop giving me ideas - my house is ridiculous enough as it is Grin

absolutelynotfabulous · 08/10/2016 11:46

Oh no I thought I was the only one with co-ordinating book spines in tasteful creamBlush. I used to buy suitably classy-looking paper in Ikea and cover old tatty books in it.

I'm more laid-back now and prefer real, but very tidy, paperbacks (penguins are best for that insouciant-but-intelligent vibe mentioned upthread. I can't bring myself to do full-on intelligent, though, because I hate papery mess.

A few Private Eyes maybe, together with the odd Viz to create that affectedly highbrow disrespect for authority.

And jazz, preferably cool and mellow, to create that chilled, intellectual ambiance.

Gowgirl · 08/10/2016 11:52

Off to rearrange my books...

MaQueen · 08/10/2016 13:25

'anyone else do this with their books?'

No. But I now know how I'm going to be spending the afternoon [happily rolls up sleeves and briskly rubs hands together]

Natsku · 08/10/2016 13:52

Unpacking and organising my house now and will probably steal a few ideas from this thread!

PrettyBlueDressForTheXmasBall · 08/10/2016 15:19

I like the colour sorted books. However I can't get my dads voice out of my head that they must go from tallest to shortest. On each row.

Jaimx86 · 08/10/2016 15:25

Whilst watching random YouTube videos, I found a real life example of a 'stunt pineapple'. Look at the man dancing in the white T-shirt.

Sunnysky2016 · 08/10/2016 16:13

I'm now looking at my books grouped by author and subject. Do I know rearrange to colour..........? Decisions decisions!

MaQueen · 08/10/2016 16:51

pretty you're Dad is absolutely right, tallest on the left of the shelf down to the shortest on the right.

And, I speak with authority on this (ex librarian).

NoCapes · 08/10/2016 16:55

Oh my God that bookshelf is like something from a beautiful dream 😍

Natsku · 08/10/2016 17:18

I just put my books in any old order on the bookshelf with the exception that the high brow books are on the top shelf so they are more visible and the Finnish ones are on one end together. Maybe I'll get around to organising them at some point.

MaQueen · 08/10/2016 17:23

That just won't do Natsku you need to get a grip and get your shelves in order, tsk...tsk...tsk...

Gowgirl · 08/10/2016 17:33

And add some niace features, silverish framed photos, a souvenir maybe some pinecones/conkers....

Natsku · 08/10/2016 17:35

Oh there are photo frames galore on my shelves! And various 'fancy' items like antique candlesticks and oil lamps (nearly all charity shop finds Grin ). Pinecones are an idea though, could get DD to make a naice autumn arrangement in a bowl to put somewhere prominent before we have our housewarming party.

AnneGables · 08/10/2016 17:39

I had visitors today, scrubbed the bathroom clean, show towels and soap out, aloe Vera toilet roll etc. Not one of them used the bathroom, gutted. I hate it when it all goes to waste.

They also trod mud all over my sparkling floors Angry.

AbyssinianBanana · 08/10/2016 17:40

Pst, sorting books by colour is so much easier and faster than by subject / author / any other system that requires you to categorise each book. I saw it in a magazine once and packing/unpacking books has never been easier. Best of all, it's a task you can delegate.
