Twin Prams - any recommendations?

Hi there

Does anyone have any great tips for twin prams? I have a two year old son and the twins are due mid Sept-early Oct so need to order a new pram soon. I live in London so ideally don't want something too wide or too long but am not yet sure whether I want a side-by-side or a one-in-front-of-the-other style pram. Also will need to be able to fit a buggy board and be as light as possible and preferably easily foldable. Sounds like the search for the Holy Grail, doesn't it . . .

Many thanks!

first wheels Twin elite?

have been looking at the 'othello' but haven't ever seen one about, or heard anything on them - but they seem to be the smallest/lightest on the market

Meeely2 · 17/07/2007 11:33

Jane powertwin doesn't fit a buggy board as i understand it - anyone know for sure? Twin Two is a good one i think. for lightness instep nipper, but not sure about buggy board on that either, would not recommend maclaren techno (vvvv heavy), would suggest anything with big proper wheels - easier to push as they get bigger.

nearlythere · 17/07/2007 11:42

skirmish- with the othello read "small and light" as flimsy and easily damaged!!! Its a nice idea but just not quite there!

Twin Two is pricy but worth it it the long run, i loved my Bertini Twin Pram, Emmaljunga still do a similar one as do babystyle if you want a traditional proper pram.

Hi,

Sorry not to have replied before now, internet connection has been down! Thanks vv much for info, have to say the Maclaren does look rather heavy with tiny wheels. Will look into all your suggestions - thanks very much indeed!

Hello All,

The Nipper, made by outnabout.

It is lighter than most double buggies, it is a three wheeler side-by-side and also has a brake.

It is design to fit into any doorway designed for a wheelchair. It is slimmer than most double buggies.

I had a sport Duo Graco, and this blew it away...fantastic peice of equipment.

Nicx

jane 'twin 2' tandem. brill.
i, personally, will never go for a side by side again.

katewithtwins · 01/08/2007 21:49

I would thoroughly recommend the "outnabout" double nipper 360. It is light, easy to put up/ down and gets into my (Honda civic) boot without any bits being removed. I go running with mine, it is good for rough paths as it has tyres and suspension, plus fits through most doorways and is very manouverable for town use.

iangarethreeves · 15/10/2007 20:53

i've got the jane twin two as well,
recommend it a lot, we were gifted a used side by side by a friend, but the jane gets used, the side by side doesn't.
It is much better for getting into shops, even small corner shops are possible, the turning circle is very small.
it is pretty light and relatively compact, the cost is steep but we use every day, and it makes such a difference having something so good.
the four wheels make it more stable; a friend has the powertwin which is slightly lighter but not as stable.
we use the matrix pro and rebel pro car seats to clip in which are excellent, different strengths to each, can supply more details of those on request as we have done a direct comparison over tha last three months!

Would also recommend the Jane Powertwin. I have been though 6 buggies with my twins and overall it is definitely the best!

outinthesticksmummy · 09/12/2007 18:01

Drovette · 09/01/2008 23:20

Hello all. Does anyone know of any twin buggies that can take two infant carriers as well as converting into a buggy? I know about the Jane Twin Two thingy, which appears to do this, but are there any others?
Thanks!

millie1 · 10/01/2008 20:15

I've been making same enquiries ... think iCandy Pear might be the only one (both the Jane Twin Two and Jane PowerTwin take the Jane rebel carseat). I e-mailed Maxi-Cosi yesterday to see whether they knew of any twin prams/buggies which take the Maxi-Cosi infant seat and they responded to say that the only double they are aware of is the iCandy Pear.

I'm not much use!!

Drovette · 10/01/2008 21:28

Thanks, Millie1; that one looks absolutely brilliant, and even better that it takes the maxi-cosi infant carrier as I already have one of those! It appears to cost around £470, which is much less than £700 ish for the complete Jane Twin Two set. Thanks very much for the info! I've only just begun to post messages on here - how about you? I guess you are also expecting twins??

millie1 · 10/01/2008 21:41

Hi Drovette ... yes, I'm also expecting twins ... I think I've seen you posting on one of the other threads - you might be a few weeks ahead of me. I'm 19w and feel absolutely enormous ... people keep telling me it's all bump but I just keep thinking it's too much bump for 19w!!

Do a search in the iCandy Pear - hang on, I'll see if I can find it for you - cos someone had looked at it and as far as I recollect they thought the seats are pretty small.

Happy reading ... keep me posted as to what you decide! We're waiting for our local baby shop to get Jane's into stock in February so as we can have a play. Decisions, decisions!

MrsFogi · 11/01/2008 20:10

I'm selling my iCandy pear if anyone's interested - it's on the for sale board.

millie1 · 13/01/2008 22:33

Something which just occurred to me ... with a twin pram such as the Jane Powertwin or the other Jane pram ... when you fold it do you have to detach the seats? If so, how on earth do you fit everything into your boot - esp if it's a people carrier which doesn't have much space. Can someone please enlighten me?!

Drovette · 15/01/2008 16:04

Hi Millie1. Thanks for all your threads! I have seen a demo of the Jane thing on the internet and you don't have to remove the seats, except if you were using the infant carriers - of course, you would need them off anyway! But when it's in pushchair mode, the whole thing just folds up in one go. Brilliant I thought. Let me see if I can work out how to put a link on here for you......back in a few mins!!

millie1 · 15/01/2008 16:59

Thanks Drovette ... I was looking for a demo but couldn't find one so if you can - great. Reassuring anyway. What are you leaning towards now? I'd like to look at the iCandy alongside the Jane just to compare and also cos the iCandy takes Maxi-Cosi car seats which seem to have a good reputation.

Drovette · 15/01/2008 20:10

Hello again, try this, and go to "view movie" and hopefully you will see the demo that I've seen. I thought it was really helpful - and extremely thorough; almost too thorough!www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_45_10751_-1__4160_10001_#video

Let me know how you get on!
