PREMIUM BONDS AUGUST 2024

1000 replies

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/07/2024 19:12

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

PB have been about since 1957

Been 30yrs (April 2024) since a million was then the highest prize

nsandi-corporate.com/news-research/news/30-years-premium-bonds-ps1-million-jackpots#

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to them hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 win £100k and £50 win £25k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1925 in prizes

If have £5k average luck is £175 winnings a year

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two

PB odds calculator below

moneymarvel.co.uk/calculators/premium-bonds/

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,925

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 2 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

The two winners of
the £1million prizes will be contacted by Agent Million (AM) 😂😂 the day before the first working day of the corresponding month.

There may however be
exceptions to this, such as when the first working day of the month is a
bank holiday, for example.

So

Day before first working day - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Day after first working day , including weekends - cream app showing all winnings

You can also check to see if have won via this link with your holders number

www.nsandi.com/prize-checker

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

Oddly I have carrot woman on the app showing that I've won £25. Have they changed things?

Just wondering if that's it for August? Delighted to have won something but more would always be nice. (Specially after the pain of yesterdays failed Oasis tickets)

happinessischocolate · 01/09/2024 11:16

@nettie434

My ice cream boy has changed to carrot fingered woman too 😂🤞

That win is from last month

JenaWren · 01/09/2024 11:18

Oh result happiness. I must have forgotten to check August. It's been a bit busy round here with olympics and house buying.

Fingers crossed for us all for this month's draw!

Georgieporgie29 · 01/09/2024 11:34

Mine is just a circle saying 2 days to go, I don’t have an ice cream boy or carrot woman, am I doing something wrong or looking in the wrong place maybe?

Same as me. I didn’t win anything last month, did you?

I have that and both DH and I won last month.

No, I have never won on them but only had £100, have just topped up a little bit but that won’t be ready until the October draw

Hippywannabe · 01/09/2024 12:06

Mine is just the circle but I did win last month.

Hippywannabe · 01/09/2024 12:07

Carrot lady has just arrived!

Same here

longtompot · 01/09/2024 12:36

My dhs has the carrot lady, but as I didn't win anything last month I have no picture.
Good luck all. Hope one of us gets the knock from AM today🤞We really could do with a good win this month as dhs work is slowing down and things are getting a bit tight. We could take out of our PBs but would be a last resort.

Did we say if buying more that the total shows in the list even if not in the draw that month

So If say had £1000 and buy another £500 today - what will show in the total amount. £1500 or £1000 in the total value of bonds section on list on Monday

Can anyone answer this

As when I look on the list I want to know whether to look for my old Total or new total but that the added bit won't be in till oct

Carrot finger woman!! That's what it is!

I thought she was ecstatic looking at chilli or a strange salami??

Hopefully I can answer this if I win tomorrow given I managed to buy more on Friday just gone.

westisbest1982 · 01/09/2024 11:05

The draw’s already happened. The list of big prizes will be up on the NS&I website tomorrow and all results will be on the app and website on Tuesday.

Ooh! I'll look forward to that. We do have some bought recently but I also have a £1 Bond my parents bought for me when I was born. It's never won anything, but you never know ...

BirthdayRainbow · 01/09/2024 13:31

I'm confused. I've also got carrot lady and two wins. When I looked it is the same as last month. So I must have looked last month so is it for today? Is it usual to win the same amount for both prices?

InMySpareTime · 01/09/2024 13:45

Anyone who won a prize last month sees a change of picture on around the 1st. It does not signify either way whether they won anything this month.

BirthdayRainbow · 01/09/2024 13:49

I have just had another look and it's saying next draw September 3rd. So I've learnt that every time you look if you've won it's as if it is the first time you've looked.

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 01/09/2024 14:26

I wonder what it's like to do the AM job? On the one hand, it must be wonderful to be delivering such incredible and usually life-changing news every month. On the other hand, AM presumably relies on a certain annual income and has bills to pay just like the rest of the population and so I wonder if s/he feels any jealousy? I also wonder if AM has ever delivered the news to someone seemingly unpleasant and undeserving and how s/he feels about that? It's a pity we can't have an AM AMA...or I can just ask when s/he arrives today and feed back! 🤞

Whinge · 01/09/2024 15:03

I often think the worst part of being AM, is the fact you have a really cool job but you can't actually tell anyone about it.

starbright92 · 01/09/2024 16:09

No AM visit here yet. We've eaten the millionaire shortbread!

AgentPenny · 01/09/2024 16:15

At what point do we give up the ghost for the million? Would agent million still come on a Sunday evening? I'm only a 3 hour drive from them. If I had to drive 6 hours in total and go back to my call centre job on Monday morning I'd want to get it out the way and home for a decent time on Sunday night. I'm really overthinking this aren't I? Grin

fretfree · 01/09/2024 16:28

I’m overseas. It gives that little bit of extra time thinking « well, they would have to get a flight out, and we are an hour in front, ….. » before accepting that maybe next month is my month, not this one. Today is my first day out of work so a nice win would be amazing 🤞

I think we previously established that there are a few Agent Million’s (or is that Agent’s Million?!) that have responsibility for different areas of the country so that they don’t have to travel too far.
