If you're in your 30s, how big is your mortgage?

With interest rates rising, house prices rising etc I'd be curious to know how large your mortgage is given these factors. Would also be good to know if I'm pretty average while i look at my big minus figure on my Natwest app.

My mortgage is currently £152k with 25y 8m left. I'm North West. We took it out over 30 years at the time to make it cheaper month by month...

5 year fix ends at the end of the year and definitely won't be getting a rate of 1.9% again...

Late 30s, husband in 40s. We took £42K over 15 years- house was only worth £60K as it was a real fixer-upper, and we paid a large deposit.

We got a 5 year fixed term for 1.8% which has another 2 years left, dreading to think what the change will be like when that runs out.

Lifeisrelentless · 31/03/2023 13:58

251k and 27 years left. Fixed rate ends next April (dreading it!). In the south east where house prices are high!

WeWereInParis · 31/03/2023 14:00

We're 31 and have about £220k

hermioneee · 31/03/2023 14:04

303k left and 22 years, but we're overpaying so will be done sooner.

illtakeit · 31/03/2023 14:04

Age 30
£199K - 23 years left 3.10% fixed until Sept this year!

Jujujuly · 31/03/2023 14:07

Wow…wish ours was as low as some of these! It’s about £400k with 20
years to go. We’re in our mid 30s in London and about to borrow £100k more to fund renovation works as can’t afford to move.

MuddledUpAgain · 31/03/2023 14:10

218k, 23 years left. I'm 34 and DH 35.

tvbed · 31/03/2023 14:15

38, £400k, 23 years

Hobert · 31/03/2023 14:19

We borrowed 500k when I was 39 (5 years ago now). It's a bit of a millstone but can afford the payments on it OK.

LilySavage · 31/03/2023 14:20

73k with 20 years to go. Fixed until October 2027 at 3.03%. It was at 1.8% before. I’m 30 and over paying while I am able to

Sakura54 · 31/03/2023 14:22

£80k. London. Started over 9 years ago. 5 year fixed rate ending very soon, so currently sorting out a new deal which is going to be over double.

About 100k, 36 & 38. ONLY 27 years to go 🤣 we did move to our perfect home 5 years ago though, so had to extend the term back up. I think we'll probably downsize before we pay it off to be honest. Only up side being as first time buyers we managed to buy in our early 20's during the recession, and when we sold that house it was worth alot more than what we paid, so have alot of equity in this house already

Chocolateydrink · 31/03/2023 14:26

I'm older but 20 years ago when we were in our early 30s abd bought our first house our mortgage was £140K and we got a 5 year fixed rate of about 5%. We were told it was very unlikely mortgage rates would drop any lower.

Iguanainanigloo · 31/03/2023 14:27

Also Fixed on 1.1% until 2027 so will try and overpay while we're on such a low rate!

Rowthe · 31/03/2023 14:28

About 220k. For 24 years.

But hoping to do a big payment once the fix ends in 4 years.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 31/03/2023 14:28

I’ve literally just bought into a new fixed rate. Couldn’t bear seeing the letters from the mortgage company keep coming through the letterbox telling me the interest rates were going up
just under 200k with 17 years left.

emotionalpuddle · 31/03/2023 14:30

I'm 33 (sole owner). North East. 87k left to pay at 1.74%, locked in for another 4 years. (Valued at 190k not sure if that's important). In theory 18 years left.. but I'm over paying to knock years off and take advantage of the interest rate Blush don't want to get stung when the interest rate ends x

Crumpledstilstkin · 31/03/2023 14:31

These are so low! I'm expecting to need to borrow at least £5-700k over 30 something years for our next home and we'll be mid 30s then. Dreading it.

Nw22 · 31/03/2023 14:31

About 230k but about to move and increase it.

CheesePleaseLoueese · 31/03/2023 14:31

£460k with 15 years left to run

Sugargliderwombat · 31/03/2023 14:34

334k and a million years left. Surrey though so no choice!

Is this in London?

catsandkid · 31/03/2023 14:44

£225k left, 29 years left on mortgage.
We overpay each month too and always have.

I'm 34yrs old and we've lived here about 6 years.

Yeah, you can't buy any kind of three bed family home for under 500k here. If you need four or five bedrooms you're getting closer to a million.

A 2 bed Victorian terrace is probably £375k

Not London, but Surrey with a 40 minute commute.
