Our twins have arrived!

Several of you have given me and DW (currently hospitalised) good advice over the past few months, so I thought I'd post to say that our twins arrived safely this morning at Chelsea and Westminster.

Both healthy (and with powerful lungs) with weights 5lbs 0oz and 7lbs 15 oz.

Mother and babies both doing well, expected home at the weekend.

Two boys, we think non-identical, because they were di-amniotic. However I think there's a possibility di-amniotic twins are identical, though it seems unilkely in our case as one is 50% bigger than the other!

Anyone know?

Sorry Cali - I'm still a bit freaked out!

Babies were both breech, so delivered by c-section this morning within two minutes of each other. Mother had staggered on to 38 weeks despite enormous bump, pre-eclampsia scares, mother of all backaches etc.

Operation went very well, with mother back on her feet searching for tea by mid-afternoon. Very happy with service from hosp, despite turf war in theatre between anaesthetists and MW!

The mother opposite in the recovery ward had just had triplets, so that stopped us feeling too special...

The twins are our first children. What do we do now?

Congrats both of you. 50% bigger doesn't mean non identical. God daughter was a lot bigger than her twin. They are identical. Sis caught up though so I have trouble telling them apart. Size was the only way I could tell!!! Good luck to you both and and well done mum!

only way to be sure regarding ID is to get them tested.

congratulations! I have a friend with twin boys. She doesn't know if they are identical or not. She doesn't want to get them tested. According to her they are non identical, but according to everyone who sees them, they are identical

Different sizes may mean one placenta was not as efficient as the other. They could be identical - chances are if they have the same colouring they are.

What do you do now ?- hmm - get as much prepared as you can before they all come home - make sure you have nappies clothes etc. Get some meals cooked and in the freezer. If you are back to work soon then try and arrange people to come round to help out - with cuddling, nappy changes, and household chores. And just being there so mum can get some extra sleep!

One really useful thing my dh did when they were tiny was snuggle them on his chest (often at night as well) - that really settled them (and looked so cute !).

Mine were 3lb 13 and 5lb 5 - they look so tiny to begin with

If you can possibly afford it (even if just for a few weeks), i'd suggest getting a cleaner in when you go back to work.

Mine didn't look that much alike me when they were born and it still hasn't been 100% confirmed that they are ID, but I still can't tell which is crying when I can't see them and with hats on I have to look very closely.

Thanks all for your best wishes.

Just back from hosp so quick update. Both twins and mum still doing well, the tiny twin in particular feeding for England on any bit of colostrum going and presumably trying to make up for lost time.

They seem to cry a lot, which I guess is normal, but seem to calm down if they get just a cuddle, don't know whether that's normal too.

Felt mobbed by friends and relatives today, so have decided to impose strict visiting times.

Expecting to be taking them home Saturday, will post any further updates here
