OH MY WORD

Had a heart-stopping moment last night, courtesy of who? Yup, you've guessed it, the DTs.

Was feeding baby downstairs, trying to get him to stay awake for another ten minutes (in the vain hope that it would equal another ten minutes sleep in the morning ) but he was so wriggly and sleepy that I thought 'sack it, I'll take him up'. Got to the top of the third floor and thought 'What a funny smell, the neighbours must be having a bonfire.' Walked into our room to see plumes of smoke coming off our mattress because the bedside lamp was laying face down on the bed, switched on with the bulb burning a big hole in it!

I picked it up and thankfully it all stopped smouldering, but now we have a large black crater in our mattress. My heart was nearly in arrest - if Levi hadn't fussed and I'd have waited another five minutes more.....if I hadn't stripped down the bed that morning then it would have gone onto the duvet and gone up quicker.....all the kids were in the room next door and we haven't tested the fire alarms since we moved in. Obviously, there were some very stern words had with the guilty parties!!

HarrogateMum · 16/05/2008 10:59

oh blimey Estar - how scary.........

I have emailed you back by the way re tomorrow.

shabster · 16/05/2008 10:59

Estar - OMG - god job your guardian angel was around. How scary...hope your heart has almost stopped pounding as fast as it must have been last night

Oh Rubes,that was nothing......

Now you want to see foot in mouth moments take a few minutes to look back over Tiggers first couple of months weeks....

Right lets start with the day I decided to tell some on the Mners what I thought they looked like.........

Neenztwinz · 16/05/2008 12:03

Hi all! Just checking in to say how amazing is it to be a mum of multiples? I am loving it - everyone just thinks my DTs are amazing. Cos they are

They are 10 days old now and doing really well, the feeding is going great. The only problem we have is that Theo has spent the last four nights pretty much constantly feeding for a three=hour stretch in the early hours.

The first night it was 12-3am that he just fed and fed and wouldn't settle, then the night after it was 11.30-2.30am, then it was 12.30-3.30am (when at least I got an hour's kip before he started). He always goes off eventually and will then sleep for three hours.

So I wondered whether he was getting enough to eat during the day. He had been feeding every three hours (though not demanding most of the time) so yesterday I put him on the breast every 2.5hrs. He was happy to go on and fed well. I also expressed just over an ounce thinking I could give him that if he was fractious in the night (thinking maybe my milk was low in the night).

We felt very smug then when he slept from 11pm-2am (thanks to the extra feeds during the day?). DH then gave him the bottle of expressed milk while I fed esther. But then Esther was restless till 4am and Theo didn't go back to sleep till 5am!

Is there anything we can do about this or is this just to be expected?

Today I am going to feed them every two hours, and express 2oz each so DH can give them that at 11pm and I can go to bed at 9pm so at least I will hopefully get four or five hours sleep. Any other suggestions?

shabster · 16/05/2008 12:15

Rubester - you, my mate, are a complete nutter

Tiggs - I remember not giving Mars any respect whatsoever - in fact calling her Tallulah Doolah - for the first few days I was on here. Trips almost fainted with my childish behaviour BUT I brought a note in from my mam explaining how I was special and we seem ok now!!

shabster · 16/05/2008 12:16

Neenz - you are doing brill my darling.

As the mother of a 10yr old who is still a rubbish sleeper I have no advice whatsoever....sorry

You're doing great Neenz. Just bed down and rest where you can. It will settle. Try not to over express and allow your milk supply to build. I think that you're doing brilliantly and remember even bfing a singleton is tiring in the early days. Very very proud of you. Keep up the good work and go with the flow. It does get easier!

Pixi... so sorry for your loss. Give MrPixi a big kiss and shake some tassles for me.

HM... and a big kiss and tassle shake to your DH as well. I'm sorry that you have to travel in sadness and will think of you.

Head still hurting so am back off to bed. Details are on the thread I started yesterday "So now I have fecking stitches in my head". Hard to read through thread as it hurts but I'm fine. Just need my client that's due to wait another week and the 2 others who are due much after her to stop having problems and hold on for another fortnight. Sigh.......

Okay I've gone I've gone!

And YES I was wearing my red f*ck me shoes. Apparently when I came round I was obssessing over their whereabouts!

Ok...ok... gone!

Momma, someone needs your help here.

Honestly Mars, some people will do anything to get out of coming to a meet-up . Hope the head feels better soon.

HarrogateMum · 16/05/2008 16:20

Ha - tkb - knowing Mars she will probably wake up full of beans tomorrow and turn up anyway!
