Hello all!

I went for a scan this morning and I am 8 weeks pregnant with TWINS! I suffered a moment of disbelief before immense excitement and joy.

I did fall pregnant sort of "accidentally" as I had stupidly assumed I wouldn't get pregnant as I haven't had a period since having my daughter (who is only just 5 months old!!) and am breast feeding.

How will I cope with a 1yr old and twins?! EEEEEEEEEEEEK!

I'm so excited but at the same time slightly panicky!!

I just wanted to share, and get any helpful tips you lovely lot may have! My DP looked astounded when we were told, lol. My Mum started to cry (in a good way I think!)

Congratulations :)

BrassicaBabe · 08/04/2011 14:28

Yep, I remember that feeling Grin Congratulations! I found it sunk in to my conciousness in waves.

HappyAsASandboy · 08/04/2011 16:39

Congratulation! I'm sure you'll cope, as long as you can live chaotically or have the discipline needed to get them all in a routine.

Good luck Grin

JanMorrow · 08/04/2011 17:27

Discipline.. right, HA.. oh god!! faints

Congratulations - twins are fab! We're in the slightly panicky' camp too tho our twins have just turned one this week & I am ~9wks pg (and assuming only one....). I'd say we already <span class="line-through">go with the flow' live chaotically Grin

How wonderful! Hope you continue to breastfeed your DD (tandem feeding is lovely).

Top tips for pregnancy... eat and drink and rest well where you can.
Don't listen to twin horror stories. There are far too many of them but compared to the joyous twin stories... they are a nothing. Twins are amazing and many many congratulations on your twin pregnancy.

That's it for now. Exciting times. Smile

PrincessScrumpy · 09/04/2011 20:58

Congratulations! We found out 10 weeks ago and have just about stopped laughing histerically. Very excited now and just want to race through pregnancy and meet them.

harrygracejessica · 09/04/2011 23:05

I had 15 months between DS and then twins, I needed a routine but it was fab. The girls are now 2 and DS just turned 4 and im 35 weeks wit more twins :)

JanMorrow · 11/04/2011 15:08

Oo Harry, congrats! You do all inspire hope that I won't fall apart on the first night home! DP is very hands on and helpful too so it'll be a proper group effort.

I will of course try and continue breast feeding DD as long as possible, I'll just sit there like a cow and have them attached to me on a rotating basis! lol..

ah no I'm sort of looking forward to it whilst being scared shitless at the same time!

The majority of the people sharing the horror stories don't have twins. Thank God!

Just welcome the blessing. It will pay dividends.

holidays2010 · 13/04/2011 11:36

Congrats Jan, let me agree with not listening to the horror stories. i was constantly told how hard id find it and one twin mum even told me its the hardest thing shes ever done..my boys are now 1month old and im finding it fine & ive got DD 5 to look after. i dont have a hands on hubby + he works away from home so im doing this alone.
So basically if i can do it im sure you can!
Do try bfing - i tandem feed mine, just make sure you have a comfy sofa! ;)

Rugbylovingmum · 13/04/2011 12:37

Congratulations!!! GrinGrinGrin How exciting!

I have no experience of twins myself but am just back from visiting my friends, my godson (4) and their twin girls (8 weeks) for the weekend and it was a very relaxing break. My friend spent most of her pregnancy panicking but has found it way easier than she expected with the three of them. The girls are beautiful and are happy to sit next to each other cooing away for hours until ready for a feed. I'm sure you'll have tough times like all parents but you'll have 3 cuddly little bundles of joy to make up for it Grin.

JanMorrow · 13/04/2011 14:57

Smile Thanks everyone! I've not told anyone in real life apart from our immediate families because it's still before the magic 12 weeks so this is a good outlet for excitement/fear!

Jan you should join the twins club in the antenatal section, and if you want to chat to mums who have already had their twins, theres at least two twin clubs in this (multiple births) section. :)

littleowls · 15/04/2011 22:32

Congratulations Jan! I found out that we are having twins last week too. I have a DS who will be 18 months in Oct when they are due. It's good to know we're not alone in having a toddler+twins combo and there are others out there that have managed and are still sane! xx

xkatyx · 24/05/2011 18:12

Hi jan just woundering how u are? i just found out today im having twins and also have a 4 month old AND 2older dc ahhhhhh

JanMorrow · 01/06/2011 15:23

Hi! Good to hear someone is in the same boat (or an even heavier boat with older kids too!). I'm great thanks! How are things with you?

I'm nearly 16 weeks pregnant and have already got a belly going on, the reality has definately set in! I've been lucky with sickness and the like though so apart from being tired (which I have been because of my daughter anyway!) I'm physically very well! I am being scanned every 2 weeks so I have been able to keep a bit of an eye on them! I'm told they're non ID..

We have told all our friends etc who are all really excited and we have started thinking up names etc.. we're not finding out the sex's so will have to have a few different combos ready!

Reality is starting to set in though, I was looking at triple buggies the other day.. TRIPLE.. god knows how I'll get on the bus!!

OP posts:
xkatyx · 01/06/2011 18:30

God triple buggies scare me but I best get over that lol

I'm feeling good funny enough sickness isn't as bad as when I had single babies so all good.

I don't think I will ever be able to leave the house lol let alone get on a bus boo hoo

JanMorrow · 06/07/2011 18:12

Hi Katy, I was wondering how you were!

I'm nearly 21 weeks now and looking kind of huge already! All is well with the babies and I'm starting to get super excited but increasingly nervous. My daughter (now 8 months) takes up most of my time and I can't begin to think about how we will cope with her at 12months (give or take a few weeks) and two new borns.. People say we will just cope and muddle through etc but how? HOW? Gulp.

I don't want to "neglect" my daughter when the twins arrive so it's all going to take some doing..

Does anyone have much advice about reasurring an older baby when most of their parents' attention is stolen by two little usurpers?! Obviously I will try and set aside some one on one time with her (when a helpful aunty or Granny will assist!) and I will try to continue some breastfeeding with her..

Hi Jan I had id twins girls in Jan. I already had a ds who wasn't yet 13 months when the girls arrived. My biggest relief is that I didn't spend the 9 months of pregnancy worrying how we would cope because it has been fine. The reality is that although my ds obviously knew things had changed hugely he didn't understand what was going on ( he does now !!) My husband and parents totally focused on him for the first while when I came home and I was taken up with feeding and minding the babies. I used make sure I gave him even 20 mins just me and no babies around at all in the first few weeks. I felt really bad for my ds as he was used to having me all to himself all of the time. However once we got to 2 or 3 months in I found I had plenty of time for everyone and we are now back like before. My biggest tip would be to have the downstairs of your house baby proofed as much as possible so that when you are feeding etc your other child can safely potter around without you wondering are they ok. The twins are a delight now sleeping all night since 3 months old and I wouldn't change anything for the world. Feel free to pm me if you have any specific queries

mercades1999 · 01/08/2011 08:57
