to make a little sign for this woman?

I have ranted on a previous occasion about the morning rat-run through our village so very quick summary:

Single track roads - short-cut to city - I am apparently only person who needs to go opposite direction during rush-hour - majority of people coming the other way clearly think I am unreasonable for driving through my own village and glare and head-shake at me - I am cross.

Obviously it is the holidays now, so the school run traffic is missing which makes life much easier. However, there is one woman who I see every single time. She drives very fast on a narrow, twisty road with several blind bends so I finish up crawling around corners in case she comes hurtling the other way. She flatly refuses to back up even a couple of feet to the nearest passing space, and she makes no attempt to move over so that both cars can pass without scraping through the hedge. So I finish up reversing to the next passing space with her driving about 6 inches off my front bumper with a face like thunder, and then as soon as the road widens at all, she squeezes past, glaring at me all the time and shaking her head.

Bearing in mind the following:

  1. I live here and have as much right to leave the village as she does to cut through it.

  2. I drive a very small car which causes minimal obstruction.

  3. I don't drive dangerously fast.

  4. I am the one reversing and getting off the road.

would I be unreasonable to make a little sign saying "The next time you shake your head at me will be the last time I reverse for you. I can sit here all day - how about you?"

Would probably be unreasonable to add "cowbag" at the end, I suppose.

Hurrah! Bravo for Farmer Giles!

Keep us informed next week too.

AND DO NOT REVERSE! Even if the tractor isn't there behind you, the power of MN is Grin

cruelladepoppins · 28/04/2011 11:37

PSML at this thread having just read all 20 pages in one go.

Agree it's shaping up to be a Mumsnet Classic.

Pannda - all the best and will be tuning in for the next instalment.

And thank you Jenai for the "angry people in newspapers" link (hundreds of posts ago) - still snorting with laughter at "I'd something something kitchen cabinets something".

SmileSmileSmile I'm off sick from work with dreadufl lurgy and you have all made my day.

WhereYouLeftIt · 28/04/2011 11:56

God yes Pannda, weekly updates please. Let us all witness the glory of her gradual descent into madness at being forced to behave ...

IloveJudgeJudy · 28/04/2011 12:09

Yay, panda, way to go. I'm with the farmer coming along as you were giving out the right vibes.

Don't reverse next time unless the nearer space is in your side. She owes you loads of reversing, doesn't she. Please post next time, too.

Have bookmarked this since it started. Loving this thread.

Cant believe I just found this!

PMSL at the MN'ing farmer Grin

I had a passing place right outside my old house. When I came across a guy in a transit who refused to reverse 10ft to said pp, I got out of the car and walked into the house. As soon as he saw me open the gate and realised I lived there he soon got moving!

JazzieJeff · 28/04/2011 20:27

SB6699 that is fantastic Grin Grin Grin

This thread is fab! I feel really geed up now, like I could just go and make a load of people reverse angrily up a country lane right this instant! It's terribly life afirming! MN classic for sure!

If I do this now [csmile] then I'll be able to keep up with developments!

This kind of thing bugs the bejesus out of me! Dts2 friend lives up a private, very narrow, very bumpy country road. One birthday I was taking him to friend's house, heading uphill. Next thing this car appears and starts to reverse. Giving it enough space and now with a car (full of more party-goers) behind me I continue knowing there is a drive this other car can get in to a wee bit up the hill.

We get to the drive, now the other car has made a huge mess of basically reversing in a straight line. Car stops and out gets passenger, one of those nervy looking older bird-like women - all cat's bum face. She then nips at me to go in to the drive, not an easy manoeuvre for me but she is obviously furious at them having to back up like that. I explain the whole "person going up hill has right of way" and she starts freaking out.

So in we go, I can see she's upset the driver (her daughter/grand-daughter/female relative) so no point in hanging about making matters worse. She goes to the other car which then has to pull in behind me to let them past!

When we get to friend's house me and other mother are shaking heads in bemusement at this woman. Turns out she was the kid's grandmother!!! Poor kid's mother was mortified and we're all "no no doesn't matter, just funny!"

Eep!

OnesDigitusPrimusMagicalis · 30/04/2011 15:06

Hurrah for the timely tractor appearance and making the cowbag reverse! Hurrah for Panda too - don't at all blame you for the big grin, I'd have been exactly the same! [cgrin]

Grumbler · 30/04/2011 19:35

Absolutely fantastic story so far - gripping - a real tale of courage and honour, with a real life hero and everything. Someone should write a book...

Can't wait for next week

The OP has been a regular poster for over a year in the current name alone, maybe a previous name before that.

So so funny...... I have snorted out tea from my nose.

ManateeEquineOhara · 30/04/2011 21:09

I have only just found this thread but shall now be closely watching! Until recently I kept my horse on a lane that was access only and before 9.30am from one end it was supposed to be no access at all. But on numerous occasions I have had fuckwitted driver incidents with the horses and when driving myself. Once I was leading my horse up the lane before 9.30 - a moron came through from the end where there is supposed to be no access, and started revving behind me, yelling, threatening etc, it was quite horrid.

I am all for anything that sends a message - printed or otherwise - to such fuckwits.
