Can somebody please explain Barckays issues today ?

Hello MN.
My employer has advised at 3p.m nobody is getting paid today due to Barclays app and online issues...

When will people due salary payments today actually get paid/be able to access funds ?

This is a nightmare nobody needs the last day of January -any info would be greatly appreciated!

I was in Aldi's earlier, they were telling people they couldn't pay with a Barclays debit card due to the latter having IT issues.

I was chatting to the assistant in Aldi and she pointed out a trolley which was loaded with food items which needed putting back after cards had been declined. Surely someone standing at the entrance, warning customers before they shopped, would’ve avoided that.

A notice maybe at the entrance would have been useful, but from being someone that's been posted on an entrance to warn people of something, it doesn't work because you'll get pulled away by another customer just as 10 people with the Barclays cards come in! After being told by the last 100 they'll use another card or they don't bank with Barclays - It's customer service sods law 🤣.

My employer banks with Barclays and thankfully I received my salary payment today.

Those poor people who didn't manage to close on their house sales!!!!

I completed on my house sale today, my sale went through fine, but Barclays have my onward purchase money. My removal van is full, my friend is putting me and my kids up. We can't have the keys to our new house 😭

My DH got paid, (he gets paid 4-weekly on a Friday...) He got paid at 7 minutes past midnight Friday morning. Maybe he got paid before the issue?

And this is why I always carry around £90-£100 cash in my purse. I have been stung one too many times by my debit card failing. (Barclays glitch, or a glitch in the store, or occasionally my 'working' account doesn't have enough funds in it!)

So if there is a 'fail' I can pay by cash!

People are going to have to train themselves to keep some cash in their purse/wallet. Like around £100.

Tax return deadline and you can connect with a QR code to pay directly from your bank. I suspect they couldn’t keep up!

I've transferred money from Barclays to NatWest today without issue. (The money I tried to transfer at 3.30pm).

So hopefully it's solved

Direct debits only go out on working days, so it won’t go out until Monday anyway.

My benefits haven’t got in today as they usually would either. Hoping our cards work this weekend other wise we are very stuck. Seems lots of people are having cards payment issues despite Barclays saying otherwise.

It’s awful for those planning to move today, really hope it’s sorted quickly for you.

I hadn’t heard that there were any problems and went into a shop at 6.45pm and paid with my card (£30) with no problems. Went into the shop next door to that one and 3 minutes later my card was declined for a £4 purchase. Assumed it was just a temporary glitch either with my card or their card reader but the checkout assistant looked at me like I was a pauper and it was pretty embarrassing as a queue had formed.

I then headed to Aldi to do a top up shop, expected my card would work but it was declined again as was the woman’s card at the self service till next to me. The assistant came to us and asked if we were paying with Barclays debit cards, and explained why they were being declined. I remembered I had an emergency credit card, a Barclaycard, in my bag and was able to pay with that.

We’re due a considerable amount of money being paid into our account today, an inheritance, and while it’s been transferred it appears to be floating around somewhere in the ether.

I'm sorry if this sounds intrusive, but would you mind letting me knows when your money comes in? It'll give me an idea of when my new house has been paid for at least. My solicitor isnt in until Monday, so nothing can be done until then, but at the moment I'm envisaging being homeless forever! Bad times
