£1000 by 1st June

I need to make £1000 before the 1st June so in just over 10 days.

I already do Prolific, Appen and Fiverr but only make around £10 a month on these each.

It’s needed for a school trip for my DC (aged 8). I work in the office 3 days a week so I have 4 days to do it. I’m a single parent and DC goes to their dads some weekends so I do have uninterrupted time to do it.

I’ve already sold everything I can.

Any other ideas?

£1000 is a lot of money for a school trip. Haven't you had the option to pay in instalments? Also, have you spoken to the school about your difficulties paying it?

MrsRickAstley · 21/05/2023 17:31

A £1k school trip for an 8 year old is an obscene amount.

3luckystars · 21/05/2023 17:31

Are you sure you have nothing else to sell? I read before that people have on average £2000 worth of stuff in their attic. Is there anything else you can think of to sell?

thats very short notice to come up with the money, it’s a lot. Do they need spending money too ?

is there any grandparents or anyone you could get an early birthday money from to contribute towards it?

KateyCuckoo · 21/05/2023 17:31

What 8 yr olds go on £1000 school trips?

KnickerlessParsons · 21/05/2023 17:31

Talk to the school. They will have a hardship fund. You could offer to repay slowly if it makes you feel better about it but no child should miss out on school trips because their parent is hard up.

RitaCrudgington · 21/05/2023 17:31

Switch bank account? Not sure whether you'd get the money in time but it's worth a look - and even if the money would take a couple of weeks to get to you, maybe you could borrow it safe in the knowledge that you'd definitely be able to pay it back.

It's not just 1 8yo I'm paying for and it's a residential, it's £484 each for 4 overnights then they're allowed spending money as well.

I've paid the deposit of £50 each already.

Sorry I missed that they were 8!!! That’s complete madness. You don’t have it.

And yet if the school organises trips that cost £1k, a lot of children will miss out.

gogohmm · 21/05/2023 17:33

Do speak to the school, also do you have a short term employment agency nearby, dd and I have done stadium cleaning which was £140 for the day (long day) for instance, only got it the day before each time. Also possibly babysitting over the weekend, won't solve your issue but contributes. Could dcs dad lend you money at least? Seems an awful lot for a trip though i guess circumstances can change

NeedTheMoneySoon · 21/05/2023 17:33

If I don't pay it then DC can't go and they'll likely be the only Y4s left behind, they'll be 9 by the time they go

SlipSlidinAway · 21/05/2023 17:33

Oh I see - 2 children, not one. That makes the cost more reasonable!

KnickerlessParsons · 21/05/2023 17:34

Posted too soon.

I'm not sure I'd actually want to spend £1000 on a school trip for an 8 year old: if I had that money I can think of several ways to spend it that would benefit my children more than going on a school trip, but you've made your decision so talk to the school.

SheilaFentiman · 21/05/2023 17:34

Agree - talk to the school about instalments. You work there so they know where to find you!

SlipSlidinAway · 21/05/2023 17:35

When my dcs did residentials in primary, there were always a few extra places for those who couldn't afford to pay. Could you speak to the HT in confidence?

3luckystars · 21/05/2023 17:35

Could a relative pay and you could pay them back. What about their dad, he should be paying half.

I just don’t think you can afford it though. When did you pay the deposit ?

@SheilaFentiman Sorry I don't work at the school, I work in an office 3 days a week I meant

@3luckystars October was the deposit and we hvae until 1st June to pay the rest

Bank loan? (Am sure people will be aghast about the idea of debt but spreading the cost of a holiday isn't unreasonable if you have a proper plan for repayments.)

SheilaFentiman · 21/05/2023 17:38

Oh! Misunderstood. Still talk about instalments.

any Amazon or similar vouchers that you could sell to a friend? Do the dc have any bank account or piggy bank money that could help (with the spending money at least, with more if possible)

what about their dad?

SheilaFentiman · 21/05/2023 17:39

That’s a long time - COL, mortgage, relationship changes, job losses - several others may not be able to go.

shysquirrel · 21/05/2023 17:39

Short of getting a loan, I can't see how it would be possible to raise at such short notice. If you've know since last year you should really have spoken to the school earlier than this

NeedTheMoneySoon · 21/05/2023 17:40

ExH won't pay anything above his £35 a month maintenance that I get via CMS.

I thought in October I could afford it, but cost of living hit harder than expected.

I'll chat to school, but I'd still like to make some contribution if I can.

Do you have a car? You could do deliveroo / Ubereats?

KateyCuckoo · 21/05/2023 17:44

Oh how come you haven't been paying any since October then?
