Things that you used to do as a child repetitively and now think "WTF?!"

The hot chocolate thread got me thinking about this. For some reason, I used to tip a full glass of water onto the carpet, the same patch of carpet, every single day. No clue why. I was asked to stop, but I just did it anyway Confused

I ate chalk too, like the chalk kids draw with. Both of these things happened until high school age?!

Anything utterly random and repetitive you may have done?

This thread has a one way ticket to classics. I have tears of mirth rolling down my face.

I thought my wotsits confession would kill the thread dead. I cannot believe others used to do similar, that's the last thing I expected!

ILovePonyo · 18/09/2013 21:39

GrinGrin At being like a horse Grin

When I was about 9 or so I would make 'puppets' out of my hands and make them talk to each other when I was in bed. Like birds and rabbits etc.

BOF · 18/09/2013 21:40

I was a flannel-sucking book-eater too Grin.

The water spilling is just WEIRD though.

Haggischucker · 18/09/2013 21:41

Another sponge eater here and loose threads on towels, yuk! :(

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:43

'Flannel-sucking book-eater' - it sounds like a Shakesperean insult.

You cur, you scoundrel, you ^flannel-sucking book-eater'.

soaccidentprone · 18/09/2013 21:43

I used to cut a chunk of cheese and then spread butter on top, then eat!

I also used to eat raw rhubarb dipped in sugar.

RoonilWazlibWuvsHermyown · 18/09/2013 21:44

I have a bit of a gross one too. When I had a cabin bed, I used to pick my nose right before bed and wipe it behind the headboard bit. When they were all nice and dry, maybe a few weeks later when I had a nice collection, I'd run my hands over them until one by one they all fell on the floor behind my bed. It was very fun!

DeepPurple · 18/09/2013 21:46

I used to eat chunks of pencil. I would chew the wood til a piece splintered off then. Would chew and chew until I could swollow it. I didn't like eating the lead though as it didn't taste nice. I also ate bits of paper.

YonilyDevotedToYou · 18/09/2013 21:46

I used to do the book eating thing. And the eating opal fruits without taking the wrappers off thing. In fact, I chewed everything- rubbers, pencils, rulers all ended up gnawed.

soaccidentprone · 18/09/2013 21:47

Oh yes. Forgot, I used to pretend to be a dog and my parents had to take me for walks and play fetch with ball. I was only 4 though.

Hooleywhipper · 18/09/2013 21:48

Ooh suck a sponge & chew bit off..... Oh yes I could still......

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 18/09/2013 21:48

Fall over and get up straight away.

YonilyDevotedToYou · 18/09/2013 21:49

Oh, and if we're talking weird foods, I used to spread a cracker type biscuit with butter, then sprinkle with curry powder and eat.
When clearing the table after a hot pudding served with cream, always used to take a gulp of cream from the carton before putting it back in the fridge (ew)

ConfusedPixie · 18/09/2013 21:49

turnoff I did the crisp thing with quavers! The warmer the paste the better

This will completely out me but there was a song ages ago "knock three times on the ceiling if you want me, twice on the pipes if the answer is no..." I used to play it and actually do it...ie jump on the chair bang on the ceiling ..then race outside and knock on the drainpipes...I was a very sad child....Also had an irrational fear that goldfish would get me in bed at night so would only sleep with light on, on my back, knees drawn up and toes curled , elbows and thumbs tucked in and surrounded by teddies...

ILovePonyo · 18/09/2013 21:50

Roonil that's what I did Shock (glad it wasn't just me)

KneesoftheBee · 18/09/2013 21:53

The more I think about it, the more I realise how much of a "chewer" I was.

I chewed any type of paper.
I had a foam toy monkey that I bit chunks out of.
I sucked on the curtains near my bed (I don't remember this but my mum said I did it in my sleep Confused)
Chewed my hair.
Chewed pencils / pens. / rubbers

I'm not surprised that I developed a smoking habit that took me 30 years to kick.

I have never chewed my nails though. That would be too normal.

cakewitch · 18/09/2013 21:54

I was a book eater too! All my Enid Blytons had chunks out of them.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:55

I used to gnaw the corner of our sitting room coffee table. No-one said anything. I used to just sit there gnawing it.

Kids are just weird.

MissPB · 18/09/2013 21:57

I love this thread! It is good to remind us that we used to be odd when we see our own children's weird habits.

If we had the glue out at school, I used to "secretly" paint the glue all over my desk and then have fun the next morning, peeling it all off. I loved that...I am pretty sure my sister was a crisp paste eater...

EarlyIntheMorning · 18/09/2013 22:00

I used to eat chalk, including my bedroom wall which was just plaster
I used to eat erasers
I always ate monkey nuts with the shells on
I would go to bed with my school uniform on top of my pyjamas thinking that I would beat my sister at getting ready in the morning Confused

LynetteScavo · 18/09/2013 22:00

I can remember what the living room furniture in my grandparents house tasted like.

I must have at some point licked it. Hmm

ConfusedPixie · 18/09/2013 22:01

ponyo and roonil used to do the picking nose thing too. I had to explain that to DP when we stayed at my parents house and he found some under the desk Blush

I love how there are so many crispy freaks!

BOF You were a flannel-sucking book-eater and I am the weird one for tipping water onto the carpet for years? Hmm Wink Grin

Also love the snooker balls story Grin

I also used to be entertained for hours by my v-sign fingers being 'people' who couldn't talk but had personailities and lives and would walk around and do tricks and use the other fingers for those tricks if they needed. Hours of entertainment. That continued until high school too.

Mine and my best friend's favourite game was having a baby too. I'd be the pregnant woman giving birth from under my shirt and she'd be the midwife. We'd play that very often.Fucking weird we were!

MissPB Did you also paint your hands with PVA glue, wait till it dried and then peel it off? Now that was my idea of heaven I still do it when doing crafty bits with my charges

Didn't expect so many funny things to turn up on the thread! I need to go to bed dammit and now I'll be sitting in bed reading MN and be a zombie in the morning!

Another raw sausage eater here.

The thing is, you can't just eat a sausage out of the fridge and expect your mum not to notice that there aren't enough to go round. So, I used to squeeze a bit of sausage meat out of each sausage skin.

My mum must have wondered about the amazing shrinking sausages.

picnicbasketcase · 18/09/2013 22:02

Chew and swallow food but then use my throat to push it back up into my mouth and carry on chewing it. Like a cow chewing cud. I also used to drink water from flannels.

I think kids are all barking.
