If you're in your 30s, how big is your mortgage?

With interest rates rising, house prices rising etc I'd be curious to know how large your mortgage is given these factors. Would also be good to know if I'm pretty average while i look at my big minus figure on my Natwest app.

My mortgage is currently £152k with 25y 8m left. I'm North West. We took it out over 30 years at the time to make it cheaper month by month...

5 year fix ends at the end of the year and definitely won't be getting a rate of 1.9% again...

255k with 16 years left, I’m 33.

Our rate is up next year. We’re debating either paying it off completely, as it would take 8 years to save £250k on our current salaries, or pay off half & reduce our mortgage term.

Gimmethemoney · 31/03/2023 23:17

600k+ 30+ years SE London we will probably be here for 10yrs. But who knows!

housemaus · 01/04/2023 00:50

Age 34 and 38, mortgage of £115k, 24 years left (i.e. we only got it a year ago - we had a fairly big deposit). Once we're in a position to, we're going to start overpaying as much as we can without fees.

Crumpledstilstkin · 01/04/2023 02:36

@EssexMamisoa @verdantverdure @milkshakeandchips5 we're not even London but looking at £900k+ for a 4 bed. So depressing, I just want somewhere to live.

Holzy91 · 01/04/2023 03:32

Both 32,
50k left, 11 years to go.
Fixed June next year.

started at 25 years in 2014 and managed to drop 5 years when refixing in 2019.

Hoping to drop a few years again to pay off mortgage before 40.

Aquarius1234 · 02/04/2023 00:40

129k 30 years or so left. 37 years old.

  1. We could only get a mortgage for 200k so had to ask parents to remortgage their house for a further 100k which we also pay. (they are extremely trusting but we have to keep a buffer to make sure that mortgage is paid) the repayments on both combined are around 1700pcm. It's absolutely crippling, we eat out of the reduced basket at tesco, cancelled netflix and prime, but are not on benefits and we absolutely had to move. I know someone in London who bought at 1.5m. They have normal jobs so must also have parental help. Last time interest rates were this high, house prices were a lot lower. In fact my wage was higher in 2006 than it is now as I had to change field.

I'm early 30s. About 40K left on my mortgage. 20 years left on the mortgage but will be paying it off much much sooner than that.

Onthegejdj · 02/04/2023 15:09

£93k and 23 years left. North East.

Nap1983 · 02/04/2023 15:11

I’m 39 we have 50k left on ours. Could pay it off but repayments are so low it’s not worth it. Thinking of extending this year as could do with more living space, old house so although have plenty bedrooms the kitchen is small and could do with another loo downstairs. Have considered a larger new build but dont want to take on another mortgage at this age or cut my lifestyle.

specialklady · 02/04/2023 15:13

About 250k with 27years left. We're on 1.64% until Sept 26

Chanel05 · 03/04/2023 08:06

17 years left and £167k.

We have enough in the bank (from inheritance) to pay this off but would like to upsize. Currently have a very low fixed rate.

Charcol · 04/04/2023 18:52

South East based. Mid -30s couple.

£305k left…. Was originally 30 yr mortgage,... now 4.5 years into it. @ 2.1%. Due to expire in 6months.

So we need to start looking into remortaging soon.

mummy2boys53 · 05/04/2023 21:58

40 - £185,000 with 30 years left!

Useranon1 · 05/04/2023 22:01

0, I just paid it off (does happy dance!)

But will take out a new one in a couple of years to upsize when market stabilises

xcurlyluciex · 11/04/2023 18:02

Around £7.5k and 6 month left. Took on a 25 year mortgage in 2006, and it'll be paid off 8 years early with overpaying. I know we are fortunate to be in this situation with interest rates rising - how prices where we live (SE) are absolutely ridiculous now. We may move in the future - but no plans at the moment.

beezlebubnicky · 11/04/2023 20:31

£114,800 - 25 years left.

LuisaMei · 14/04/2023 10:31

Around 250k, I'm 37. We had almost paid off our last one but upsized to our forever home last year. We will start overpaying soon

Maraudingmarauders · 14/04/2023 10:42

£260k - 28years. We were at £120k with 18 years but then upsized! We over pay a little, and hoping to increase thay as time goes on.

Movingonupi · 27/04/2023 14:48

mid 30’s. £270k, 27 years left! However, the house is worth around 550k now so we have a decent chunk of equity. Realistically I think in the next few years we will be able to start overpaying a lot so I hope to get it paid off in around 15-20 years if we are lucky.

LT2 · 02/05/2023 20:01

There is just over 30k left. 8 years ago we took it out, borrowing 150k. Been overpaying it as much as we can. We will probably upsize and get another mortgage in the future though.

Gymgo · 03/05/2023 11:05

130 k , 25 years , just had new fix deal gone from 1.99 to 4.05 120 a month increase

Plan to be mortage free 12 to 15 years
