It's driving me crazy Grin

Here's a link to the John Lewis advert- take a look at the old movie showing on the television at 1 minute in, please.

Everybody thinks it's from It's A Wonderful Life, the embrace you can see at 3:21 in this clip:

But it really really isn't.

No, Astaire wasn't exactly 'sexy' was he? Funnily enough, I don't find Gene Kelly particularly enticing either even though he's probably more classically handsome. Both fantastic dancers though.

Fifibluebell · 09/11/2014 13:53

Have I missed the answer?

SorrelForbes · 09/11/2014 13:55

EP is now playing music from 7BF7B! Kidnapped And Chase section. Great music but oh dear...

The glamour didn't end in the 40s and 50s, of course. I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's the other night. Not a great film, but Audrey Hepburn! There are some stunning women on this thread, but for me AH is unquestionably the most beautiful of them all.

Doris is my idol, I loved her films since I was young.

QueenOfThorns · 09/11/2014 14:23

Lauren for me - such a beautiful lady, and that amazing voice!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/11/2014 15:33

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/11/2014 15:36

cruel

PedantMarina · 09/11/2014 15:49

OK, here's mine. DGM, who had nothing like the social life she should have when DGP was alive, had always had A Thing for Yul Brynner (well, after she got over her Thing for Rudy Valentino).

When I was in my early 20s, and after DGP had passed on, we heard YB was doing his farewell tour of the King & I. I bought tickets: not hideously expensive, but she went very quiet when she saw them. We had 3rd row aisle seats, close enough to see Yul bite his lip when he was dancing (there was a reason it was his farewell tour Sad ). When he did his super-long curtain call, DGP slipped out of her seat, went down to in front of the orchestra pit and gave him a little wave. I was gobsmacked at my fan-girl ancestor! Yul gave her a little smile and twinkle. I'm blubbing a bit even remembering it now.

Coumarin · 09/11/2014 15:53

Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. For no reason other than it's Clark Gable.

Does anyone else get totally p-ed off when their kids whine "boring - it's in black and white!". They are missing some of the greatest movies every made.

I'm currently watching the greatest sci fi film ever made (and I don't even like sci fi) -Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal in "The Day the World Stood Still" from 1951.

fanjodisfunction · 09/11/2014 16:19

ahh pendant I'm welling up a bit reading that.

rock Hudson all the way its the voice as well.

also Clark gable early times with out the moustache.

and I have to agree Gregory peck was gorgeous.

my great gran had a thing for Robert Taylor, she called the milkman this even though he was ugly, she had a funny sense of humour.

fanjodisfunction · 09/11/2014 16:23

I do Louise but it's my husband who says it Angry

BestIsWest · 09/11/2014 16:33

Cary Grant has always been the only man for me. Apart from DH of course.

Thank you for this thread,it's been lovely. Can we do it again sometime soon?

fanjodisfunction · 09/11/2014 16:34

Olivia de Havilland! nuff said, can't believe she's still alive.

three fav movies of mine

Hobson's choice
this happy breed
hue and cry

my all time fav the ladykillers.

all thanks to my wonderful grandad who died a few years ago, he loved movies especially British ones and would always share his collection with me. even when his dementia was getting bad an old movie would sort him out and make him happy, he knew all the stars and their stories. its a shame he's not here he would know the movie we are looking for Sad

ArsenicSoup · 09/11/2014 16:45

Ah Pedant that's lovely.

I wish there was a cinema corner to huddle in.

HamAndPlaques · 09/11/2014 16:46
