How old are children?

JenniferAnistonForReals · 16/04/2025 12:25

Your best bet is to use a benefits calculator such as entitledto.co.uk, it’s been pretty accurate when I’ve used it.

SatanicAngel · 16/04/2025 12:25

Have you done one of the online calculators like entitled to? They're usually pretty accurate.

BobbyBiscuits · 16/04/2025 12:25

If your children are school age they'll probably try and press you to do more hours or seek additional work. But you should contact the UC contact centre. It's worth a try and you may well get something. I don't work and don't have kids and I'm disabled so my circumstances are quite different. The worst they can do is say no. So just ask. I hope you get something x

megggggg · 16/04/2025 12:26

I have a 9 year old, 6 year old and 11 month old.

megggggg · 16/04/2025 12:28

ive done the calculator however when baby was first born we applied but my partner did some weekend work. And they said we wasn't entitled to nothing.
but the calculator said we would get something which is why I'm abit weary of trusting the calculator

Mrsttcno1 · 16/04/2025 12:30

It is tricky with the calculator if you have additional work.

There is a 2 child limit on UC so you’re not entitled to anything for your 3rd child, but you may still be entitled to something. I’d go into CAB and speak to someone in person x

Crocsareanoforme · 16/04/2025 12:30

If you ask your question in this Facebook group the admin is super helpful https://www.facebook.com/share/g/18x8ZV7Kfr/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Mrsttcno1 · 16/04/2025 12:30

Do you have any savings also?

megggggg · 16/04/2025 12:31

I don't have any savings at all

I’m so sorry. That sounds really difficult and I totally understand why you’d be wary of them.

Shouldbedoing · 16/04/2025 12:43

I think those incomes with children in the house would be eligible for UC

Lovelysummerdays · 16/04/2025 12:49

I’d chuck it through an entitled to calculator. For comparison I’m a single parent, own rather than rent and have to take home about £2800 to get no UC. I don’t make that most months as overtime is paid quarterly. I don’t get much in general but a couple of hundred in UC in my standard wage months.

lalalalalala2024 · 16/04/2025 12:55

I earnt 2050 as a single parent, 1 child and got £500 so you will definitely be entitled. I would do a claim today

I'm pretty sure you would be eligible OP. Put a claim in, you've got bugger all to lose.

Bromptotoo · 16/04/2025 13:37

I think, assuming all of the rent is eligible, you'd get about £785/month.

As ever, try the Help to Claim Service.

Are you renting privately. Often LA sets a rate for rent which is a good bit below market rates. So there’s hundreds of pounds a month that can’t be claimed for.

Yes it's private rented. X

You can check the LHA rate, ie the max UC will cover for your postcode areas here:

https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/

Based on ages of your kids I think you'd be allowed 3 bedrooms.

Cherrycola4 · 16/04/2025 14:04

We earn the same, one child, we get £0.

happydayzahead · 16/04/2025 14:05

I recently gave up work. DH earns £1765, I was earning £1200. 3 children (only get it for 2) and rent £850. On those months we would get about £400 UC.

Our housing element is £620 so we have to top up.

SkibidiSigma · 16/04/2025 14:07

Definitely entitled to UC, we earn about the same between us and get nearly £200. Our rent is higher but we only have 1 DC

TheLurpackYears · 16/04/2025 14:11

You would be entitled to claim and wouldn't need to increase your hours because your partner earns over the joint claim limit.
