Ruby I hate that! Stuff like that happens to my gran all the time and it so not right! Seniors needs that bit extra care, not unlike the extra care we allow school children who are mainly independent but just need that tiny bit extra. Mad for you that she ended up on the bus.
My wee gran is largely housebound but has to make regular trips to the clinic for blood tests (she's on warfarin and they need a weekly blood sample to determine the dose) and for the heart clinic, the diabetic clinic, the chiropodist, the thyroid clinic.....the list goes on, she has everything wrong, never complains and knows all about The Brits and who is sleeping with who . If I can't drive her, or my dad, she will take a taxi down (she has a special taxi card for a discounted rate as she has a low income and is a council tenant).
Anyway, one time she asked the receptionist if she would phone her a taxi to collect her.........the girl was a bit sulky and the taxi didn't turn up. She asked again.....still no taxi and in the end, because she "didn't want to make a fuss", she tried to walk to the bus stop. She made it home but it almost killed her. I was so angry. Hardly anyone wants to go the extra mile and just 'care'. She is only 4ft 11in and needs help to get in and out a car, and taxis are so high for her to feel safe getting in and out of. Lots of drivers help but often they sit and watch her struggle. I HATE that. I'm so ranting for you!!!!!!!!
What's especially annoying is that this whole thing with your MIL could have been SO easily avoided! Maddening!
