If you're in your 30s, how big is your mortgage?

With interest rates rising, house prices rising etc I'd be curious to know how large your mortgage is given these factors. Would also be good to know if I'm pretty average while i look at my big minus figure on my Natwest app.

My mortgage is currently £152k with 25y 8m left. I'm North West. We took it out over 30 years at the time to make it cheaper month by month...

5 year fix ends at the end of the year and definitely won't be getting a rate of 1.9% again...

It’s about to be 615k (439k on 1.8%), the rest on a tracker so c.5%. Yes, London. Got to find the money for reno and then will be paying down AGGRESSIVELY…

PetitPorpoise · 31/03/2023 14:56

£115000 over 27 years.

Fix is ending next year. We always planned on borrowing more at this point to do some bigger jobs but that is no longer happening. I'll be delighted to get a new fix in the low 4%s at the moment.

Bought in my 20s just before the 2008 crash, for £300k.

By 2017 when I sold it to get married, when I was 38, I owed £60k. So very low really.

Before I met DH I was aiming for mortgage free by 40. I rented out a room in the house which covered the mortgage and overpayed as much as I could. That made a huge difference. I also had an inheritance of £25k which I paid into the house.

oddwellingtonboots · 31/03/2023 14:59

age 39, £160k, sole owner, 29 years remaining

ActDottie · 31/03/2023 15:02

I am 30 (just!) c£358k and 23 years left

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 31/03/2023 15:02

Over £500k with 27 years left. It is what it is, we’ve got to live somewhere.

SplunkPostGres · 31/03/2023 15:05

39, sole owner, 212k - 18 years remaining. 1.7% 5 year fix until Sept 2026. I may have to extend the term if rates remain high or if salary has not increased significantly by the time the fix ends. Approx 1/4 of monthly take home on Mortgage costs.

shivawn · 31/03/2023 15:07

Around €112k with 22 years remaining. We'll be moving in the next couple years and tripling this.

Quizzed · 31/03/2023 15:11

I've just taken on a new house and mortgage on my own after a divorce. I'm 39, have 30 years left on a £80k mortgage. Interest is 4% and I intend to over pay each month to reduce the term.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 31/03/2023 15:18

£320K and 16 years left

ComtesseDeSpair · 31/03/2023 15:22

About £590k 19 years left. London. Hence high. Have about the same again in equity though.

transformandriseup · 31/03/2023 15:24

20 years left £100k

duoplik · 31/03/2023 15:27

these threads are usually 'we're both 32 and have just paid off our mortgage'.

yep or we earn 500k but borrowed 100k as risk averse!

ladykale · 31/03/2023 15:28

Not many Londoners on this thread it seems?!

Coffeaddict · 31/03/2023 15:29

270k with 32 years to repay. Got the mortgage locked in at 3.25% on a 5% deposit just before the base rate started going up. We wouldn't have been able to afford to buy now.

Bobshhh · 31/03/2023 15:32

£530,000 but £250,000 in equity which feels good seeing as we only bought our first house 5 years ago and this is a recent move to our second.

35 years I think, obviously we’re London!

SofieM0 · 31/03/2023 15:32

£153k 24 years
but overpaying so could reduce it to 13 years if I’m able to keep up (which I won’t if my rate goes above 5% when fix finishes)
East Midlands

pinkpixie83 · 31/03/2023 15:33

Sole owner, 40 next month, £58000 left and 12 years .... glad i bought early and had some inheritence to help.

ouse · 31/03/2023 15:33

About 240k and using the Nationwide house price index our LTV is edging close to 50%. Think we still have 25 years left to run but we will be overpaying once youngest qualifies for funded childcare.

littleegghead · 31/03/2023 15:40

34, DH 40, got our first mortgage last summer just before everything went crazy. Borrowed 180k over 30 years at 3.4%. Hoping to overpay at some point if we don't end up having kids.

PolkaDotMankini · 31/03/2023 15:41

Just over £150k with 25 years left to go. It's fixed at 1.69% until January 2025 so I'm really hoping interest rates go back down by then.

owiz · 31/03/2023 15:49

When we remortgage our out HTB it'll likely be £330,000 with 30 years left, due to be paid off by 68. However, we had our kids young (early 20s) and are high earners now so should be able to throw a lot at it in our 40s to make sure we're mortgage free much before 68....if we can resist the temptation of upsizing again......but have chosen to not prioritise it whilst we have children at home, want to make the most of their childhoods etc.

VariantHela · 31/03/2023 15:55

£138k 21 years left. I'm 33 and just fixed a new deal at 3.89% for 5 years

Christy135 · 31/03/2023 16:04

180k 25 years left.

NorthernWanker · 31/03/2023 16:09

Omg some of these are sooo big it would scare the hell out of me. We're north west though so house prices are nothing compared to London etc, we have a four bed detached and would probably live in a shoe box down south.
