A truly independent enquiry into child sex abuse ?

I've been following and to some extent contributing to the current threads about the links between the establishment and paedophile rings/ cover ups.

Like lots of others I'm angry; angry that this has happened and even more angry that the proposed investigation places at it's head someone with links to the same culture of abuse and coverups that she is meant to expose. Please consider a mumsnet campaign to try and secure a truly independent review into this in a similar vein to the Hillsborough enquiry.

I guess someone who can help state the case for a Hillsborough style inquiry.

But it would be interesting to gain more insight from those with a political background, and from someone with experience of a CP background, such as Mark Williams-Thomas.

According to this whistleblower, Michael Havers was attending the parties therefore definite conflict of interest imo

Totally agree, waiting. It's also come to light that she in fact stood as a conservative MP herself. It also appears that she doesn't have a law degree; she failed her exams and went to secretarial school, she was then called to the bar due to her family connections www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/pa/article-2684817/BUTLER-SLOSS-CONTROVERSIAL-CAREER.html

All of this combined with her history of covering up child abuse and her belief that images of sexual abuse on children do no encourage child abuse (?!) leads to the IMO obviously conclusion that she's not fit to head the inquiry.

Adding my voice to agree- we need a truly public, truly independent inquiry... Headed by someone sensible, not the sister of someone accused of brushing this under the carpet.

Those poor kids deserve a proper open inquiry. And the scum who carried out the child abuse should be jailed . I don't understand why people aren't rioting over this tbh.

I posted about this thread on Simon Danczuk's facebook page. I am feeling a bit more positive today that eventually the truth will out. Perhaps we can all email our mps raising concerns re Butler Sloss and calling for a truly independent inquiry.
I am not in the UK but is it entirely inconceiable that a march could be organised?
I know what you mean Blondiemix. People seem so subdued about this but there are also many very angry people.

Thanks scandanavian, I know what you mean today seems a bit more hopeful. Apparently there is a march on Friday but I'm not sure what expected turnout is, it only seems to have started being mentioned in the last few hours.

I live overseas so can't go on a march but it would be fantastic if it went ahead. That is great news.

What are the details of the march this Friday this needs more publicity...

I think so at the moment, I'll let you know if I hear anything else. I think really it could do with being at a weekend too but it's a start.

From the links I've been reading on Dolphin Square, her brother was not just ignoring the issues, the press are claiming he was at least present or participating in the parties....Angry FFS!

Exactly Wally so how can there not be a conflict of interest?

Report
WallyBantersJunkBox · 14/07/2014 09:48

Yes it would be interesting if the question will be put to her "are you willing to expose the behaviour of your brother as part of the inquiry?"

This article seemed very relevant to the point made about the culture of the 70s. Right, I really will be off now.

Good, it does sound like she was too close to it all.

Trouble is, so are very very many of the 50-70 yearold judges etc. you might appoint.

A large number of that generation covered up child abuse. You just didn't talk about it. Just like the BBC, who was going to be the first person to risk their job, reputation, the outcry at destroying a family. The number of people who must have chosen not to hear/believe rumours is probably huge. You can't prosecute them all.

Today we understand the massive life long damage sex abuse does, back then people didn't. Children didn't have full human rights in the 70's, corporal punishment and casually bullying by teachers was accepted. As was casual sexual grooming. Things that happened behind closed doors stayed there.

I still think we need a campaign to ensure that we have a full, impartial inquiry with the right head.
