Universal credit managed migration thread

Anyone else waiting for a migration notice this year?
Looks like they are planning to move people on tax credits only onto universal credit this year but haven't released any detailed timetables about areas.
Thought it might be useful to share experiences and information on here for those affected.

Can anyone help re. how DWP should respond to mandatory reconsideration request for tax credits? I submitted it on 8th July. My government gateway account when I click on progress just says it is submitted. I got a standard tax credits letter recently, but it didn't say anywhere on it it was a response to mandatory reconsideration, just a standard award letter? if that is my response then they still haven't considered by pension contributions. Appreciate I may need to start my own thread but thought I would try you helpful people first.

megletthesecond · 15/09/2023 14:07

Received my letter today. Got until 12th Jan to claim.

NewUserName23 · 15/09/2023 14:23

Just wondering if you phoned? What did TC say about not moving over to UC?

Editing to add that was for a poster above but I mucked up the posting 🙈

blueripple · 15/09/2023 15:15

A quick question for those who have done their migration.....I did mine last night but at no point was I asked if I had a migration letter or asked to put in the reference code from that letter. Did you?

Wondering if somehow I've bolloxed it up and won't get the transitional protection now. Or will they just match up my application with my migration behind the scenes?

Arrrgggghhh. I hate stuff like this!

spacechimp79 · 15/09/2023 16:25

@blueripple i did mine yesterday also and just went to the link on the letter but no I didn’t put in any ref code and I wasn’t asked if I was migrating.
Already had an appt through for Monday but obviously that is far too short notice when I work full time so I have replied in my journal asking for a weekend appointment. This is just to verify my identity as for some reason I could not do it on government gateway. No idea why?!

blueripple · 15/09/2023 16:37

That's reassuring to know, thanks @spacechimp79 . My identity was confirmed through my government gateway, but I haven't had anything on my journal yet. Even though there was an email at 8am this morning asking me to log in to look at something in my journal....but there wasn't anything there that I hadn't seen last night🤷‍♀️

Rummikub · 16/09/2023 11:33

I’m going to have to do it this week. I e had my last ctc payment. And I get my wages at the end of the month. So next weeks seems most appropriate.
But I’m really anxious!

Anyone know what happens to the two week gap I’ll have? No ctc or uc?

Rummikub · 16/09/2023 11:34

Will ctc give a final payment once I apply for uc to cover that gap?

Bemyclementine · 16/09/2023 11:44

@Rummikub I didnt get another TC payment after applying for UC. You can ask for an advance if needed. The process was very quick though, I think 5wks and a couple of days between claim and payment.

Rummikub · 16/09/2023 11:46

Oh ok thanks for replying.
mai o should’ve applied as soon as I got the last ctc payment.

Maybe that’ll make me bite the bullet!

blueripple · 16/09/2023 13:38

@Rummikub I had a TC payment at the beginning of the month and my deadline to apply for UC was 28th so I did it on Thursday and it said I would be told the amount on 16/10 and paid on 20/10 so for me it's going to be about 7 weeks between payments. I'm lucky that in the way my wages and maintenance come in I should be OK but I can see how hard that long gap could be for some 😕

BringItOnxxx · 16/09/2023 13:39

In the same position and waiting with dread tbh.

Rummikub · 16/09/2023 13:45

@blueripple
that’s my deadline too! I wonder if ill have the same gap.

Rummikub · 16/09/2023 13:47

I don’t understand tbh why ctc dont cover the gap till the date of migration letter at least.

Bemyclementine · 16/09/2023 17:32

The UC should cover the period but it will be in arrears of course . If anyone reading hasn't applied yet, I would apply the day of/after your TC payment.

SamJM2 · 16/09/2023 17:46

Need advice please!

Currently get CTC and WTC.

I have just reieved my migration notice and need to move by 13th January.
I get paid 4 weekly so one month a year I get paid twice, which I know due to other colleagues this means they don't receive any UC the next month due to this double payment. This year its December where I get paid at the beginning and at the end.
So... do I claim UC now? Or wait until the beginning of January after the 2nd December payment and apply then? Will this stop the month of No payment happening, or will it mess up the whole UC claim and I'll basically get nothing ever because the month before my wage was too high?
Does your Tax credits stop the moment you make a UC claim? I use my monthly wages to pay my major bills and use TC to pay food and things as it comes in weekly.
So stressed and confused!
Thanks!

Bemyclementine · 17/09/2023 10:58

I'm not sure what happens if you're paid 4 weekly though there must be information out there.

I got TC 4 weekly, abd claimed UC a day or so after getting a TC payment. Tc then stopped, I didn't get the next payment 4 weeks on, but I got UC 5weeks and few days after claiming. So for me, I was only waiting a week and a half after my TC would have been due.

You can request an advance though if you will struggle.

If you're paid wages/salary every four weeks then there will be on Assessment Period in which you receive 2 lots of salary with a consequent reduction in UC.

That's how it works....

Just had the letter. I am down to £5 a week in Tax Credit and due to a recent inheritance, my savings pot is over £16k. The migration letter said apply even if you have savings of over £16k. Assuming there is some kind of protection on migration? In which case, is any value in me making the application? My youngest is 14 and receives DLA if that makes a difference. Calculator suggests I’ll get less than the current £5 but is there anything else to be aware of? I am inclined to not bother but want to make sure I’m not missing something. Thank you.

Misshowe · 19/09/2023 08:46

Hi all. Just had the dreaded brown envelope and gotta make a claim by 12 January. Anyone know will I have to increase my hours as my son is 15 years old and I work 25 hours? Also do we still have help with dental and opticians?

That depends on how much you earn. The threshold to receive free prescriptions etc is a lot lower than on TC so you need to have a look.

AlwaysFrazzled88 · 19/09/2023 09:09

Do you earn less than £500 a month?

No double that 😔

Bemyclementine · 19/09/2023 11:28

You should be fine @Misshowe , its more whether you are earning enough ££ rather than working enough hours . I work 18.5 and asked the same at my appointment, I earn "enough" to not have to look for more work.

spacechimp79 · 21/09/2023 08:53

Well I am really confused as received my tax credits payment today despite applying for UC last week. Has anybody else had this? Worried I have done something wrong now. They still haven’t sent me an appointment to verify my identity that I can actually attend.
