Spotting at 6 weeks

Hi all. I have been intermittent spotting for the last 10 days. It's very light, only when I wipe, mostly pink tinted mucus. I was referred for a scan at epu and told it's twins. Any other mums of twins/ multiples experienced spotting during first few weeks of pregnancy? Looking for reassurance

Hi @Betseyrov - congratulations on your twin pregnancy!

I had a very similar experience last year at the beginning of my pregnancy - bleeding at 7 weeks, scan at epu showing it was twins. Had some more bleeding at 9 weeks but scan was completely fine - no reason for the bleeding that they could find!

I'm now 32+2 with DCDA twin girls and getting ready to start maternity leave!

Hoping all goes well for you Thanks

hwp22 · 02/02/2022 14:26

Hiya - yes I had this - a light bleed at 6w5d and after 2 previous losses I was worried sick…scan at EPAU a few days later was a HUGE shock as was told there are 2 babies!!! 💖 but thankfully all was OK
and the bleeding stopped - I’m now 25 weeks 🙂 xx

Betseyrov · 02/02/2022 14:49

@hwp22 @LydiaAW thank you for your replies. I'm still freaking out as I'm still spotting today, and it's increasing. Now it's been going on every day since monday, and I started on and off over 10 days ago. I rang my gp but she doesn't want to do anything. I dont know if there's any point ringing epu as they saw me yesterday. Would progesterone stop the spotting? Would they not run blood test to check my levels? I feel in limbo, I have my next scan in 9 days and dont know how I'm going to wait that long as I'm extremely worried I'm heading for a miscarriage

I also had spotting in my twin pregnancy from around 4-14 weeks. I would say I had something every week, maybe not every day.

The twins were absolutely fine and are now 9 months old. I read somewhere that spotting is more common in twin pregnancies.

LydiaAW · 11/02/2022 20:53

@Betseyrov hey OP - just checking in to see if you're okay?

I'm not very technical with bloods and hormones - they never spoke to me about that!

Been thinking about you x

Betseyrov · 11/02/2022 22:50

@LydiaAW thank you for checking up on me. My scan went well and saw two heartbeats. I'm still spotting on and off, but the sonographer told me to stop worrying and that it's quite common in pregnancy. I was examined by a consultant who noticed my cervix is a bit irritated and they think that's causing the spotting. I'm getting used to the used I might spot throughout my whole pregnancy. How are you doing? When do you start mat leave? What is it like to be 33 weeks with twins? I hope you're not too uncomfortable

My twins are almost 10 weeks now but I had spotting on and off, I also had bleeds at 8 weeks and 14 weeks. It was a stressful pregnancy I won’t lie, I’d lost my little boy at 18 weeks just before falling pregnant with the twins and that coupled with the spotting/bleeding I never did relax into it. Thankfully the twins made it safe and sound and we’re born at 37+1 and I’m a very lucky mamma.

I’m glad your scan has gone well, try not to worry too much as bleeding/spotting can be normal particularly in a twin pregnancy. Wishing you a wonderful and smooth pregnancy.

Morning! This is fabulous news @Betseyrov I'm so happy for you!

I did read somewhere that twin pregnancies have a bit more spotting because we're carrying more weight etc. but wasn't sure how true that was. But glad the sonographer and consultant put your mind at ease. How are you feeling about it all? Has the pregnancy been okay otherwise?

I'm doing ok thank you! I've had anaemia since November so we're just getting that sorted with iron transfusions - so I'm less tired now than I have been. But movement is more difficult with the bump now!!

Mat leave started on Thursday, so far it feels like normal annual leave but I know that will change! For now me and the DH are rapidly getting the house sorted for the twins imminent arrival - I haven't been very prepared...

We have a provisional date for the 10th March for ELCS but I'm pretty much at the hospital every week and we'll see if these twins want to make their own appearance!

Betseyrov · 22/04/2022 12:49

Hi @LydiaAW your babies must be here by now, how's your new life with baby twins?

OP posts:
LydiaAW · 22/04/2022 14:31

@Betseyrov ahh thank you for asking! Yes the girls are hear and will be 7 weeks old tomorrow. Born at 36+5 5lb5 and 5lb 😍

The girls are amazing but it is hard work. However the last 7 weeks have absolutely flown by and they're growing so fast 😭

Had a bit of a difficult hospital stay but much happier at home. Fortunately no NICU time for the girls but we were in hospital for a week with jaundice!

How are you and how is the pregnancy going??

Betseyrov · 22/04/2022 18:08

@LydiaAW congratulations! I'm so happy to read that the girls are doing great and didnt need NICU time. Sorry to hear about the jaundice though. Wow 7 weeks already. Fo you feel like you're starting to fall into a routine?
I'm doing ok, 18 weeks. No more bleeding since week 10 but still scared every time I go to the toilet 😔. I'm having some abdominal pain today, don't know if it's my stomach hurting or my belly growing. I'm trying to take it easy and rest as much as I can

OP posts:
LydiaAW · 22/04/2022 19:53

@Betseyrov thank you so much!! It's a bit of a blur. We're trying to get into some sort of routine but they're so little I don't think it's making a difference 🤣 when they're hungry they feed and despite trying to plan it rarely goes that way at the moment! But my husband and I are trying to work some things out so he can help in between working. Some days we just have to laugh

I'm so glad to hear no bleeding. I know the feeling though, I would get nervous every time I went to the toilet that I would see blood but it never happened again. You must be getting excited for your 20 week scan now?

Oh I got pains all the time - I felt massive already by 18 weeks 😅

Betseyrov · 22/04/2022 23:13

@LydiaAW Sounds like you're doing a fab job and coping really well! How are you finding the recovery from giving birth?
Oh yes I cant wait to have my 20 week scan and find out what I'm having. I have a feeling it's one of each.
It's reassuring to know pains are normal. I imagine everything is stretching twice as much and all the organs are getting pushed and squashed eeek 😂 I cant imagine what it will be like towards the end 😱
Did your girls arrived before the scheduled csection?

OP posts:
LydiaAW · 23/04/2022 12:38

@Betseyrov 😅 it's a day by day thing. Some days I definitely feel completely overwhelmed but other days I'm like I got this..

Recovery was ok.. I had a few problems before the birth so they came at 36+5 rather than 37+4. Because I was in for 6 days afterwards I had to do the nights solo with the girls. So despite being told not to twist/lift etc. it wasn't feasible. I took all the painkillers that I was offered and that managed the pain quite well. Being home felt dreamy in comparison. And then I took it easy with gentle walks and my husband passes me the girls at night when they wanted to feed which helped. Sorry for the sleep deprived babble!!

Ooo that's so exciting! It was one of my favourite scans to finding out.

Seriously, everything hurt with this pregnancy 🤣 my lungs were so happy to be back to normal once they were out!!

Betseyrov · 13/01/2023 12:49

I thought I would update this thread, in case someone is going through the same thing and looking for reassurance. I spotted on and off until week 10 and then it stopped. I made it to 37 weeks and gave birth to 2 gorgeous boys 💙💙

@LydiaAW how are you doing? Your girls must be nearly one year old by now! How did you survive the first year as a twin mum? 😊

This is amazing news 😍 congratulations! How are are the boys now? How are you doing?

Yes the girls are 10months! Lots of ups and downs (and comparisons to singletons) but I love them and it's mostly been a lot of fun! We've literally just done our first long haul flight and they've been amazing! Xxx

Betseyrov · 14/01/2023 14:31

@LydiaAW oh wow that's impressive, they're so good! And you seem very adventurous, I hope you enjoy your holiday! The boys are doing well. They're nearly 5 months now and so big. The beginning was very hard but I got them to sleep and eat at the same time from the very beginning which made things much more manageable. I'm good too although still catching up on my sleep xxx

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me butting in. I was trying to find info on twin pregnancies and early testing. I'm curious if you noticed a darker line when you first found out you were pregnant than what you'd usually find in test for a single pregnancy?

I recently found out I was pregnant at 12DPO and the line was much darker than I usually see from pics people post here, despite it being a cheapie. I know hcg levels vary from woman to woman but I'm curious if this could be a sign of twins. Have twin mamas noticed darker lines and higher hcg levels on their tests?

TheMagicDeckchair · 11/02/2023 18:22

Not for me. The line progression was exactly what I’d expect in a healthy singleton pregnancy. My morning sickness was stronger than my first singleton pregnancy but I didn’t suspect twins until I found out on my first scan at 10+5.

Betseyrov · 21/02/2023 13:05

@LaVitesse2022 it was for me, my first tests were surprisingly dark and I got a even got a positive on a cheap digital at 9 dpo. Have you tried a clear blue to see how many weeks it says? Mine was saying 3+ at 13 dpo

I had really dark lines with my twins at 9DPO.

Hi all,

im 6w 3d pregnant and have had spotting for about 10 days now. I’ve had 2 scans and all ok and babies had heart beats on Tuesday after my first bleed. Had another bleed today and so anxious. It stops after a little while but the sight of red blood is so scary. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I had bright red blood at 12 weeks with my eldest DS. All was fine and they said it's more common than we are lead to believe. They couldn't find a reason for it. It was just one of those things.
My sister had it with her youngest DS I can't remember exactly what it was but they said in her womb there was a bruise type thing. I'm sure that's what they said but it can cause on/off bleeding but it was in no way concerning or damaging to her DS.

Of course, not medical so keep getting checked if you feel anxious x

Sar1990 · 31/03/2023 07:59

Thank you so much. So far the hospital just say it is normal and they are ‘burrowing’ in but the fear never goes away!
