Morning all! Not been on for two days and theres a whole new thread!!!!

Valentines Day in the HM household consisted of DH in the morning grunting that my card was downstairs on the table if I wanted to get it.......it did improve though, had a bottle of champers and some nice rump steaks that I bought from an organic farm at lunchtime near work (just trying to out-do Momma on the poshness factor).

Then had an alcohol fuelled argument and I stomped off to bed. Hey ho!

HarrogateMum · 15/02/2008 09:53

PS Shabs - you will have to be my fwend on Facebook if you want to see my photos, I took them off here as I was worried about someone working out who I was!

HarrogateMum · 15/02/2008 10:46

have I offended anyone?

Where are you all?

YOu cant all be looking after kids, surely?

Right then, fine. I will just talk to myself.

Or I could go and play with the kids I guess.

chopster · 15/02/2008 10:54

Overrun · 15/02/2008 13:14

I wont ask what thread, as it is obviously a sore subject. Hope people are feeling okay today.
Its the last day of half term here, and dh is off, because I had to take dts to see a speech therapist, and ds1 kept us awake all night with his ear ache, so dh had to take him to the dr.
Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and he will have a better night tonight.

Have any of you little ones seen a speech therapist? It looks like I am going to be taking them for quite some time, as the assessment didn't exactly go well, on a positive note, we are being fast tracked as they are considered urgent.

HarrogateMum · 15/02/2008 13:26

Shabster - are you putting a space in or anything? I just tried it and it was the top one of 5 groups with 729 members.

Overrun how old are your DTs? Sorry if I've missed something from beforehand - what was the reason why you went ot the speech therapist in the first place? I have never taken mine but had considered it may be necessary at one point as DT2 was so far behind DT1 in terms of speech about a year ago. This has now totally changed and infact it is probably more like the other way round.

estar · 15/02/2008 13:27

AHEM tip of the day AHEM

Ah thankyou.

Overrun · 15/02/2008 13:30

HI HM, nice to hear from you They are 3.3, and I took them because they are both quite difficult to understand within the family, and outsiders find it even harder.
I wasn't expecting her to think that dt1 was such a severe case as I thought he muffled some sounds possibly due to hearing problems, which is a problem that his big brother has.
But she stressed the severity of both their cases and said they were very unusual. So feel all worried now, couldn't really get her to expand on this.
I think they are both very intelligent and sociable children, so don't know what they issue is.
She said it wasn't anything that we had done or not done, but still...

HarrogateMum · 15/02/2008 13:33

Estar - what are you ranting on about? Link please???

Overrun, same age as mine, born Nov 2004. I wouldnt worry until you have been to see the speech therapist and certainly dont worry that it is something you have done!! Do they go to any kind of childcare like nursery or anything where they talk to other kids their own age?

Overrun · 15/02/2008 13:36

HM, yes they go to nursery three times a week, I knew that they would need some input, but after this initial assessment (this morning) I am a bit shocked by how seriously they seem to be taking it. When there are waiting lists you always want to be seen sooner, but when you are told that your children are not at the top of the queue and urgent cases, as nice as the lack of a wait is, its a bit worrying!

HarrogateMum · 15/02/2008 13:37

what do the nursery say, do they find them easy enough to understand?

HarrogateMum · 15/02/2008 13:38

sorry overrun, I just re-read one of your posts and realised you have already been to see the ST.

Overrun · 15/02/2008 13:41

The nursery find dt2 difficult to understand, but not dt2. I think my shock is mainly to do with dt1, as I felt he was going to be a simple enough case of mis saying a few sounds, like eg he says "Med" when he means "Red", and Worry instead of Sorry. But she almost seemed more concerned about him than dt2, who inserts this guttaral sound into his speech.
I guess I was just a bit thrown by it all, and I will have to get used to it. There was also a small part of me, hoping that I wouldn't have to take all of them, as practically its hard having so many appts for them all.
Who knows?

estar · 15/02/2008 13:49

Overrun Ds1 was in and out of speech therapy for a year for piggin nothing - got better by himself, and I never saw what the problem was. So I put off taking dt2 who is way behind until we moved here.....what I didn't realise was that the move to Morecambe was going to take months and months and when he finally got on the waiting list, its a 43 week wait!! And I guarentee there will be loads of other kids on it that don't really have a problem. Professionals are so wierd when it comes to kids. Ds1 is seeing the SENCO at school because he has problems with his balance . We've never noticed anything at all!

And tip of the day - look at the MN home page (its me, its me, its me!)

estar · 15/02/2008 13:50

And girls anytime someone utters the dreaded 'you've got your hands full', I totally take it as a compliment. Yes, you're right, it is hard work, but look I'm getting through it!
