Things that you used to do as a child repetitively and now think "WTF?!"

The hot chocolate thread got me thinking about this. For some reason, I used to tip a full glass of water onto the carpet, the same patch of carpet, every single day. No clue why. I was asked to stop, but I just did it anyway Confused

I ate chalk too, like the chalk kids draw with. Both of these things happened until high school age?!

Anything utterly random and repetitive you may have done?

retrohippy - I did that Milky Way thing too! Can't help you with the frottage though. Grin

PowerPants · 19/09/2013 23:55

alltoomuch - me too. I also imagined that I was really a princess, and that one day my royal parents would find me and it was all a terrible mistake that I was living in a semi detached in Sheffield.

oversomeniagara · 19/09/2013 23:58

Many if my weird habits have already been mentioned but anyway... My parents had an open coal fire with a mesh fire guard. I used to enjoy licking patterns on the mesh and then watching the heat if the fire dry my saliva. Like stained glass, only it was baked on encrusted spit. Some of my designs lasted quite a while!

I also (and maybe still do Wink ) collect skin from blisters and leave it to dry out. I like(d) to then inspect all the lines in it. I usually kept it for a few days until it totally shrivelled up.

ZingWantsCake · 20/09/2013 16:12

I told DH last night about the skin sewing.

he said he used to actually sew his fingers together!
who is a weirdo now?Grin

ZingWantsCake · 20/09/2013 18:07

all the people who complain about today's youngsters watching too much tv or playing Minecraft should read this thread.

I think informative tv and creative games are way better use of time than lying under a moving train or eating grass.
or sewing your fingers together!Grin

ToysRLuv · 20/09/2013 18:12

I think some people would argue that at least it's creative Confused Grin

AmberLeaf · 20/09/2013 19:21

This is hilarious!

I recognise a few oddities.

I loved a wee dram of malt....vinegar!

Have now been reminded of the deliciousness of sucking on a wet flannel.

Bogie wall galleries too.

I used to sit in bed awake for hours during the summer months when it was light out till late, one of my favourite passtimes was to make 'potions' my best recipe consisted of body lotion and talc, Id mix it in an old ice cream tub and by morning it would have set, then Id make something from that. Hours of fun. Grin

i used to eat pages of my books too. i still eat the bubbles in a bubble bath.

FayKnights · 20/09/2013 21:02

I used to eat butter in lumps from the dish too and I loved tomato ketchup sandwiches.

MamaChubbyLegs · 21/09/2013 01:37

I love eating lumps of butter. In fact, I did so yesterday. DP insists there is no such thing as a butter sandwich, but he is wrong!

For some reason, I used to get up in the middle of the night and hang my legs out the window Grin

VodIsGod · 21/09/2013 08:47

For no reason whatsoever, whenever I was given a pear to eat, I would take it out to our porch and pretend I was a seal, barking and slapping my hands together, and be fed the pear by my imaginary zoo keeper.

Coz seals eat pears. Obviously.

I have no idea WTF I was up to....

ZingWantsCake · 21/09/2013 09:20

mama & fay

now you are talking!
I used to eat butter like you eat a piece of raw carrot!
I still bite into butter sometimes with my bread instead of spreading it on.

cocolepew · 21/09/2013 09:40

I used to poke my nails into my grans wallpaper too, I thought it would pop like bubble wrap. You have thought I would catch on that it didn't after the first few tries, but no I did it for years Hmm.
Fannel sucking sponge chewing, furniture biter, plug water drinking, crisp paste did them all Grin.

I also used to do a thing with my eyebrows where I imagined I had a pencil on my forehead and they had to jump over it Confused. I used to spend hours pulling faces to get the feeling right

cocolepew · 21/09/2013 09:47

Oh and if we had chip's I'd put vinegar in my tea.

EduCated · 21/09/2013 23:38

Remembered as well I went through a phase for a couple of years or so where every car I saw, I had to think of a word which used every letter on the number plate. The best was when you didn't need to add any letters, the more letters you had to add the worse it was.

I got really obsessive about it, it took real effort to stop myself from doing it.

hackmum · 22/09/2013 11:15

I used to do that thing of pretending I was in a novel and mentally adding "she said" after everything I said or narrating what was happening in my head: "And then she opened the door and went into the room." I once heard an interview with Ruth Rendell where she said she did this as a child, and George Orwell did too, apparently, so I feel like I'm in good company.

grapelovingweirdo · 22/09/2013 11:30

I used to suck the water out of my wet hair. And pee in the bath before my brother got in! Some of these are hilarious. Am loving the poo sticks game! My friends and I used to play a game called spit where we could play it and spit at each other. We still laugh about this now. Oh, and making up alternative lyrics to popular songs. I remember "I saw the sign" by ace of base becoming "I saw your mum". And I still remember the words.....

grapelovingweirdo · 22/09/2013 11:54

This thread has made me cry with laughter! DP keeps looking at me with a quizzical look on his face. Might share some of these with him.

anniepanniepears · 22/09/2013 12:18

I used to put my two legs in one leg of my pyjamas and pretend I was running for a bus .never ever done this with trousers only my pjs

ZingWantsCake · 22/09/2013 15:03

annie

Grin Grin Grin why? just why?
I can't stop laughing! did you ever catch a bus? Grin

alltoomuchrightnow · 22/09/2013 18:09

I've remembered something, and it's really, really bad! It was a favourite game for a while with myself and friend six doors down. We gave the game a name, but I shall change the girl's name! It was called.. Poisoning Susan. 'Susan' lived next door to my friend. I should point out she had done nothing to us at all! She was a really sweet, slightly younger girl! We used to get penny sweets and ..well..poison them. With things from the shed. Unwrap them, squirt stuff on then wrap them up again..Fruit Salads, BlackJacks and the like. And leave them on the garden wall for her. I don't think we ever wanted her to eat them! I don't know why we did it really Blush It was just the thrill of her taking them and then seeing they were in edible. She came out one day and said 'my mummy says I'm not to eat any of your sweets' . We could've killed her :-((( I'm deeply sorry 'Susan', wherever you may be! and so glad you never swallowed any!

Buswanker · 22/09/2013 20:11

Oh my god at attempted murder of cute little girl neighbour!

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2013 20:21

This thread is absolutely amazingShock

I did do the PVA glue on the fingers (didn't everyone) and the eating all the chocolate off the Club (or whatever) biscuit before eating the biscuit, but none of the other stuff ever occurred to meConfused

I did suck my thumb. And DS ate chalk, sand and licked paintbrushes at the one o'clock club!

ZingWantsCake · 22/09/2013 20:49

I used to melt candles on the lightbulb of my desk lamp.

then wait for the wax to drop on a paper to make interesting patterns.

or onto my hand as a test to see if I can stand the heat.
