Rufus - post it to yourself; you won't be able to use it otherwise.

LadyWellian · 13/02/2015 15:17

Sorry, Rufus, that wasn't helpful; there is a topic called 'Geeky stuff' (under 'other stuff) where people ask about laptops and the like.

This is not the first time my Mumsnet posts have ended up on Buzzfeed. They should really start paying me.

QueenTilly · 13/02/2015 15:43

Is the verb google in the OED yet? If not, they need to see this thread.

MMcanny · 13/02/2015 16:00

It might be DAN TDM and we could all get an autograph. But then he would post pictures of his pugs and we'd all like him again. Maybe Derek and this boy could go on a date, never realised you were so young, Del.

TheFirstOfHerName · 13/02/2015 16:00

I have an internet question. When your child presses "upload all" instead of "delete all" on her new phone, do you a) pee yourself laughing and then show her how to delete all of the selfies that were not right or do you b) show her how to delete all of the selfies that were not right and then piss yourself laughing?

I did a. She didn't speak to me for an hour Sad

rjae my advice is take your old laptop to a computer fixy place, and get them to change your operating system to Windows 7. Vista is pants.

MassaAttack · 13/02/2015 16:46

This is utterly boggling Confused

As an aside, the Internet isn't just the hardware. But we can agree to disagree on that.

00100001 · 13/02/2015 16:53

@BuffytheThunderLizard

I actually felt like answering. Impact of wearables? Gimmicky but plenty of people seem to be buying into it. Useful in terms of it's health and fitness monitoring, a watch that measures your blood sugar levels I see a use for. How many steps you've taken that day, who cares? Apparently lots of people. Quantified self. Simply, the better the tech the better we will be at quantifying a person, plenty of companies out there already trying. 12 scripts on this very page attempting to do just that. Whether we want to be quantified depends on the situation. Will I survive this surgery? How should we advertise to this person most effectively? Oculus Rift? Love the idea, great tool for teaching situational awareness, difficult to do with a fixed view window (a normal screen). I hope the NHS fights hard to not allow ANY inequality in health. But people still pay for private health care so it's clearly not perfect. Globally, absolutely, when children have to walk 12 miles to get to their school there's obviously something missing in the first place let alone when they reach the school. Perhaps though, our kids could show the same level of commitment.

@Iheartu

You're getting a lot of flak for simply taking a neutral stance. I think you're about the only person to get the point.

@Rhae

First thing I would do is re-install windows from the disc. If it's a laptop though using an OEM disc will leave you without a license key. Google the make/model for a "restore" procedure as the license key [found on the cert of auth stuck to the bottom] will not work simply by typing it in. Beyond that as someone else said get a copy of Windows 7; or 8.1.

@QueenTilly

No. No I won't.
