flies swarming at window, no answer door, house chock full of rubbish

that's just it really. Elderly-ish lady living a few doors down, no family nearby, hasn't put her rubbish out this week and no light on this evening.
Am I just being the worst curtain-twitcher ever or is thia actually very concerning? I got the shivers seeing all those flies. Do you think I should ring the council in the morning and see of there's someone who could pop round and check she's ok? I don't think o could cope if it turned out she was suffering in any way and I ignored her. However, perhaps she just likes living in a crap tip? oh dear, what should I do? (off for a fret)

Well done, you may just have saved her life.

IamInvisible · 10/01/2014 00:36

Aww well done Thundercrackers, I just did a massive sign of relief. Smile Flowers

I am so pleased, I thought I was going to lie awake worrying.

WhenWhyWhere · 10/01/2014 00:37

Flies at a cold window are odd at this time of year - their life cycle is prolonged in cold weather so it could easily have been longer than 10-14 days since the flies were eggs. I wonder what happened.

fortyplus · 10/01/2014 00:39

Brilliant! Well done Thundercrackers! Thanks

MidniteScribbler · 10/01/2014 02:08

Well done OP. Everyone I know in emergency services has always said they would rather people call and they go around and annoy someone who is ok than things are left and they have to deal with the worst case scenario.

If she comes home, could you set up a system with her to check on her? The elderly lady down the road that lives alone has a system with me now that she waves to me from her front window every morning as I'm going for my walk so I know that she's ok.

Coumarin · 10/01/2014 02:16

Oh I'm all choked up now. So glad there's people who care enough to do something when they notice things like this. So glad there's people who do still notice! Well done Thanks

We should all keep an eye out for each other, especially vulnerable people and now the weather is getting even colder. I know it's obvious but worth repeating I think.

Hope she's being looked after and is comfy and warm. Smile

Coumarin · 10/01/2014 02:17

sashh · 10/01/2014 05:34

I've just read through as well, so glad it is a happy outcome.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/01/2014 05:46

Good outcome. I'm home carer and have found someone. TBF, nothing could have helped them since they have four visits a day. Selfishly I wanted the night time carer to have been the finder.
xtreme do you always just read the first page?

Dilidali · 10/01/2014 05:58

So pleased to hear this news, well done for noticing and acting OP!

RubyrooUK · 10/01/2014 06:38

Well done Thunder. It sounds like both you and the police did a terrific job.

My brother has been in the same situation this year several times, growing very concerned for an elderly neighbour who is estranged from her family and who keeps dismissing all social services help (yet can't cope). He too has called the police on occasion when he has grown very worried.

It is such a horrible thing to think of someone alone and finding it hard to cope and possibly being ill or dying. Well done for noticing and caring. X

IrisWildthyme · 10/01/2014 06:43

Well done Thunder!

SquinkiesRule · 10/01/2014 06:56
