Ridiculous things you've only recently realised you've been wrong about your entire life

I genuinely thought if you pulled the reverse cord on ceiling fans, it would circulate warm air.

My friend thought the yellow average speed cameras on motorways were there to look for missing children.

I had another recent revelation but I can't remember it now Hmm

I thought that your belly button was from where the midwife tied a knot in your umbilical cord. Artic lorries, hand gliding...
Guilty here too...
I also thought puffins were the size of penguins until I met some last year Blush

Gladysandtheflathamsandwich · 25/11/2015 22:37

Up, down, left, right
I declare a bumfight!

Yep Mrs that could work! :o

HirplesWithHaggis · 25/11/2015 22:56

OnePlan milk cattle are fed different diets depending on what their milk is intended for. Milk that is destined to be turned into cheese requires a higher protein diet, for example. So the buyer's question maybe wasn't so daft!

(I only learned this the other week, half-watching some programme that involved farmers having their silage tested.)

I always thought those cars with 3 wheels were for disabled people ...

Garlick · 25/11/2015 23:39

Why, because the car's "disabled"? Wink

PigletJohn · 25/11/2015 23:52

Long, long ago, little three-wheeled cars were issued to disabled people. They were coloured blue, and you will see them in photos of old sporting events, where they were often allowed to park on the pitch for a good view. They were not much bigger than motorised wheelchairs. I think they might have been introduced to help disabled ex-servicemen after WW2.

However their quality and safety was very poor, I have an idea they were discontinued after their safety record for turning over or catching fire was publicised.

here we are

Look, I've seen this a couple of times on here now, could someone please tell me what your belly button is. Surely it is where the umbilical cord has been tied (clamped).

Lweji · 26/11/2015 00:22

It's the scar left by the umbilical cord. Although not directly related to being tied.

ijustwannadance · 26/11/2015 00:27

Its where the umbilical cord is attached to connect baby in womb to placenta.

I'm 33 and have only just learned how to properly shave my legs (thanks, random YouTube tutorial person)! Blush

It's a revelation! I have no cuts, no bumps and my skin feels soooooo smooth that I had to wear shorts to yoga class today just so I could feel more of it ...

Lweji · 26/11/2015 00:40

I wanted to find out if there was a secret I didn't know about, and came across this
Never say there's nothing here for the men.
Grin

Pipbin · 26/11/2015 06:49

What is the correct way Magical?

MagicalHamSandwich · 26/11/2015 06:59

Well, apparently you're supposed to exfoliate your legs before shaving them. Supposedly gives you a cleaner, closer shave and prevents thos ugly bumps.

Worked like a charm coupled with pre-warming and wetting your legs and copious amount of foam (seems I was using to little) and moisturizer afterwards.

Still not convinced there's one right way but my legs feel amazing. I think I might be in love with them ... Wink

Plumm · 26/11/2015 07:02

I've just watched the leg shaving video and am wondering how else people shave their legs?

Groovee · 26/11/2015 07:28

Running water in the shower and a razor for me Blush

buddhasbelly · 26/11/2015 08:23

For PPs talking about geography (suriname - which I had never heard of 5 years ago) have a look at www.sporcle.com they have a great geo quiz of all the countries of the world (and their locations) - prior to me doing this quiz I could name about half the countries, now I know their names and where they are and also used many hours of free time

ijustwannadance · 26/11/2015 08:46

Same as Groovee and I use shampoo not foam.

MrsJayy · 26/11/2015 08:56

I remember years ago a family support worker for the disability i have had a blue 3 wheeler and when it was icey, wet or a leaf was on the road it would skid and tip over Shock the woman used her crutches to leaver it upright she was a hardy lady Grin

MrsJayy · 26/11/2015 08:59

I just use soap and a razor ive never had bumpy bits on my legs since i switched to gillete agylitte (spelling) razors they are brilliant the foam makes my legs itch

firstdirect · 26/11/2015 09:25

ApocalypseNowt · 26/11/2015 09:53

An ex of mine was surprised when i said i was dreading going for my smear test. He thought women 'must enjoy it' because something was being put up there 'like a willy'. Hmm

AnnPerkins · 26/11/2015 10:32

Oh thank you Pipbin I definitely feel less silly now.

Lweji · 26/11/2015 10:33

I've seen that you should use conditioner or an oil based product. And keep foam to a minimum.

SumThucker · 26/11/2015 10:35

I thought until I was 20 that a C-section was done by cutting a circular hole like a manhole cover on the stomach.
