If you're in your 30s, how big is your mortgage?

With interest rates rising, house prices rising etc I'd be curious to know how large your mortgage is given these factors. Would also be good to know if I'm pretty average while i look at my big minus figure on my Natwest app.

My mortgage is currently £152k with 25y 8m left. I'm North West. We took it out over 30 years at the time to make it cheaper month by month...

5 year fix ends at the end of the year and definitely won't be getting a rate of 1.9% again...

1.5 our yearly income remaining, fixed at 2.5% for 28 years (not UK). £380k.

Oliotya · 31/03/2023 16:24

£305k 34 years left. Did intend to overpay once very necessary renovations are completed, but probably won't afford to once our fix ends.

These are so low! I'm expecting to need to borrow at least £5-700k over 30 something years for our next home and we'll be mid 30s then. Dreading it.

If it helps, we're mid-30s, owing 600k over 33 years. We went from first flat to family home in SE, mostly because we wanted to avoid multiple stamp duty costs. It's a pain but doable and we have a longer term plan to overpay. But for now it's chunky!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 31/03/2023 16:35

200k with 17 years left

BelindaBears · 31/03/2023 16:49

Late 30s. 240k left over 13 years, £2000 a month after the interest rate rises, our last fix ended at just the wrong time.

It’s about to be 615k (439k on 1.8%), the rest on a tracker so c.5%. Yes, London. Got to find the money for reno and then will be paying down AGGRESSIVELY…

Similar to us also in london

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 31/03/2023 16:55

325k ish with 17 years left to run but aiming to do it in under 10, fixed around 1.4% (can’t remember exactly) for another 2.5year.

not overpaying at moment as earning more elsewhere and rate is low

MirenaMisery · 31/03/2023 16:59

£291k and 29 years left. 🥴

Bearpawk · 31/03/2023 17:07

220k, 21 years

Mummy2mybear · 31/03/2023 20:25

HAF1119 · 31/03/2023 13:43

141k fixed at 5.48% for the next 4 years 10 months...
wish I'd held off fixing but they kept going up and was worried it would go even higher

I think i would have done this, our fixed term ends early next year but its peace of mind to know what your payments will be for the next 5 years or so. Intrest rates will just keep fluctuating you did the right thing they would have only put you on the standard rate anyway so you would have ended up paying out more while waiting for them to drop doubt we will ever see the 1 or 2 percent rates again 😩x

butterflycatcher · 31/03/2023 20:29

545k remaining over 26 years. I'm 37 in the south east. We locked in a rate of 1.93% for 10 years early last year thankfully.

Teapleasemilknosugar · 31/03/2023 20:43

Joint mortgage, £188k remaining with just 13yrs term left. (We started at £300k for 25yrs, 5.5 yrs ago).

South East.

usererror99 · 31/03/2023 20:50

£180k and I'm 39

Will shortly rise to £240k to fund a divorce payout 😳

Saz1793 · 31/03/2023 21:04

£650I am 30 we have been hugely impacted with the interest rate rise 😩

Meandfour · 31/03/2023 21:13

Both 32. Owe £161,000 with 23 years & 11 months left but we overpay. Have 3 years 11 months left on a fixed rate under 1%.
Only owe just over a quarter of the value so happy with the position.

GiltEdges · 31/03/2023 21:17

£280k, 34 year term. Anticipate clearing at the end of our next fix in 5 years based on overpaying each month to the max allowed.

newbiebewbie · 31/03/2023 21:20

32 with £21k left and 11 years.

About to move though and mortgage will be getting much much bigger!

QueenCamilla · 31/03/2023 21:28

A year ago I bought 80k Victorian wreck of a house mortgage free. Could sell for 150k once refurbed. But I won't sell. I realised that I value being debt-less more than many other things. I'm able to work 2-3 day weeks and still get by fine in this economic situation.
I moved from SE to NE to live a more relaxed life.

pinksquash13 · 31/03/2023 21:35

Mid 30s, 240k,18 years left. We've fixed at 1.5% for another couple of years. We don't over pay but when we moved 2 years ago, we reduced our term to the max we could afford monthly. Is there a difference between reducing term and overpaying?

Username24680 · 31/03/2023 21:49

32 and 35 (DH) here - £190k over about 25 years. Can’t remember interest rate but we fixed for 10years just before it started really rising last year.

TheSnailAndTheWaaaail · 31/03/2023 21:51

Just fixed again on 175k with 23 years left. Both 33. Plan to overpay once childcare costs reduce when both kids are in primary school in about 4 years!

riotlady · 31/03/2023 22:19

We’re 30, have £125k and 37 years (although making small overpayments to hopefully bring that down a bit). We bought last year and fixed at 2.54% for 5 years… was waffling between a 2 and 5 year fix at the time and very glad I went for 5!

Jackdanielsg1 · 31/03/2023 22:31

Only just clinging on to the 30 category but £67k with a term of 11 years. We are low earners compared to most people so didn't want to stretch ourselves too much.

thefatpotato · 31/03/2023 22:35

Late 30's/early40's and mortgage of £490k with 26 years left. Makes me feel a bit sick tbh!

thaegumathteth · 31/03/2023 23:05

Am 40 but approx £22k left and £220 a month
