PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

@Shebaduke Oh lord im so sorry you have to wait even longer 😔 well i found out when i rang this morning and checked my next payment amount and was shocked at what it seid i will be getting next pay and by that amount i knew they must of put me up to enhanced. I rang them and they confirmed it and seid a letter has been sent but there is no information on it about back pay only that they may owe me some money and i will get a separate letter for that and they told me i have been awarded until 2027 witch i am also very happy with as the assessor only put for 3 years so im chuffed that i don't have to go through this agin for a while 😌.
I would get onto them as much as you can if i hadn't of rang again yesterday to complain i still wouldn't of had my decision yet .

Shebaduke · 27/04/2023 17:22

@mammaov3 oh thats fab 3 yrs and youl def have back pay lump sum have you checked your bank as ive heard some people dont realise the back pay is in untill they go into their bank on line il keep you up dated
Oh 1 more question if i have no award do i ask for the recobsideration forms straight away x

Sara0 · 27/04/2023 17:33

@mammaov3 !! Ohhhh maaa gooood! Girl I am so happy for u.. ur looking for back apy around 10 grand .. enjoy it.. u need it after all the stress is been causing u!!! I’m so so pleased .. @Shebaduke now we want the same news for you…..

Shebaduke · 27/04/2023 17:40

Hi @mammaov3 ive just been thinking were you receiving standard on both while waiting since sending your review in last year if so youl prob get the difference between standard and enhansed since you sent your review claim in if that makes sense so you should be able to work out the amount of back pay then so if youve been waiting a year (just for argument ) just multiply the differences between the standard and enhansed for eg if the difference between the daily and mobility is about 70 a week combined thats 280 a month x12 would be about £3360
Youve prob done that already 🤣🤣and dont need me to tell you lol x

Shebaduke · 27/04/2023 17:41

Thank you @ sara 0 so nerve racking x

mammaov3 · 27/04/2023 17:59

Hi i was on standard for both and sent my review forms back September 2021 so the difference would be around £77 a week from then so im guessing around 5-6 grand i forgot to say they seid my back pay has been sent to debt management becouse of a small loan i still owe to them what i have been paying back every month but debt management will take it all off my back pay 😅 so now i have to wait until they sort all that out untill i get anything but no one can tell me how much yet .
@Shebaduke yes if you get turned down ask for Mandatory forms asap .

Shebaduke · 27/04/2023 18:16

I've got complex PTSD and suffer vivid flashbacks. Severe anxiety to tye point I always need my husband with me to avoid panic attacks. I also have depression and borderline personality disorder. I scored 15 points on daily living on an online self assessment and 10 on mobility. So I SHOULD be entitled to high rate DL and low mobility. But what's the actual likely hood I'll receive that? The assessor I had was amazing and so understanding and she even made sure I agreed with what she wrote. I'm just so anxious about it all. Anyway.... I was wondering what others were awarded for their mental health? Thanks x

The assessor doesn't make the decision.
Unfortunately!
Whatever they think goes to the decision maker, who may change the assessment completely.
I'm not trying to worry you. But do bear that in mind.
Have you read the whole thread? This question is discussed many times.
I think that the DWP are starting to get better at awarding points to claimants with mental health conditions.

mammaov3 · 28/04/2023 09:55

@Oilytoe90 I have just received my decision yesterday and alot of mine is mental health but also physical two , i know people can get pip for mental health only but i guess it comes down to what you can or can't do in your daily life .
Me personally i don't know anyone who has got it for mental health not to worry you becouse every situation is different but my mam put a claim in for mental health and vascular disease shes had 3 strokes and she got absolutely nothing for it she also has arthritis all over her body and thry turned her down , so all im getting at is every individual situation is different, i also have BPD and PTSD and otyers so theres just no way of knowing , When they have received your report request a copy sent out to you and see what your assessor scored you and hopefully if its good the DM will agree some do some don't my DM agreed with my assessor thankfully.

Oilytoe90 · 28/04/2023 11:28

Thankyou guys. I will have a good scroll through the whole thread. And Di I just call and request a copy of the assessors report?

I definitely got points for poor mental health but had to go to a tribunal to get them.
My initial assessment awarded me zero points. It was nearly a year later that the tribunal overturned the DWP's original decision.
I got lots of back pay then, but it was a horrific experience.

Sara0 · 28/04/2023 12:06

@Oilytoe90 u should get it.. I have severe PTSD and suffer flashbacks after the death of my daughter .. I also have anxiety and severe depression.. I’m physically fine … I got high rate living and standard mobility .. after 5 months of waiting.. it’s a decision I’m happy with.. r u under any mental heath teams??? If so put all of there details down coz they will contact them and get references

Sara0 · 28/04/2023 12:08

@Oilytoe90 And I’m only 30.. the assessor did say to me I’m young but what’s age got to do with mental health ? She pissed me off tbh.. I suffer day in and day out … u should definitely get it if u have proof u r having all this as they want to see proof ..

Sara0 · 28/04/2023 12:09

@Oilytoe90 yes u can request ur report.. I got exactly what my report said it’s mainly the way forward… it’s very rare the DM knocks points down ..

I work in welfare rights and my clients all have MH conditions. I think it's harder to get for MH problems alone, as there isn't the same sort of compelling evidence (eg blood tests, scans, x-rays). Supporting evidence from your MH team is really important, and if there's evidence of admission to hospital, that really helps.

Ime, it's easier with more severe conditions, eg schizophrenia, bi-polar, than for things like depression or personality disorders. Approx half of my applications have to go to appeal, and so far every appeal has been successful.

Fingers crossed you'll get it, and definitely appeal if you don't!
