A truly independent enquiry into child sex abuse ?

Whitershadeofpale · 10/07/2014 22:50

I've been following and to some extent contributing to the current threads about the links between the establishment and paedophile rings/ cover ups.

Like lots of others I'm angry; angry that this has happened and even more angry that the proposed investigation places at it's head someone with links to the same culture of abuse and coverups that she is meant to expose. Please consider a mumsnet campaign to try and secure a truly independent review into this in a similar vein to the Hillsborough enquiry.

Just adding my name. Nothing to add at this point.

Yes, good point: we need an ongoing campaign like the Hillsborough campaign.

Well done on your efforts, Whitershadeofpale. Who knows how much they might have contributed to today's great result? Smile

I emailed Simon Danczuk. I had a nice reply from someone who I assume is a pa. I had asked what the general public can do and their advice was petitioning and emailing local MPs with your concerns. This is pretty much what everyone has been doing so far and it looks like it has had an effect.
Well done Whiter.

I completely agree! Glad Butler-Sloss has done the sensible thing.

Since this crap has continued unabated, what I want from the historic reviews is:

  1. Victims to be heard & believed.
  2. Discredited investigators to be vindicated.
  3. Documents, dossiers & dirty lists to be published.
  4. Offenders to be named, shamed & punished in sufficient quantities, and with enough severity, to convince putative current & future offenders it's not worth the risk.
  5. Stringent double and triple checks on child welfare instigated.

Yes, well done Whiter!

Thank you. I've not really done much but hopefully it all helps.

Please tell me they've got rid of Esther McVey? Anyhoo, I digress. Well done Whiter

Brilliant! Well done Whiter and all who have made their voices and opinions known.

I think it's a little-known buy often stated fact that contacting your local MP is very worth while. Smile They cascade it up in a panic .

Yes, and I wonder how much the Tory whistle blower, Anthony Gilberthorpe, had to do with it too. I think his was the story published which actually alleges Havers to be present at a party he was instructed to find rent boys for.

Very brave to come forward.

I hope it is bravery whistling and not the desperate act of someone who senses they're in line to be scapegoated.

Well yes, indeed.

It does indeed make you wonder why now? Why not last year when the Saville case broke? But I'm also not sure just how much pressure those "in the know" are put under to be silenced. It's the filthy way the whole thing works isn't it? Is it just people's careers at risk, or worse?

This campaign for proper scrutiny mustn't stop until all those at the top are held to account.

It does! Hmm It's coincided with the surveillance for the masses + stealth for the few law rushing through without discussion. Few media have commented on that, bar a few indignant squawks on Friday. TIPP is going into final talks next month, I think it is? and has barely been discussed at all. That thing is HUGE and will affect all our lives for generations, quite realistically forever. No general commentary on that.

We have several fucking scary wars and a sex corruption scandal to keep us busy, while "austerity" goes into phase two - did you know only 20% of the cuts have been effected so far? - and we are turned into corporate serfs with no privacy and no legal recourse.

I'm considering a bet on a Royal engagement in a few months' time.

Don't know if it has already been said but has it occurred to anyone that Butler- Sloss was appointed at first because she was wildly inappropriate. Therefore, her standing down gives the enquiry 'creditability'.

Thanks Godot,

I despair a bit because as always it seems the system is investigating the system.. that can't lead anywhere. There have to be some holes somewhere though..
