Great big effing boil on my neck! Help!

I've NEVER had a boil, ever, and now, 4 days after I go from long hair to a short bob, I've got something that looks like another nipple. It HURTS! I've put metanium on it and it's coming up to a point but there's no head on it. I don't feel too well either but that might be unrelated.

What should I do?! Help!

Just googled "how to get ahead in advertising".

OP, if the boil starts talking you must film it!

whomovedmychocolate · 17/08/2011 19:53

Yeah...having reviewed your latest pics.... that's not better - you really aren't going to get this sorted with your GP. Off to A&E is a really good plan. Honestly, if it does blow you will have a large open wound on the back of your head which is already infected. A bit risky no? Hmm

It's great that you have grown attached to your pustule but I really do think you need to let him/her/it/them go :)

Catsmamma · 17/08/2011 19:59

i briefly forgot about this today, and went and had my haircut, i am torn between hoping i do and hoping i don't get a mahooooooosive boil.

you are going to be mopping that up at christmas!!

GlaikitFizzog · 17/08/2011 20:02

Holly are you still with us

MigratingCoconuts · 17/08/2011 20:05

ok, haven't read entire thread but have enjoyed the kitchen aid link hee hee.
anyway, am a bit of a boil veteran and I think you should go to a and e. I had one on my back, it kept exploding pus (with LUMPS) which shot several feet across the room. had antib's but no joy.

Ended up back at GPs, really not taking it seriously until she got on the phone to the hospital. I was in emergency surgery the following morning at 7am (general anaesthetic!) having it (turned out it was an abscess) removed. Yep, I thought it was funny too, but turns out these things are no laughing matter and can make you v poorly indeed, think I was one step away from blood poisoning. Explains why I felt a bit doolally! Please don't delay.

whomovedmychocolate · 17/08/2011 20:27

I also got my hair cut today Catsmamma - Holly is so inspiring. In a sort of sick way Grin

musttidyupmusttidyup · 17/08/2011 20:28

I am utterly engrossed in this saga. Smile

ObviouslyOblivious · 17/08/2011 20:29

I do hope you're ok Holly?

cerealqueen · 17/08/2011 20:29

OP, please please go to A&E!!!!!!! Now.

DP has a cyst on his chest that he'd had for years but he'd keep touching it and it became infected. Went to GP who tried to squeeze it FOUR times. He gave him anti-biotics. DP still felt unwell , and went to A&E as he was working in London near UCLH so I just told him to go. The GP had spread the infection by squeezing it - he had surgery that night to remove the whole thing. He was on anti-biotics and had to have the 'hole' dressed every day or three weeks.

Please please get this seen to.

Clarence15 · 17/08/2011 20:38

Pus lumps???? Shooting across the room???

honeyandsalt · 17/08/2011 20:46

Mein gott in himmel, that's a hell of a boil carbuncle! Fgs don't try and squeeze that thing again, you'll only spread it further.

NHS boil/carbuncle page

I'm sure you know already, but apparently major red flags are rapid spread/change of infection, fever, chills, rapid breathing & heartbeat, dizziness & nausea. If that should happen =mortal danger, 999.
- read this too
- and this

Anyway, it's going down, so all good. Brew

Jesus those youtube videos are bad, yet strangely hypotic....

namefortheday · 17/08/2011 20:50

I don't think it's any better either. I think you need a surgeon and a nice IV of abs.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 17/08/2011 20:51

I also agree that it doesn't really look any better and you really should go to a&e.

If you go now they might be able to sort it fairly easily, but if you leave it you could end up having to stay in etc.

thederkinsdame · 17/08/2011 20:57

Agree with TON that doesn't look better to me, either, Holly. Go n get it checked out.

Purpleprickles · 17/08/2011 21:09

This is the funniest thread I've read in ages, I am crying with laughter. I love the way you joined the kitchenaid discussion and the very proper sounding JoyceBarnaby not daring to ask for a picture of a Kenwood Chef for fear of getting one of a genital wart Grin Grin

In all seriousness I hope you are ok and please get it checked out like others are saying.

Thank you for making me laugh harder than I have in ages though!

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 17/08/2011 21:31

Holly I think your back has a future as a large planet.

You could make a tidy sum by inviting Sir Patrick Moore round to do a Sky At Night special on your Great Red Spot. Grin

Tinkerisdead · 17/08/2011 21:32

Holly please let us know you are okay. I fear we may all be making blanket squares in the name of a boil!

JoyceBarnaby · 17/08/2011 21:35

Grin at being called proper!!!

I haven't enjoyed a thread so much in ages - who knew boils and Kitchenaids could be so funny together?!

Although, Holly, I am another one hoping you've taken yourself off to A&E by now. It certainly won't be funny anymore if you're unwell - keep us posted.

Purpleprickles · 17/08/2011 22:26

Grin Sorry Joyce.

RollingInTheAisles · 17/08/2011 22:40

The new boil range by KitchenAid. For you and your best friend :d

Hope you're ok though Holly.

RollingInTheAisles · 17/08/2011 22:41

Oops meant :o
