Evening all. Finally sorted out broadband and laptop at home.
Looks like a lot has gone on, so will read all tomorrow morning between feeds (yeah right, between crying fits!)
Hope everyone is well and look forward to catching up///

Frangipani74 · 18/02/2009 16:12

Congrats Balamory, hope you're all doing well.

The good news, both my 12.5wk little angels slept through last night, one till 5am and the other till 5.30 and so did my 2.5yr old, so you would think I'd be on top of the world from having such a lot of sleep. But no, sod's law, I got mastitis. It's so painful kept me up most of last night, one minute shivering with cold and the next dripping with sweat and every joint in my body aches .

MarsLady · 19/02/2009 01:22

Frangi... shower head... warm water pointed at your breast. Massage and express.

Wide toothed comb. Comb gently down your breast.

Drink lots and lots of fluids and rest where you can.

I'm sorry honey.

Welcome to all the newbies Twins are wonderful! Mine wee weapons of mass destruction are now 5.

Well done GBB... you're getting there. Step at a time

MarsLady · 19/02/2009 01:22

congratulations Balamory. Lovely news

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 19/02/2009 16:40

Congratulations Balamory, hope it's going OK. You really must be busy.

Progress for us, though it may be down to after effects of BCG, but Hope managed to wake up just once last night between 6.30 and 6.30. Against all my instincts I'm letting her and Vic wake naturally at night to see if either of them can sleep longer (rather than waking the second one when one wakes), so had the annoyance of Hope waking at 2am then Vic at 3am, but at least we're heading in the right direction. I'd forgotten that it plays havock with the boobs when they start to go longer between feeds, I also had some inflammation Fran - savoy cabbage leaves do it for me ! Not the same as actual mastitis, though, I realise - poor you.

Frangipani74 · 19/02/2009 20:29

I did the same as you NQSBB, as one slept a lot better than the other, didn't seem to be any point in waking a baby that was capable of going a few more hours. Also didn't wake them for 10/11pm feed, they seemed to be able to do longer stretches when left to their own devices. If they regularly go to 2 and 3am you can then try and stretch their feeds by 10, or 20mins whatever you feel comfortable with and they'll be going through till 5 or 6am in no time.

Docs prescribed antibiotics as it doesn't seem to be going, - this will probably upset babies tummies but I can't let infection get any worse. Thanks for advice Mars, I've been doing all that, but haven't tried cabbage leaves yet. I've been drugging myself up with ibuprofen and paracetamol, so not feeling feverish or achey now so that's good. Babies had another good night, I actually had 5 and half hour stretch of sleep, before I had to get up and express milk off the painful side.

Bmum1 · 20/02/2009 08:38

Hi all

Just started on mumsnet and posted about my new twin boys. Born 9 Feb at 37 weeks they weighed 5lb 15oz and 6lb 6oz. Their names are Jonah and Zach and they are the baby brothers to Jacob, 5 and Max, 3.

Looking forward to reading all about other mums twin experiences and learning about the brave new world of having two at once!

KJTWINS · 20/02/2009 18:28

have followed from another thread i have twins boy girl 6 months now i was terrified to not wake my girl to feed with her brother in case she woke up an hour later or something but one night my stepdaughter was up ill and i thought what the hell will be up all night anyway and she was a star and slept on till 6 and has been good ever since although in the early days she was impossible to settle and her brother was great is this what happens with twins? anyway just chilling with wine on a friday and will have HELP ALL WEEKEND great

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 23/02/2009 18:21

Hi Bmum1 and KJ. Sounds like you will have a lot of testosterone to contend with, Bmum1, how's it going so far?

KJ, good to hear you did the same kind of thing with your twins. I'm a bit confused about what to do with mine now, as the girl has woken at a different time every night for the past 4 nights, so bit hard to work out which pattern to encourage - she woke at 11pm last night but we didn't feed her much as we know she can go much longer, but now I wonder if I should feed her then with her brother in the hope that takes her all the way through? Goodness, it's so confusing! I just keep repeating the usual mantra 'it will get better' and look forward to a couple of months down the line when they may both be getting good solid stretches of sleep.

We had a nice weekend of socialising, and the babies were very co-operative. My mum was here, such luxury.

How's everyone?

Pheonixnights · 24/02/2009 15:47

Hi everyone especially Bmum1 and KJ.

I survived half term!! Had 4 children to look after and it actually went ok.

DTs are nearly 8 weeks old and are utterly delicious!! However things are still dreadful at night!! They had the snuffles at the weekend and we regressed back to nearly no sleep at all. The only sleep dh and I had was when they were laying on our fronts. My back is going to be ruined soon!! They seem to be getting over their cold and last night they were feeding 3 hourly. They are still exclusivly BF but I am really thinking about introducing a FF just to get a bit more sleep. I try to get a power nap during the day as I would be a zombie without one. I am hoping that things improve soon!!!

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 24/02/2009 20:23

Pheonix, same here - last night was back to no sleep for me! They woke 3-hourly but on a different schedule. I'm hoping it's because of their snuffles or a growth spurt (which could certainly be the case with DS as I can practically see him growing at the moment). But even without sleep, I agree with you - they are delicious!

TALLULAHBELLE · 28/02/2009 15:15

Hi everyone. I haven't managed on here since DT's arived- they're 2 months old already . Will try & have bit of a catch up & get on later. Hope everyone is well. Can't wait to read about all the new arrivals.

accessorizequeen · 28/02/2009 20:44

Hullo all, I lurk occasionally to see what you're all doing but internet access a bit rubbish lately and too tired anyway!
Congrats to all the new arrivals and new twin mummies
Mine are 5 months now, and getting very hard to entertain. I'm still struggling to get out of the house much aside from the school run, feel lonely & isolated as don't know anyone in RL with twins or more to talk to. Would have gone to twins club this week but the dt's have both got chicken pox and it's been pretty horrible. DS3 getting better but dd has been screaming much of the afternoon as she's not too happy with it. Horrible open sores all over her back so I'm not surprised, poor little mite. DS2 had it a fortnight ago so after this is over I'm hoping life will calm down a bit before easter!

TALLULAHBELLE · 01/03/2009 11:00

A/Q what a shame.Hope the pox clears up soon. It's really hard to get out the house isn't it? The logistics alone are a nightmare. I can't manage to move my 3 around without another pair of adult hands & its isolating & quite depressing. When DD was this age I got out with her all the time -bounce n rhyme, baby yoga, breastfeeding support, coffee with other mums & bubs- it really kept me going, but this time around its just too hard. Must get better though.[Tallulah clutches at straws].

poorbuthappy · 02/03/2009 15:00

Does anyone else find that if you wake them for a feed they don't take it as well? Sometimes my little monkies will go 5 hours in the day which worries me cos i always think it means we will be in for a bad night cos they won't have eaten enough. But if i wake them they will not feed properly!

Frangipani74 · 02/03/2009 19:31

How old are yours PBH? When mine were in the first 4wks they were hard to wake, a nappy change usually did the job, then I could feed them, but they were still a bit sleepy and wouldn't feed for that long. I can't get my little ones to nap for longer than 30-45mins now though, just thinking of how much I could get done in 5hours!!

Sorry to hear things are so rough for you at the moment AQ being a twin mum is hell of a lot harder than I ever thought it would be. Gets you down spending too much time in the house, hopefully weather will improve soon so at least we can get out into the garden. Been feeling fairly low, had mastitis, followed by thrush in breasts. And few weeks ago decided babies had to start taking naps in cot rather than being carried around and rocked to sleep, it has been really exhausting I have shed many tears, but think we're finally turning a corner, not napping very long but they're beginning to settle themselves a bit better, and we haven't had to do any cc.

accessorizequeen · 02/03/2009 20:58

It's all just adjustment after adjustment isn't it? I've had two kids already but you wouldn't know it, I feel like a baby virgin trying to figure out how to get them to feed regularly and well, nap for more than 40 minutes and keep them entertained.Thank god they're over the chicken pox now, thanks Tallulah. Today somehow seemed a better day. I had 'music time' which consists of me maniacallly singing nursery rhymes and waving maracas for about 15 minutes Then took them out in the garden to listen to the birds and look at the plants whilst I trimmed some shrubs (another 15 minutes). Have discovered that ds3 really likes In the Night Garden so I've taken to plonking him in front of it whilst I at least get to change dd's nappy and spend a few minutes with her. Otherwise he completely monopolizes my attention because of his reflux.

I've sadly given up bfing ds3, it got harder and harder and he didn't seem to be enjoying it or getting any comfort from me the way dd definitely does. Twas making us both miserable really and I felt 5 months was a good time as the research seems to point that I've helped to protect him from eczema and asthma which are in the family. Seems weird just bfing dd now but she's so easy and loves it and he's much happier on formula. Indeed it's making family life a lot easier all round. Can't say I miss tandem feeding much, found it a nightmare with 2 huge babies, nipple shields and a reflux baby who screamed the house down!

Sorry about the mastitis, Fran, god it's awful isn't it? I have had so many blocked ducts but luckily none of them turned bad. My two have started having an hour in the morning rather than 30 minutes, then generally 2 more 30 min naps in the afternoon. I guess soon enough they might combine the two into an hour & make my life easier. It was nice to have my routine back today (to some extent) because it's been shot to hell after 3 weeks of mayhem (ds2 chicken pox, half term, dt's chicken pox). I am religiously writing down every feed, nap, nappy and medication for them and it's really helping me get a handle on it. Also makes it easy for dp to look after them as he knows exactly when they last fed etc. Much calmer household since I designed my little form

Anyone made it to twins club yet?

poorbuthappy · 02/03/2009 21:32

Mine are 13 weeks now...
I am still more or less demand feeding in the day when I'm in the house. But when I'm out in the car, or in pushchair I am finding I am waking them up at 4.5 to 5 hours, and they flatly refuse to take a reasonable bottle. When I just let them wake up then they eat fine, but as they are still so little (7lb 9 and 8lb8) I just feel soooo guilty that I'm not feeding them properly!

But the nights are fine, bed asleep by 8.30pm, waking about 4am for a bottle, then up at 8. Obviously we still have our bad nights, but the good ones far outweigh them!

I'm finding the days really hard now as they aren't sleeping as much when we are in the house. I try to get out a few times a week, but I do enjoy staying in sometimes, and pottering with eldest dd before she goes to preschool. For some reason they will only sleep properly outside of the house!

We've got our second lot of jabs on wednesday so I'm not looking forward to that!

mel2005 · 06/03/2009 13:14

hi all, my two are 10 weeks on monday and are doing well now. oscar is much better and is having a growth spurt every 2 weeks!!! he put on 10 oz this week so he will soon catch up with alice. i am 90% on re-usable nappies which is working out really well.
we do go out quite a bit when the other two are at nursery. i bought a icandy so i can pop the car seats on when i go shopping which makes it quicker. the mountain buggy has been fab for getting out with all four as i have two buggyboards on the back. i even spent the day with all four on my own at the dinosaur park. it was hard work as DS1 and DD1 run off in different directions to play. i did have a large glass of wine when they were all in bed. when i go to the supermarket it takes about an hour longer as i get stopped my all the old ladies.
i have given up breastfeeding though and they are still on 3 hr feeds 7am to 10pm and one at around 4am. they have between 5-6oz each feed. on wed oscar was 8lb10oz and alice 9lb 10oz. they are the same length but alice is rather chubbier!!!
i will try and catch up later on all the news.

mel2005 · 06/03/2009 13:17

AQ, AT 'MUSIC TIME'

mel2005 · 06/03/2009 13:22

AQ both mine have reflux and we found it much better using cow and gate 'comfort' milk. i do the same thing writing down feeds, it was so much easier when i went to the hospital as they could see when oscar had fed and when he had been sick.

poorbuthappy · 06/03/2009 17:00

Mel glad to hear that all is now well with you and yours!

accessorizequeen · 10/03/2009 22:37

Nice to hear from you, Mel and amazed at spending an entire day 'out' with all four. No way do I want to do that, and lucky I don't have to. Main problem is that ds2 just can't walk v.far and I can't carry one of the babies due to my spd. How're you getting on with the galaxy? We were trying to get a switch fitted for the front passenger airbag but were quoted £130, I'm sure you said you had it done didn't you?

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 11/03/2009 20:00

Hi everyone, hope you're all OK. Mel, v impressed with you getting out and about as AQ says, my DH was ill on Sunday and Monday and I really struggled with dealing with my 3 on my own.

Mine are 12 weeks now, and both doing well, though DS is particularly 'healthy' - I think he's about 16 or 17lbs. He seems hungry after every feed so I may need to start topping up more with formula - no sign of him sleeping through though DD2 is now going from 7pm to 5am fairly predictably. Though it's still hard to keep up with everything, I am finding it much more rewarding now they are responsive and smiley, I'll try and post some more pics soon. We had our second trip up to housesit in Norfolk and it was great to be able to get out and about so much more than last time.
