So recently found out me and my OH are expecting twins early January! Total shock they will be our first.
Just wondered if anyone wanted to share the journey! Would be nice to have someone to chat to along the way! :)

It looks like a rubber donut thing they use to keep your cervix shut to avoid premature labour. I will try and find something online because they gave me paper information and I've lost it 🙈
I think it's most beneficial if you have a short cervix, I just think it looks a bit...big!

www.hra.nhs.uk/news/research-summaries/arabin-pessary-in-women-with-twin-pregnancy-pilot/

Maybe it's because I'm up north, it's a university of Edinburgh research study.

dangle90 · 20/08/2017 21:55

I forget your same dating as me cookies! Are you finding out the sex on Tuesday?

Never heard anything like that central are you going to try it?

dangle90 · 20/08/2017 21:55

Chocolate sorry not central x

I don't think so. I had a normal length pregnancy with ds1 so I don't think my cervix is "incompetent". I feel a bit guilty for not helping the research though.

dangle90 · 21/08/2017 09:27

Don't feel guilty, they'l be others, just do what you feel comfortable with. "Incompetent cervix" made me chuckle 😂

I am London so the study seems to be rolled out quite wide across the UK. My husband did lots of research on it and it started in Holland years ago. It looks like the university of Edinburgh has picked it up now. I wouldn't feel guilty, I'm sure they will have loads of participants.
Dangle90, yeah we are going to find out the sexes. Really looking forward to the scan tomorrow! My mum is coming too, it's her first grandchild and she is excited too!

Pisces2 · 21/08/2017 11:35

Dangle I wouldn't worry about BMI, I don't see how it could be accurate at all when you would have been nearly 3 months pregnant with twins at your booking scan. I've heard that Aspirin is good to take after. the first trimester to help prevent preeclampsia. I think I will need to go on it as my risk is high due to blood pressure caused by kidney problems that are mild. The only thing is my fish oil capsules state that I shouldn't take aspirin while on them? So not sure what to do in that regard.

Chocolateshortcake, I haven't heard of the device but it might be worthwhile if it prevents pre-term labour.

Cookies good luck with your scan tomorrow, I'm sure you are excited to find out.

I have my booking appointment tomorrow, I'm so nervous. I hope they are both doing well. I can't settle myself. Did they scan you first and then go through all the health related questions? Also did you tell people after the booking appointment. When did you tell your boss?

All the best xo

Backtoblack1 · 21/08/2017 11:40

I had IVF b/g twins. They are now 10! It's a hard slog when they are newborns but so worth it. Congratulations x

salsasalsa · 21/08/2017 15:10

Hi guys, I know some of you are around the same timings as me, just wondering if anyone's had their 20 week scan?

Mines tomorrow 20+3 (although obviously combined with checking all the scary stuff I've got going on) and I'm even more terrified than I normally am because they said it will be longer, obviously full anatomy... what do they check!? I cant cope with anything being wrong with them as well as not knowing if they're going to make it.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. x

Pisces2 · 21/08/2017 17:05

Good luck Salsa, I hope it all goes well. No advice on the 20 week scan as this is my first pregnancy. Thank you for your kind comments in an earlier post as well xo

justmycupoftea · 21/08/2017 17:41

We found out on Friday that I am pregnant with twins. Due date 15th Feb. Have been stupidly excited since!! First pregnancy and have been horrendously sick since 5+3, so much so I lost a stone in 3 weeks. Still being sick but no where near as bad. Exhausted though and have to have a nap most days. Think our twins are DCDA(?) as they each have their own placenta. Great to read all the advice in here. Thankfully our house will accommodate two babies and we bought a larger estate car as soon as we found out we were expecting. Will be great to read all of your advice

dangle90 · 21/08/2017 19:06

Good luck salsa! I couldn't advise as my 20 week scan isn't until weds so not really sure what they check but I hope it all goes well for you.

Hi mycupoftea! Welcome and congrats! Sounds like your all set up!

I'm not sure about that either Pisces? Maybe ask your MW?? Yeah I got told by the consultant it's to reduce risk of pre eclampsia but no one I've mentioned it to has heard of taking it.

Is anyone else looking forward to someone saying "gosh is there twins in there" and you being able to say "yes actually" 😂 random I know but I've heard it annoys pregnant women 😂

chocolateshortcake · 21/08/2017 21:01

I had my 20 week scan today!! All good in there. One is about a week smaller than the other but that's not enough to be a worry apparently. The bigger one is a boy and the other one is unknown as it was wriggling so much it would not show us between the legs at all!!

chocolateshortcake · 21/08/2017 21:03

Oh and re aspirin @dangle nobody has mentioned it to me but I couldn't take it anyway as it makes me sick Sad

dangle90 · 21/08/2017 21:15

Awww brilliant chocolate! How are
You feeling? Shame you couldn't tell both sexes :( do you have a 28 week scan booked?

fullofwonder · 21/08/2017 21:19

Hey - would love to join you all. I'm 13 weeks pregnant with identical twins due February. Had dating scan today, which was pretty incredible. I have a 4.5 year old DS and he was able to come in and see his siblings on the scream - made my heart melt!!
All very exciting but equally daunting!

Pisces2 · 21/08/2017 21:24

Congrats justmycupofteaSmile We have a a small car so we have to get something bigger too.

Glad your scan went well chocolate shortcake

HeartburnCentral · 21/08/2017 22:32

Pisces AFAIK the anomaly scan checks everything in detail -checking all organs are functioning, chambers of the heart, check for fetal abnormalities and possible genetic conditions, check exact measurements for gestation. I got my date for October. We would prefer to be prepared if anything showed up. Fx, everything will be fine.

Congratulations on your scan Chocolate what wonderful news.

Welcome justmycupoftea we're due dcda twins the same day! Smile I have an hospital appointment this week so hoping to get a scan to see our dts again. We need to buy a bigger car too Smile

chocolateshortcake · 22/08/2017 08:29

I have scans booked every 4 weeks until 36 weeks now :) so we will try again in four weeks time!!

Pisces2 · 25/08/2017 16:09

Hi everyone my scan went well. I seen both babies move and kick. It was so fantastic.
I was at the clinic for three hours. My blood pressure was high, probably because I was so anxious, warm and hungry. The next day I had to go to the twin clinic and get scanned all over again. I was there for another 2 hours. Thankfully my blood pressure wasn't as high. The sonographer was looking at the thigh bones, hands, feet, the head and meaurements of both. They didn't mention nuchal translucency? Did anyone else have this checked? The sonographer keep wiggling the wand forcefully over my stomach to try and get one of the twins to move. I eventually felt so uncomfortable that I had to use the loo. When I came back they had moved. Thank goodness. I have to take aspirin everyday as well. My next scan is at week 16. How is everyone else?

thecookies · 25/08/2017 23:49

Hello Backtoblack1, justmycupoftea and fullofwonder!
Reading this thread is the first time I have heard about aspirin. I am now 20+4 and no midwives have told me before now! At my appointment on Tuesday the midwife said there's no point me taking it now as I don't need it now.
Pisces 2, I am IVF so I told my employers from the start. At 20 weeks you get your MATB1 certificate to give to your employers so you are entitled to maternity leave. I guess that could be a good time to tell them if you're not ready at 12 weeks.
Salsasalsa, how did your scan go?
Chocolateshortcake, glad to hear yours are healthy, sounds like you will have another surprise to look forward to at your next scan when you discover the other gender!
We found out we are having 2 boys! They were both healthy and one is more laid back whilst the other wriggled constantly! I was a little anxious as I wasn't sure if they had moved but I have felt them since, so pleased.

I was spoken to again about the Arabin pessary for the study trial (to see if it can prevent premature labour). I did have it but got it removed a few days later as it was just too uncomfortable unfortunately. If anyone is approached about it please be aware that they recommend you don't have sex (as you have a short cervix) or orgasm! They failed to mention this to me until AFTER they put it in!
Anyway, we have our 4D scan next week and looking forward to seeing a video of them moving around. If anyone else is thinking of getting one then for multiples they recommend between 20-26 weeks.

NewChip · 31/08/2017 14:44

Hi fellow twin mummies to be.
I've been looking at monitors for the babies. I used a angel mat sensor for my DS who's now 5 but you can't use them for twins if they do sleep so I've found one called respisense which goes on each baby and monitors their breathing. Has anyone else looked into this, what are your thoughts?

moggle · 02/09/2017 07:49

NewChip sorry it's not something I've looked at, we didn't have one for DD and I doubt we'll get one for the DTs unless it's recommended by a doctor eg if they're premature etc.
Hi cupoftea and fullofwonder!!
Good news on your scan pisces hope it continues that way.
We're mainly continuing to pick up second hand equipment from kind friends and eBay, we got a second cabriofix and base from a work colleague of DH for free. I've got two Phil and teds soft carrycots for the buggy. Other job is decluttering the spare room for the twins, it's a big job and we're always too tired in the evenings to do it. Deadline for emptying it is mid October as we have some guests then... then we need to get the room redecorated and recarpeted and a sofa bed bought before guests come again a month later.... then turning DD bedroom into a big girls room so we can reclaim the cot and some of the nursery furniture.

I can feel the babies move quite a bit now and sometimes I think i can feel where their heads are as my bump feels tender in a couple of moveable places. But thenthink they must be too small still!
