PREMIUM BONDS MAY/JUNE 2026

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2026 13:19

PB have been about since 1957
Been 30yrs (April 2024) since a million was then the highest prize

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win every purchase - years ago you could buy £1 at a time.

Odds of winning £1 million on Premium Bonds at face value with £25 bonds are

1 in 2,737,857,636 - but 2 people have to win it every month so ……

To win anything odds are 1 in 23000

So providing you have more than £100 you have better odds winning something from pb than winning the lottery 😄

And obviously far better than the lottery - you don’t lose your stake !!!!!!

https://www.saga.co.uk/money-news/premium-bonds

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if winnings take over FH /want winnings in bank account
More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to then hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!! Or in fact any prize

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 holding win a million (March 25) also a £100 holding win £100k and £50 win £25k and even £1 won £10k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /few thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two or even longer

PB odds calculator below

https://pbprizes.com/calculator/

shows the interest rate of the winnings - obv anything over 3.30% is good as if in an account you wouid be taxed so be more like 3%

In August 2023, we had the highest 4.65% But it has been steadily falling since, and of April 2026 it’s 3.3 %

The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 1/2300 can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1650 (3.3% interest on £50k)

So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

To work out your own personal % rate
Winnings divided by amount have x 100

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 4% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So anything over 3% in winnings is considered good.

People dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything so that they will def earn x amount of interest

But then lose the what if won a million or £100k

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I

Include these details in the letter:
Current name
Current address
Premium Bond holder number& date of birth

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

There are 2 apps afaik
Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - the app its self works but the showing early often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

Seems the higher the winnings the earlier it shows and can be from 6pm the night before the app shows

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

The two winners of the £1million prizes will be contacted by Agent Million (AM) 😂😂 the day before the first working day of the corresponding month.

There may however be exceptions to this, such as when the first working day of the month is a bank holiday, for example.

So
AM - Day before first working day - Millionaire knock /call

LIST - First day of working month showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

APP - Day after first working day , including weekends - cream app showing all winnings

You can also check to see if have won via this link with your holders number

www.nsandi.com/prize-checker

Hopefully I've covered everything
Good luck one and all 😄

If I won the £1m I would:
Pay off the mortgage.
We’re in our 50s with pensions starting to kick in from 60, so we’d both retire now and use the winnings until then.
Pay Uni for the children so they don’t have loans and for house deposits for them.

I would buy a nicer house than the one we live in (in Northern England so could really upgrade for about £2-300k on top of the value of our current home).

Buy DSis a house.
Buy a small holiday home in the Med.
Take DSis and DM on a cruise.
Take my hobby club on a related holiday.
Cut my hours to even more PT.
Invest the rest towards retirement.

What would people do if they won a million

So much!

Pay off my house.
Max out my S&S ISA, SIPP and PBs.
Complete some home renovations, which need doing.
Go on some special holidays.
Donate a lump sum to my favourite local charity, which is struggling at the moment.

I’ve never understood why they don’t redistribute the pot of prizes. Nobody seriously thinks they’ve got a good chance of winning a million pounds! Better distribution would mean more people buying bonds.

They've got a better chance of winning than if there were no £1M prizes.

Scrapping the £1M prizes in favour of max £100k prizes would mean 103 of this amount instead of 83, or 1035 instead of 835 £10k prizes. Is a 20% chance of a middle level prize really going to encourage more people to buy bonds?

EightSteps · 30/06/2026 13:45

Bjorkdidit · 30/06/2026 13:14

While there aren't any £500k or £200k prizes, there's already 83 £100k prizes, 167 £50k prizes and many thousands/millions of smaller prizes.

Part of the attraction for many is the £1M prizes, so I think they should stay. Perhaps even reduce the middle tier prizes to allow the number of £1M prizes to increase to five.

That might not be a bad idea actually.

HouseHouseHouse7 · 30/06/2026 14:02

I’m mortgage-free.

If I won I’d get my DCs on the property ladder (a £200k deposit each, not the whole lot) and I’d give my stepDCs £30k each.

£5k each to my friends.

£5k to a local cancer charity. £5k to the local hospice. £5k to British Heart Foundation. £5k to the Samaritans. £5k to Water Aid.

£5k to tart up the house, nothing major.

£5k to upgrade my car. I’m uninterested in cars but wild like a newer one.

The rest would allow DP and me to give up work and do voluntary stuff and travel.

With the interest, ongoing, I’d do things like buy coffees/sandwiches for colleagues regularly, ask for the bill when I’m out to lunch with friends, and pay for DCs’ and stepDCs’ subscriptions etc. Little things that make people’s lives easier.

MaybeThisTimeILlbeLucky · 30/06/2026 14:14

Definitely upgrade to a larger house.
Nothing huge mind you at all but something with more than one bathroom and loo! Something with nice enough bedrooms that my DC will want to come back when older and stay and somewhere with a proper eating area
Long haul holiday (never had one )
Top up pensions ( I don't have one!!)
Savings
Buy a decent car ours are so old !
Once all of that is covered i would give some to various people who have really helped me when I needed support at various times in my life
Top up ISA

JugglingMyNuts · 30/06/2026 14:43

I would pay for a decorator and have new flooring throughout the house.

Then lots of holidays.

DH would upgrade his car (I like my old banger)

Feelinglucky2025 · 30/06/2026 14:55

If I won a million I’m not sure if I would extend our house or look for a bigger house that has the things we would like now but don’t have here. Definitely put a large chunk away for our DC. Help out my mum who struggles month to month. I would put a chunk into pensions to make our retirement a little more comfortable later on.

edit to add we would also go on a lovely family holiday

FishPie2 · 30/06/2026 15:13

I would pay someone to come into my house and clear out everything except a few personal bits.Take all the furniture and carpets away and redecorate then I would come back from my Asian holiday and start again, very minimalistic.

bootsroots · 30/06/2026 15:48

Does that service exist @FishPie2? It sounds dreamy!

ForgotMyLoginAgain · 30/06/2026 15:57

I would finally escape the rental trap and be able to buy a home for us.

Never gonna happen but i can dream 🤣

Bimblebombles · 30/06/2026 15:59

If I won a million I'd rent a place nearby for a few months while gutting my own home - redesign it so that it has a better / lighter kitchen and add an extension. Landscape the garden including lots of nice raised beds for growing veg.

Pay off the car and another small debt.

Put 50k away for my DD for when she is older.

Invest the rest of it to pay me an income to support me while I then grow my currently small business.

Overjiggly · 30/06/2026 16:32

If i won a million I already have the money planned out. I would invest for 3 years to grow it a little because two of my friends have struggled to get on the property ladder so I'd want to gift them both a massive deposit.

Then then usual pay our mortgage off a couple of family holidays. Invest some for my DC.

Florabella · 30/06/2026 19:24

I would pay off my mortgage and sort my pitiful pension out. Then I can put a bit aside for each of my kids and treat them to an amazing holiday. I would keep working so that I can then put more of that money to help my children. Then as soon as they have all finished university I would give up most of my work and travel properly. I have given this a lot of thought! 😂

ExitPursuedByABare · 30/06/2026 19:38

I’d just relax.

I’d give up work, have a few bucket list holidays, buy a three bed detached house (£400k) and rent out two rooms. Save and invest £550k. Not gonna happen, but it’s nice to dream 👍

ETA sorry - I didn’t mean to quote anyone.

OublietteBravo · 30/06/2026 20:10

I’d pay off my mortgage, decorate my house, and enjoy knowing that I could quit my job at any point I wanted to (whilst continuing to work so that I could help the DC get on the property ladder in a few years time). I’d probably ask to drop to PT at work and just have a bit more time for spending with friends/family.

SwedishEdith · 30/06/2026 20:16

I would also pay kids' student loans. Give them the same start to adult life that I had.

New cars for us all (newest between us is 14 years old). Nothing flash, just reliable EVs.

I like the get all rooms empty and redecorated then choose what you still really want or replace idea.

Finish working.

Not sure what would be left after that but a few bigger trips/bucket list train journeys type thing.

Dearover · 30/06/2026 20:49

Do you think Serena Williams would accept a payment to give me the chance to play just one match with a guaranteed 6-0 6-0 win for her?

FlorenceBlack · 30/06/2026 21:26

Get my teeth done
Treat myself to a new car, current one is 20 years old.
Help my sibling out as they’ve struggled recently with some unexpected and essential home repairs.

Planner2026 · 30/06/2026 21:34

If I won a million I’d invest it and we’d retire a few years early.

PremiumBondJovi · 30/06/2026 21:49

There has been nobody home all day today at Casa BondJovi. This means that I'm holding on to the Irrational Hope of an AM visit a little longer, at least until I can see the locations of the two ridiculously lucky new millionaires when the HVW list is released later!

FiloPasty · 30/06/2026 21:58

sadly no visit for me today and I’ve also planned all the spends!

fingers crossed

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/06/2026 22:00

No AM visit for me today. It looks very much like I’m going to be working a bit longer again!
