Things that you used to do as a child repetitively and now think "WTF?!"

The hot chocolate thread got me thinking about this. For some reason, I used to tip a full glass of water onto the carpet, the same patch of carpet, every single day. No clue why. I was asked to stop, but I just did it anyway Confused

I ate chalk too, like the chalk kids draw with. Both of these things happened until high school age?!

Anything utterly random and repetitive you may have done?

And Another raw sausage eater

EduCated · 18/09/2013 22:36

I spent hours walking round the house with my yes closed to 'practice being blind' Hmm

And I constantly justify everything I do in my head. To the point that if someone asked me why I had crossed the road in one particular point rather than another not that they ever would I could give them a full analysis of car positions, road layouts, weather conditions etc Confused

Yes DH is convinced bathroom water is 'evil' even now! He won't let the DCs drink it (unless its 3am and he won't go downstairs), it's weird what sticks with us from childhood.

EduCated · 18/09/2013 22:38

Oh I can't drink bathroom water. I'd die Shock

PastaBeeandCheese · 18/09/2013 22:39

YY to flannel sucking. I'd forgotten about that.

I used to suck keys. I loved the taste of the metal.

If I went to the toilet in the night u would run back to my room at top speed to ensure I was under my covers before the flushing finished.

VeeAndTea · 18/09/2013 22:41

I won't drink upstairs water either. It doesn't taste right. And its full of germs and pigeon poo.

troostory.

DaleyBump · 18/09/2013 22:41

I used to bite off, chew and eat my finger nails and toe nails.

I would run up the stairs on all fours. Still do on occasion.

I would eat my hair. I would also twist it and pull it underneath my bottom lip. The only reason I don't still do this (the twisty thing, not the eating thing) is because I get my hair cut really short now. It's actually the reason I get my hair cut short now.

I had to walk and eat at the same time. Like, step and chew at the same time. I had a mini freak out if I did it wrong.

I used to sew my fingers together. Still have the scars.

I used to walk along the pavement with one foot on the road so it was like I had one leg longer than the other.

I used to chew bread until it was mush. I loved it.

I used to roll butter in sugar and eat it.

I used to eat spoonfuls of sugar.

I'll be back with more. God, I was a strange child.

Hazelbrowneyes · 18/09/2013 22:41

Oh I've just remembered I used to drink neat vinegar.

I also had a comfort blanket. I say had... I still have one which I tickle my feet with as I go to sleep. I say one...I have a small travel one too Grin

I'm 27. I have no shame in my love for my blanky. These are new ones too...got both for my 27th birthday. Grin

I used to insist on bourbons and milk in bed. I always had to deconstruct the bourbon before eating. For breakfast on a Sunday I'd have roast potatoes in a huge bowl of gravy.

I used to dress up as Jet from gladiators and swing down the banister. I told everyone that Hunter was my boyfriend.

I was an only child. I'm also quite drunk now and am bound to regret admitting these tomorrow.

EduCated · 18/09/2013 22:41

Oh and you know Refreshers, the fizzy round ones in the tubes, I'd always have to run them on the end of my nose before I ate them.

Bought some a couple of months ago. Still had to do it Grin

solveproblem · 18/09/2013 22:45

I loved eating serpentines at parties.

And if they ever forgot to lock the arts and crafts cupboard at nursery I'd sneak in and steal some black card to eat. It had to be black, didn't like the other colours.

Oooh, and I'd secretly eat butter mixed with sugar at home when no one was around.

Steffanoid · 18/09/2013 22:45

I used to eat dried egg noodles still do
pretend I was a dog? and dleep in cardboard boxes I made dad get and go down the stairs on all fours

and I used to sleep in my new shoes including wellies!

Bloodsocks · 18/09/2013 22:50

OK,I'm going to admit to a disgusting one...I used to spit in my bowl of ice cream and mix it in to make it runnier quicker.

Nest0fVapors · 18/09/2013 22:51

I used to love doing the crisp thing, it went all cold, greasy and lush!

Taz1212 · 18/09/2013 22:52

What is it with eating printed paper!?!?! We used eat bits of newspaper- yuck! Horrible! In high school we used to bring in a box of pins and see who could thread to most through the skin on their fingers. WTH?

CleoBrown · 18/09/2013 22:52

steffanoid I have 3 dogs in my house at any one time who want me to lead them around and they lick my fingers, so you're not alone in that!

Dead pigeon :) I think DHs has something to do with a dead rat but I've never got to the bottom of it!

daley ouch! Sewing fingers on purpose, how on earth did you do that?

TessTackle · 18/09/2013 22:52

Poo sticks just slayed me Grin

EduCated · 18/09/2013 22:52

Sometimes I used to keep spitting into a cup until there was enough to drink Blush it wasn't even nice.

ConfusedPixie · 18/09/2013 22:53

Hazel, I also have a Blankie. I'd like to say that being younger than you is my excuse, but I am not that much younger! I also am curled up on bed atm with my trigger as Dp is at his mates house. Though tigger is usually on the bed somewhere! He's not even a childhoods toy, Dp won him in a grabber arcade game when we were teens and he has moved everywhere with me since (tigger, not Dp unfortunately!)

Aaaaah Taz you've reminded me if the vein one - putting your finger on a vein and pushing the blood back behind the valve so you had an 'empty' vein in your arm/wrist :/ urgh!

TessTackle · 18/09/2013 22:53

Pat I did the bread ball thing! So did my sister; I'm going to remind her when she's home from uni so we can do it again Grin

DaleyBump · 18/09/2013 22:54

Cleo it wasn't sore! It's just the top layer of skin, but I found it so fascinating! I also used to walk about with badges through the skin on my fingers. I was so cool.

ConfusedPixie · 18/09/2013 22:55

I sewed my fingers too. My mum had to remove all sewing stuff from my reach, which was difficult as she was a cross stitcher so it was everywhere in the house.

I'm a sponge eater. The smell of a new sponge makes me want to chomp it even now.

Also a plug drinker. And I used to sneakily eat fish food. Only the flakes though.

I still do the squashing bread into a ball thing. Only white bread though.

Steffanoid · 18/09/2013 22:58

ooh forgot about flannel sucking and bathwater drinking

DaleyBump · 18/09/2013 22:59

Omg fish food. I loved the smell and actually bought a tub of fish food to keep in my room to sniff Hmm
