There is a tiny elderly Korean lady in my garden and I want to go out.

Sold our summerhouse on gum tree. Dude came to look at it this morning about 9am, paid and was back by 11 to dismantle it. DH all togged up to assist but the guy politely and firmly refused as he wanted to take it apart himself so he could put it back together himself.

He pulled his van into our side return and installed a tiny elderly Korean lady (he is also Korean) on a deck chair on our patio.

He then spent an hour writing on every plank and taking 1500 photographs.

He then spent two hours peeling off the roof felt painstakingly. Korean lady has been to toilet twice. As far as I can see she is here for the day out.

However she has just been to the car and produced steaming hot noodles, broth and vegetables and they have had a lovely leisurely lunch on the patio.

He has just now resumed work and has actually started to remove the planks. Slowly. Methodically. I know because he has told me that there are 85 planks. Plus window. To removed and carry to car. DHs help has again been refused although he has taken matters into his own hands a bit and is carrying planks to car.

Elderly lady back on deck chair.

Help!! We want to go out and thought that this would take 2-3 hours max. It's been 4 and only the roof felt is off. We could lock the back door and leave them in the garden but what about elderly lady's toilet needs???? And water etc? They have a little tea break (from a flask) every now and then and have refused drinks but they must need water at some point.

I read the burst page of this thread before going out earlier and was dying to get back hoe to see how it was going! I honestly thought she'd still be there now, I'm gutted! Boys thank you so much for posting this. It's lovely. I read it out to DH and he said hot pants man must be her toy boy. I disagree, that doesn't sound like her style at all.I like her,I feel I'd know her if I met here which is unlikely to happen where I live. I'm so glad you eshewed the garden centre for this,so worthwhile, and your humourous observations brought it to life. An EKL every garden should have one.
Can you pretend there's a piece missing to get them back? Tell them you found the padlock, shelf or whatever and hope they pop round again....worth a try surely. :)

First page dammit, not burst, autocorrect not my friend

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 09/08/2014 20:25

Are there any training courses to become an EKL because if there are I'm signing up right now.

This is now my second favourite thread to Tantrums' babysitting live update thread (OP were you she?) although I will always have a soft spot for the penguin on the train one too and of course the FYF rid of horses. Actually I clearly have a few favourites, but the EKL is right up there.

Remember readers, an EKL is for life not just for threadage

Flowers for Boys and Flowers for the highly impressive EKL

This has made my day! Fab thread!

microcosmia · 09/08/2014 20:35

And I'm gutted too that I didn't get to ask the OP to see if the EKL had a special technique for opening jars of IKEA jam that have the lids welded on. I'd bet anything she has. It would be a special stare wouldn't it? She would just stare at the jar and it would pop.

EKL, the toddler whisperer.

Unlabelled · 09/08/2014 20:41

Could you pop an advert in local paper 'wanted EKL for garden, will provide chair'

microcosmia · 09/08/2014 20:43

EKL beats Supernanny any day, she can do anything I reckon, she has special powers!

doingitlikeaboss · 09/08/2014 20:44

I love this thread op you've had me giggling at your post's.

Shakey1500 · 09/08/2014 20:50

Lovely Smile

You still have KM's details from arranging summer house de-construction? Could you not get in touch and visit EKL with your DS? I bet she'd be delighted to see you and hopefully not wielding a machete when she opens the door

lettertoherms · 09/08/2014 20:52

I've only read about her yet I miss EKL.

BookABooSue · 09/08/2014 20:53

Gorgeous thread, OP. I had a wee tear at your DS asking where she had gone Sad Perhaps he could buy a special toy/teddy with her gift and keep it as a memento of EKL, to be passed down from generation to generation with the tale of the day the EKL came to visit.

Salmotrutta · 09/08/2014 20:56

Better than Mary Poppins was EKL.

I'm very sad it's all over too Sad

I loved this thread and you are a very funny writer OP!

FrankelandFilly · 09/08/2014 21:04

Darn you enrique, I've now got to go and re-read Tantrum's babysitting thread! That was hilarious Grin

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2014 21:08

What a lovely thread, OP. I've just read through the whole thing with a big smile on my face. Loved it.

magimedi · 09/08/2014 21:13

I am so, so sad that the whole tale of EKL has now reached its end.

But I would have been even sadder if it hadn't.

Bless you & yours, Boysclothes for a lovely tale,so well told.

And, should you need a name change............. Grin

enormouse · 09/08/2014 21:18

You could chase up KM and ask how they're enjoying their new summerhouse. And then casually mention how much your DS enjoyed EKLs company. And reconnect with EKL.

And then come back and write EKL part 2

Boysclothes · 09/08/2014 21:27

I feel my magical afternoon with EKL might be a one off thing. I don't believe the gentle atmosphere could ever be recaptured by a return visit.

And boys you could have missed all this if you popped to the garden centre. Please keep writing and let us all know your blog page. I so want to read it. As I said before I think you neighbour which makes ekl mine all mine... Bots are your roads closed like mine are tomorrow.

CoffeeOne · 09/08/2014 21:38

Lovely thread :)

NormHonal · 09/08/2014 21:45

I might drag take my potty-training DS to New Malden tomorrow, put out a deck chair and see if I can attract an EKL of my very own.

[desperate-to-crack-potty-training emoticon]

londonrach · 09/08/2014 21:47

Norm 100 mile bike race meaning a lot of the nearby places are no ho for cars and buses.... Ekl would sort this out. She has the power....

AllThatGlistens · 09/08/2014 21:52

BiscuitMillionaire · 09/08/2014 21:53
