Thanks for that, I was about to go this afternoon and have a look, its 8 miles away so saved me the trouble.

Tinker · 30/11/2004 12:49

Thank God for that. Wasn't all their furniture vile?

sweetheart · 30/11/2004 12:51

Oh crap - I'm supposed to be getting a refund from tehm on Friday for some utterly crap furniture they sold me - do you think I'll still get it????????????

MrsDoolittle · 30/11/2004 12:51

Been rumbling about it all week.
I have a friend who had her wedding list with The Wedding Register. They have gone into receivership.
She hasn;t got about £1000 worth of presents that were bought for her

LIZS · 30/11/2004 12:51

Surprised they lasted this long.

LIZS · 30/11/2004 12:53

Sweetheart - sorry but I doubt you'll get it straight away unless the transaction has already gone through. You'll join the probably long list of creditors

KangaMummy · 30/11/2004 12:59

working luch

It has just been on BBC2 working lunch and they are going to put details on website later on today.

If you paid by credit card then may be able to claim from them

Kangamummy - looking for you! It's back on the M&S website!!

sweetheart · 30/11/2004 14:09

this is a bloody typical pain in the arse!!! I'm so

The sofa's were brought over a year ago and we have been fighting with them for the last few months trying to get a refund. They finally agreed last week and were supposed to be collecting the sofas on Friday. I can't believe it!!! We went and ordered new ones this weekend!!!!!

KangaMummy · 30/11/2004 19:58

bumpity bump for the evening

We oredered a dining table and chairs from them on 19/10/04. We were told it would take 4 weeks for delivery. After several phone calls, on Sunday they told me it is due in week beginning 13/12/04 and it will def be here by christmas.
Then today we find out there is no table and no £253 deposit to be refunded.

vict17 · 30/11/2004 20:27

It's not surprising - where i live there are 2 Courts and both have been torched!

kid · 30/11/2004 20:38

Is anyone near to the courts in Edmonton (Argon Road)? If anyone can confirm if the store is open tomorrow (a bit of a long shot!) but I'd go down there and stay until I see someone! No luck with phoning them tonight, suprise suprise!

LIZS · 30/11/2004 20:55

I would have thought they'd be shut tomorrow. The Receivers would probably need to do a stocktake and assessment of the outstanding order situation before opening for any sort of liquidation. You'd be better off contacting the receiver when they publicise the number.

kid · 01/12/2004 09:45

I've tried phoning the store without luck and I got the headoffice phone number (0208 670 3322) but there is just a message there giving a helpline number (0870 950 1333) which will be up and running today. They are also updating their website with advice for customers. I guess I'll just have to sit back and wait now.

misdee · 01/12/2004 09:48

i'm so sorry kid. this must be so annoying for you. hope you get somewhere with them soon.

misdee · 01/12/2004 09:49

surprisingly as well, the sofas we have had from them just under 3yrs ago are falling apart. hmmmz, so wheres a good place to buy new ones from?

SantaFio2 · 01/12/2004 09:51

ours went up in flames about a month agao

Easy · 01/12/2004 09:52

From what little I know about insolvency, any of you with outstanding orders can just forget it. You won't be getting your furniture, and you are VERY unlikely to get any deposits back.

Perhaps one of our Lawyers will confirm this, but don't waste too much time, or any more money trying to chase your deposits.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad Tidings

misdee · 01/12/2004 09:53

we took out a stain guard thing with them for the sofas, and after 5yrs we are meant to be able to claim the cash back. dont suppose anything will come of that now will it.

Easy · 01/12/2004 09:54

Our DFS suite is 7 -8 years old, and still looks surprisingly good, despite regular bouncings from a solid 5 year old.

Their sales staff can be a bit daft tho'

Oh oh, any DFS staff on mumsnet?

Easy · 01/12/2004 09:55

Misdee, check the paperwork.
The stainguard insurance may be with a third party.

Kayleigh · 01/12/2004 10:05

Am really sorry to hear this. We had an awful time with Courts over sofas we ordered in January, that were to be delivered mid-march. There was a very long sorry tale but we did eventually get them delivered in June with some compensation.

A company my husband did some work for(self-employed)a few months ago went into receivership owing him payment for 4 months invoices. Apparently we will be lucky if we get back 10-20p in the pound. The company was taken over and is still trading (under a new name). But the new company isn't responsible for the old companies debts. This is what I find scandalous about receiverships.

LIZS · 01/12/2004 12:19

Have a look here . The stores may reopen on Thursday/Friday. Not looking good for those who have paid cash deposits though

kid · 01/12/2004 13:36

well at least I know one way or the other. Will have to see if I can get another table and chairs in time for Christmas now then. Just such a shame that I have wasted £250
I can't believe they can just reopen by Friday without having to fulfil orders, I know its all complicated over who owns what, but where does that leave all the customers that have no goods or money refunded. I for one, will never ever buy from them again, I don't care who will own it!
I will have one last go ant phoning their helpline just to see what they say.
