£1000 by 1st June

NeedTheMoneySoon · 21/05/2023 17:28

I need to make £1000 before the 1st June so in just over 10 days.

I already do Prolific, Appen and Fiverr but only make around £10 a month on these each.

It’s needed for a school trip for my DC (aged 8). I work in the office 3 days a week so I have 4 days to do it. I’m a single parent and DC goes to their dads some weekends so I do have uninterrupted time to do it.

I’ve already sold everything I can.

Any other ideas?

Oh how come you haven't been paying any since October then?

@KateyCuckoo I intended to save up in my ISA then pay off on 1st June as the Interest on my ISA is quite high. But then one thing after another

Credit card ?

Invigilating exams ?

Pizza express recruiting and that would weekends so doable, but you won't have the money in your hand by June

determinedtomakethiswork · 21/05/2023 17:49

Are you absolutely sure that every single child will be going? Surely there must be a lot whose parents can't afford £500 for just a few days.

Moro93 · 21/05/2023 17:52

I was going to say it’s quite short notice for that amount of money but then I seen you paid the deposit in October.

Realistically, it might not be possible. Unless a family member can help, you take out a loan or you speak to the school. That amount probably should have been saved for with a little each month, but obviously CoL etc.

Do you drive? Are there any local takeaways you could try getting a delivery slot for? Even Uber Eats or Just Eat for at least a night or two a week. You probably won’t make that much but possibly a couple of hundred. I have relatives who do deliveries for a local takeaway every few weeks and they sometimes make as much as £180 per night, including tips.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 21/05/2023 17:53

I don't know where you are but sitters have quoted £11.50 for a Saturday night. Mind you there are only 2 of those before the 1st of June.

ememem84 · 21/05/2023 17:58

Another one here saying they probably can’t go.

NeedTheMoneySoon · 21/05/2023 17:58

Thanks everyone it's probably impossible

I drive but would then need to pay a babysitter to do deliveries in the week and there's only 1 weekend they're at their dads between now and 1st June

Aside from selling everything you have, bank loan (can take time and maybe not advisable going into debt for a residential trip) and getting a million new jobs I don’t see how you can do it.

I think if you’d had more time it’s be totally doable. But it’s the timeframe that’s the killer n

MrFlobby · 21/05/2023 18:14

Can you increase your over draft? Take out a no interest credit card? Do a car boot, I know you’ve said you’ve sold all you can be even old toys that aren’t being used now can rack up when there’s a few of them. Cash in hand cleaning? Can post on fb. Definitely speak to the school, especially if you’re in receipt of UC there are usually things in place to help.

Tiredalwaystired · 21/05/2023 18:16

Does the school also do a year 6 residential? I would be tempted to pull out of this one if so and put money into the year six residential when they are more likely to get more from it and you have time to save.

sorry things are tough.

@PoorOldHorse Your comment is unnecessarily rude and unhelpful, I've reported it.

OP, is there no one at all - friends, family - you can borrow a small amount from, to pay a chunk of the trip and ask the school for extra time or help towards the rest? Otherwise, a 0% credit card or a loan will be the quick options that you can work towards paying back over a longer time.

PoorOldHorse · 21/05/2023 18:29

NBLarsen, you think it's better to get into debt than to face facts? Children don't wither and fade away if they don't go on school trips and taking on any needless debt in the current climate - especially for something as luxurious as this - is just plain crazy.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2023 18:32

I don't understand why you've known/had since oct to find £1000

Yet do it with 10 days to spare

Where could have saved /earnt extra £125 a month for past 8mths

Can only think of overdraft or interest free /low interest card

NeedTheMoneySoon · 21/05/2023 18:33

I will speak to school tomorrow.

No Y6 residential as it's a First School and they're in their last year. And for reasons I don't want to go into the chances of 1 of the DC being on the Y8 residential is slim, so for at least that DC I want them to do this one.

Any chance you are due an energy refund? I'm with EDF and I'm due one before the end of the month

HTruffle · 21/05/2023 18:38

Cash in hand jobs - cleaning, hospitality, paper round, delivering leaflets, dog walking?

Car boot sale

matched betting

see if you can pick up any bargains in charity shops then eBay

vinted anything you don’t wear

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 21/05/2023 18:39

Sorry but you've had snice October to sort this and leaving just 10 days to sort that amount of money from thin air is very unrealistic.

SheilaFentiman · 21/05/2023 18:45

If their dad won’t pay more, might he take them an extra weekend and you have them an extra weekend in July?

LadyJ2023 · 21/05/2023 18:52

None of our 4 would be going on a 1000 pound trip sorry but that would pay for a whole week away for the whole family plus leave spending money

That's probably the best idea of the thread, as it's like savings you didn't know you had.

Plus transferring your bank account, although they don't always pay out quickly but when I transferred to natwest I think I got the money straight away.

The problem with borrowing the money is that it doesn't sound like you have any money available to pay it back, unless you are leaking money somewhere and are able to make cutbacks to other costs.

Can you do any extra shifts in your main job? Holiday cover or similar? Or could you up your hours to 4 days a week, it sounds like you could do with earning a bit more anyway. Have you had a pay rise or looked for better pay elsewhere?
