i want to make a memory today - suggestion??

Okay I want to do something spontaneous today. I want to do something with 4 year old DD which will make lovely memories, something unusual, something we don't normally do. Something a bit crazy.

Last time I felt like this, within an hour we has jumped on a train to the lake district and we boyght fresh bread and cheese and ate them by a lake, drawing everything we could see with our coloured pencils.

Unfortunately, its too cold to sit by a lake today ans I want to make a new memory :) needs to be cheaposh, budget of 30 quid!

Suggestions gratefully received!

Not sure if this is something you and your dd would enjoy but.... How about going out for a really luxurious afternoon tea? You could both dress up in your prettiest dresses and go to a local hotel/ manor house and eat delicious cakes and tiny finger sandwiches and pretend to be princesses. £30 should get you a good selection.

One of my favourite childhood memories is going for afternoon tea at fortune and mason and wearing my special blue dress. I think somehow my mum made it into a really special occasion and it makes me smile every time I think of it.

Where are you? If you can be in the Lakes in a hour, can you get to the coast easily? Train, run on the beach, battling winds and laughing, warm up with fish and chips?

I have decided to go for afternoon tea, thanks! Hotel near us does fancy afternoon tea with a children's version.

We are getting very dressed up and heading off as they serve until 6 :)

i like the idea of afternoon tea with dd1, dd2 would (unfortunately) be an ass

will have to start saving and find out where local to me serves afternoon tea

i used to love a spontaneous trip to the coast for fish and chips when i was small....yum!

I've decided I'm taking my eldest to the theatre and for lunch :) annoyingly we live in a town where pizza/pasta restaurants reign!
He would love afternoon tea!

Wow, just realised how awesome my parents made some days! I would love to take the credit for these ideas (as well as the tea party one) but they are simply fun days from when I was a kid

In London, going to the national portrait gallery but not looking at art seriously - instead we played that whoever spotted the ugliest baby in any of the paintings won (a lot of the kids in the portraits look inbred!)

Going to visit a random farm. Not a petting zoo type one, but a crusty organic small farm where I helped look after the goats and got to feed the orphaned one a bottle. Just ring local farms and ask if they'd like some young helpers for the day. (I named the lamb I saw being born Peter - don't know why) it's still something I remember.

Going on spontaneous camping trips for one night (mainly in the summer). My dad would come to pick me up from school on a Friday but he'd surprise me by having camping gear with him. Then we'd take a train to a seemingly random station (I'm sure he'd actually done some planning but he always made it more adventurous for me) and find the nearest campsite. (Although now I'm thinking if it as a parent myself maybe these trips were more to give my mum a rare night of peace.........hmmmmm)

Going into a Forrest an letting me chose our route. Left or right? My choice. Not the adults.

Random boat trips. Little boats, large ships, hiring a fast speedboat for the day. Yes, there were quite a lot of random days out on the water.

Going into the countryside and walking from one village to the next. Then getting the train back to the original village. These trips always involved hot chocolate with cream if memory serves.....

Ah I'm really glad to hear my thread has inspired a few spontaneous outings! I live for being spontaneous, although DH is more of a planner

Afternoon Tea was great and DD behaved beautifully. We had finger sandwiches, scones, wonderful cheese bite things and more cake than we could possibly eat. DD had orange juice and a chocolate milkshake and I had several cups of tea with real sugar cubes. I don't even normally drink tea, but this just further makes it a 'new' experience!

I want to keep doing new things, unusual things, things which are born from imagination. I recently had a health scare which has made me want to live every day in every walk of life

Next up - Has anybody seen Some Like It Hot? Where Marilyn Monroe's character has champagne and potato chips saying that it is a wonderful combination? Well, I have always thought...'hmm, I wonder if it is'. DH suggested we go and see a film at the weekend, but instead we are now going to buy an old, obscure movie and have potato chips and champagne (one of those little bottles - we aren't rich!). It might be horrible, the film might be awful, but it's new and then I can say I have tried it

Other suggestions? What has anybody else always wanted to do?

Wow, happydutchmummy they are just the kind of things I am thinking of!

I particularly love the farm one, I live in quite a rural area really, we are technically Manchester but Chesire is less than a mile away. That is exactly the kind of thing I am thinking of, 'real' experiences. I wonder if any of the farms would be welcoming to DD and I!

We celebrate achievements/ milestones with a meal out. DD choses the restaurant/menu, she gets to pay ( with our money) and feels all grown up and important:).

I tend to be spontaneous like this abroad, here, I've got a lot to learn from happydutchmummy :). Thank you.

Hot dogs and champagne - i think you can pay exhorbitant prices for this ina posh hotel in london, very en vogue! (just buy some prosecco and then you can afford a big bottle ) I have a bottle of champagne in the fridge.............AND some crisps DP has a cold though and we have already polished off a bottle of pink "wine". What film will you watch??

I jumped on the train with DD to london last year, didn't have a CLUE where we were going - just got off the train at victoria and looked on the tube map. We ended up at the national history museum (i couldnt have chosen a busier day if i tried) and then had pizza express.

Am now thinking about a "spontaneous" jolly for tomorrow so will watch thread with interest. Like the idea of afternoon tea but it is so expensive around here and we are a bit strapped.

Many moons ago I booked DH and I on an indian head and neck massage course for half a day. It was brilliant:).

My parents certainly had their moments of crazy, but as a young kid is was mostly good crazy. Some of my memories are just of short moments like one day it was chucking it down with rain outside and my mum made me wear a warm coat and wellies and we just went outside and JUMPED in these massive puddles till we were soaked through and freezing. Then we went back home.

I'm starting to feel like a memory making guru!

DS (3) likes going on adventures, I take a bucket to put 'treasure' (stones, pretty leaves etc) in and I let him lead the way, we live in a really urban area so it's mainly houses and shops but he loves going different ways and finding secret lanes and we run up and down the streets shouting and pretending to be pirates

It was really lovely Dilidali thank you That sounds fun! Yes I like the idea of just randomly learning a new skill, and I love any opportunity to make new friends!

I want to have memorable moments, I want to have stories to tell and 'remember whens'! I agree, I think a little crazy is necessary when attempting to be a fun parent.

Not sure what film LucyEllensMum do you have any suggestions? Last old film I watched was 'Lover Come Back' with Doris Day and Rock Hudson and I loved it so much that I ordered the poster and had it framed and it's now in my bedroom Love the idea of hopping on a train to London, I may add that to 'the list'!
